Aston Villa Fans Views On The Restart

Apologies for using this rag and it's mention of the S*n...remember players have had around 1 week of close contact training and nothing else. No ball work with other players before this, just individual sessions. Therefore, you'd ordinarily be looking at around 6 weeks from starting training to getting a season going. here, after a longer than usual lay-off the PL are looking at a 3/4 week turnaround.
are there no fields or training pitches down there where players can run their bollocks off to maintain full match fitness through lock-down? We have them up here.
They should be going into it as fit as ever, and not carrying any knocks.
It seems such a massive co-incidence all the relegation threatened clubs have a million reasons not to want the season to continue...........

there's a massive difference between maintaining personal fitness and full match fitness. being fit is one thing and yes they will have had time to recover from knocks.

Peter w you sound like a reasonable guy and those sort are always welcome on here for me.

I’m not completely dismissing your opinions but generally speaking all the negative noises do seem to be coming from clubs with self interest in not getting relegated. Hope you can agree with us on that one.

As someone else mentioned I can guarantee our lads will be “bang at it” to coin a phrase from our brilliant manager. Anyone who doesn’t hit the ground running in our squad may quickly find that’s they will be staying at home on matchdays.

Just out of curiousity is your user name because of Peter Withe? Fine player for you but well past it by the time he played for us and no amount of sweatband chucking into the terraces at the end of the game managed to endear him to our fans

peter w I have a Villa fan at work. He did say this a little tongue in cheek, but at the start of the season he was talking of European qualification. Obviously it's not gone to plan and he's been quite moody almost every Monday.
Did you honestly think you'd be in a relegation scrap this year?
I'd also like to know... Do you rate Tyrone Mings? My mate does but I think he's terrible.
And finally... Do you fancy your chances on June 17th?... I know Grealish had the header go just wide and missed the pen, but we was in a different league to you that day. Our passing ripped you apart and our first goal was sublime! My fav goal this season!

i think the majority of Villa fans, me included, thought we'd be in a relegation scrap but just have enough to get out of it. I think around 15th was the general position expected. Tyrone Mings has been exceptional for us since he came in. He is prone to the odd lapse in concentration that gets punished and i think he tries to do too much hence maybe looking worse than he is. he is fast, strong, and a communicator. If we had an experienced centre-half next to him he could concentrate on just doing his job and not that of the back four.

As for the 17th, of course I fancy our chances. its like the first game of a new season when anyone can beat anyone. Thing for you is that the break came at a bad time and a good time for us. of course you might beat us and have been the better team the last 3 times that we met. You could stretch that to being the better team when we won with the late Snodgrass winner.

The other thing is that you aren't a surprise now. Everyone knows what you are about - although as said before Villa and Norwich knew all about you over the past couple of seasons - and so teams will be better prepared for it. Doesn't mean you'll be any less successful, though. Its almost impossible to say for certain what will happen but the players know they have 10 games to rescue what they fought hard to get last season. A rested Grealish and a fully fit McGinn will be huge for us. Mings at the back and Samatta up front will also give us a decent spine.

as I said, it doesn't mean that you won't win and you probably will go in as favourites despite the long lay-off, and for a good reason. It will be difficult but I'd rather play you now than when the league was stopped because we were in freefall and looked shot.

I see Tyrone Ming's is the latest villa player to come out sounding like he is not exactly chomping at the bit to come back ,I'd say villa are all but down with their attitude but the other teams around the relegation zone seem just as negative about playing football again

I would be very worried if this was one of our players. Doesn't sound too motivated does he.

Players are commodities, so what, they're employees, they shouldn't have that much power really, that's how it works.

I don't remember the CEO of Dixons Retail asking me for my opinions on the business when I worked for Knowhow.

This isolation has done strange things to my mind. I thought I read that Villa fans reckon that playing us is their Cup Final. That can't be right...
It’s not tho, it won’t be anything like a Cup Final. Even the Cup Final Wong be like a Cup Final. But if it gets the season* finished in good order then let’s crack on.

It was always a TV game for the Premier League anyway.

Doesn’t McGinn have asthma and won’t be playing?

Granted that’s something I’ve heard from my Baggies supporting colleagues and has to be taken with a pound of salt.

He’s lucky that he’s considered to be such a valuable commodity to his employer that they’re willing to wrap him up in cotton wool and test him twice a week to keep him healthy - even our doctors and nurses haven’t been afforded that luxury, not to mention the careers, shop workers, delivery workers etc

What a bell end. He'll perhaps get a job at Amazon, or asda stacking shelves, then he'll know what being at fhe bottom of the pecking order is.

I worked for Amazon and Tesco, I’d guard against being such a snob as you. Perhaps you can tell us whether he had regular jobs or not before becoming a footballing “bell end”?

Tyrone just reported for training

Quite alarming how many comments I've seen from PL fans and players suggesting players won't have been keeping that fit during lockdown, or that they've heard Wilder has been making sure our players have as though that's something above and beyond.

Any player coming back noticeably unfit after this without having had injury or illness, or family reasons, should face disciplinary.

Fuck me. Even myself at nearly 47, with a school age son, and doing 7 hours working from home has managed to work out each day for a hour or more.

I hope they all come back unfit. We all know our lads are different class when it comes to fitness and discipline.

From Norwoods BBC interview - UTD are ready, sod the rest they are just pushing excuses !

There are concerns about players' fitness ahead of such an intensive programme and whether they will be more injury prone after their hiatus, but Norwood says he and his team-mates are in good shape.
"We have done all the running that we would do pre-season, albeit away from the training ground," Norwood said in an interview with BBC Radio 5 live's The Friday Football Social.
"We have done a test that we do first day back of pre-season, and everyone has bettered their times, so we are obviously doing something right.
"We are fit - it is just a case now of getting out there in these next couple of weeks. We will be playing 11 v 11 [in training] and building up to game mode

To be fair to him he joined the professional game late, he was a barman before becoming a pro football and lived in a homeless shelter as a kid.

Fair do's to him , I didn't know, but you'd think he'd be a bit more switched on then.

First there was Sheffield United, now there is Mega Sheffield United and I suspect Bash will be going to the Olympics.

Team GB should pick him for the football squad, and then if there are injuries he can cover the 10,000m and the marathon.

He can also be a replacement train service if the Shinkansen breaks down.

Compare Norwood and Mings recent comments to the media re. the restart and you can tell which team is focussed, driven and raring to go, and which team would rather the season ended and they could stay up on ppg without having to play another minute.

To quote an oft heard phrase from Sunday league football...

“They don’t want it boys!!”

Thing is, Villa would go down on PPG.

Didn’t realise that.

Aye, which makes the comments coming out even more strange.

I guess they were going for null and void rather than PPG, but you'd think they'd shut up a bit when they realised that wasn't on the table.

I'd be worried if our players had the attitude theirs did. Obviously wouldn't mind them voicing concerns but whining constantly trying to get the league abandoned, do me a lemon.

We could obviously lose on the 17th, but I feel a lot more confident about the rest of the season when I hear and see what's coming out of our club.
