Surely striker is bottom of the list of priorities this summer

Who’s coming up with these names like Fletcher and now Sanderson when we don’t have a permanent manager in place?

I don’t think PH will be trying to sign them so who is?

Maybe its that sinister bloke who's always lurking, whispering in the background, face covered in a unnatural shadow, all you can see is the glow of his cigar...

Jan Van Winkle

Strikers not required, and nobody will be beating the door down for the ones we've paid out on.. We have 5 that are either too old, or not prolific in the top division..

Were set up for the championship fine up front..

We have a transfer committee and the scouting department is still in place so I’d imagine scouting reports on players will be waiting for whoever steps into the role. Also there have been hints from people like hecky that the next manager is watching make of that what you will.

Yeah I don’t get that?
So here the board are taking their time looking at interested parties and having apparently asked for CW’s opinion and we’ve brought in both PH and JT until the end of the season and yet the new manager is sat watching. Doesn’t make sense does it?

Ashley Fletcher sticks in my mind from that fly on the wall ‘Sunderland til I die’ documentary, he didn’t strike me as someone I’d ever want to see in a Blades shirt

It would only make sense if there’s a reason that the new man can’t take his post immediately. The whole asking wilders opinion thing I’m taking with a pinch of salt as it would be very odd. It would be like breaking up with your girlfriend then asking if she has a sister and her going yeah here’s her number 😂

It’s a no from me. And I agree that with no manager in place someone is trying to drum up some interest. Fletcher hasn’t done anything of note up to date and I wouldn’t think he would be good enough anyway.

Thought we had 6? Let's face it there's no reason why any of the 6 couldn't hit double figures in the championship.

On the ‘new manager is watching’ it’s a metaphor, Hecky was just saying whoever is taking over will be watching, as in anybody that is interested in the job. I don’t think anyone has been given the job at this stage.

This is also what I think.

They may be right of course, but I think some people have taken Hecky's comment too literally.

Managed by Hecky for the Dingles when they got promoted. Story has legs.

A bit like Rodwell 😂

A bit like Rodwell 😂
I knew someone would say that, but no, not like Rodwell at all.

Rodwells only ‘crime’ was refusing to prematurely cancel the generous contract he’d been given by the club, in order to ease the financial shortcomings brought about by their own mismanagement.

Fletcher couldn’t wait to abandon the sinking ship, having applied a minimum of effort into saving it.

I’d have been happy if we’d have not bothered with Rodwell.

I agree regarding Rodwell, not his fault.

Fletcher was on loan until the end of that season. He seemed to try hard enough but was not composed in front of goals.
If you want to pick one or two out as symbolizing the failure of Sunderland then Lewis Grabban and Jack Roswell are them. Grabban while scoring on the pitch and playing fairly well did not like being taken off and asked for loan to be cut short. As for Rodwell it's not about his pay it's about his desire to play or lack of it. Kit Symons is quoted as saying they thought he had real class when they saw him training. Only problem is he doesn't show any desire to get himself in the team. Still the same after how many seasons. Waste of time and money with that attitude. If you couldn't get a game this season what does that tell you about him.

Thanks, having read that, its jogged my memory and it’s not inconceivable that I’m getting him confused with Lewis Grabban actually.

Apologies Ashley, it seems I’ve done you a disservice, all the same, I still don't want you at Bramall Lane, we‘re already over subscribed with strikers lacking composure in front of goal 😉

Agreed it's a bit of flair we need in the middle of the park. The only way I see a striker come in is if Mousset and McBurnie go. Then it's getting the right foil to work with Brewster. Will Billy and Didsy as back up.
