Attendances

I'm not worried about Covid per se there's more chance of me getting a blow job off Kylie Minogue than it impacting on me.

I don't want to go to a game and have to wear a stupid mask, follow one way systems and have jobsworths watching me like a hawk in the ground.
Well two of those three weren't in place for Burnley, and wearing a mask really wasn't a big deal. Forgot it was there well before kick off.

I think 15k will be good crowds next season ,think Burnley

My view exactly

Hi

Stegosaurus here

Wrong. Norwich -- average home attendance in 2019/20 - 27,000

2020/21 - 0

Check and mate

Wrong again if you're trying to be clever and pedantic

Am average attendance is the number of people at 19 home games in the Premier League divided by 19.

Like all Premier League clubs they only had 14 or 15 home games before lockdown with fans and zero fans at the remaining 4 or 5 home games, thus reducing their average attendance

My points were more about Covid and finances though, so we’ll have to see. It only takes 20% of people to be worried about crowds to knock 6,000 off.
I take your point but hopefully the vast majority will be vaccinated by the time we kick off in August. From a financial point of view then granted, there will be some who will struggle but there will also be those who have saved money during lockdown. The biggest worry from footballs point of view is that some fans will realise they can live without it on a Saturday

Yep totally agree, also the vast majority of vulnerable are vaccinated now so we shouldn't have any sort of restrictions currently IMO

Hi Stegosaurus here,

No. I think I can speak for everyone by saying we aren't interested in seeing Championship football. At least in the prem, there was the chance of seeing some genuinely good players appear at the Lane. In the Championship, we can all get excited at being graced with the likes of Martyn Waghorn.

Dropping to the Championship is like being kicked out of bed by Jessica Alba and having Pauline Quirke as your rebound option.
Hi Sportbilly here,

I wondered what had happened to our favourite friend.

Last time we spoke you were tossing your turkey over videos of Roland Nilsson rubbing himself in baby oil.

Talking of top tossers, how are things on PorkTalk these days?

I love a good bit of pedantry. Might I add that Norwich's avg home attendance in 20/21 season was actually around 300 because they played a few home matches with fans in attendance, including their exceedingly pleasurable 2-1 win over a certain Sheffield club who blew a 1-0 lead late on :)

Marvellous bit of pedantry there BOT

Completely overlooked by me

Obviously got a 300 average due to the massive taking 5000 there on that day and boosting their average for the entire season

No - I think we’ll be considerably short of that. Even with no restrictions, a lot of people will still be wary of crowds. Others will have very tight finances, and some others will have been put off by the performances last season. I suspect that a lot won’t commit to season tickets and will wait to see how it goes (both COVID-19 and SUFC performance). If we do well, we’ll average something like 21 or 22,000. Do badly, and it could be as low as 16 or 17,000.

Anyone want next week’s lottery numbers? I’m going for 4,200; 0; 3.1415927; -6; i and £2.99.

That table is out of date.

We’ve now played 18 home matches.
The attendance against Barnsley was about 28.5K.

Our average is currently 27,503, as shown in the opening post.

There is no longer enough games left for Nottingham to over take us, as their ground currently holds 29K.

We just need to get attendances over 25K (which we will easily) the last few home games for us to top the attendance table.

Also another weird but true star is our average this season will exceed 27.5.

In the last 50 years SWFC have beaten it about 4 times.

It’s great that we’re top of this table I just wonder which teams gross the most per match day based on crowd not other merchandise? I say this because the filth pay quite a lot for their home games down at the Dog and Duck.

Just checked the official stats, it’s shows in the last 52 years SWFC have averaged more than our current 27.5K on a mere THREE occasions.

Their top 3 beat seasons in most peoples living memory has been

29,560 in 1992
28,709 in 1998 and
27,781 in 1885

Everyone of these seasons they were doing well in the top flight with an away end holding 6K. Also the stadium capacity was 49K with a free for all regards ticket sales, so when Liverpool and Man Utd were In town there would be loads of away fans in the home end.

No wonder Wednesday fans get all excited when they get anything around 30K.

We’ve had 29K in our last 3 home matches and no one bats an eyelid because it’s normal. If SW had our support they’d be forever talking attendances on Radio Sheffield.

Another myth: In the past they had rip off pricing but they’ve been substantially lowered for league 1,

So this season their match day prices are quite a bit cheaper than ours. Most of our matches are £31 on the Kop, most of their matches are £25 on the Kop (both non membership prices).

I believe we've got the highest average away following too. To be fair, recently-relegated teams often get this little crowd boost, on the promise of an instant return to the big time...

I suspect next season our crowds will drop to around 23.5k - 25k.

Don't forget quite a few pig fans will be on the Premiership return discount that has been extended for about the last 15 years 🤣

It will not just be us taking a big hit on attendances next season. With the cost of living crisis, fuel costs, gas and electric almost doubling this Friday quite a lot of people will be priced out of attending football. As a pensioner I can't just go and get a better paid job or do some overtime my pension rise has been wiped out with the council tax increase before gas, electric, water rates, TV licence, petrol and food costs get taken into account. Something has to give.

Maybe lower. Cost of living, dislike of the owner, another season away from the Premier League. I'd imagine season ticket sales coukd be down below 15k
