I'll not copy and paste the whole thing because I think the author deserves people to visit his site...

Sheffield United are arguably the club with the most upward momentum in the entire country at the moment. After a wobbly start last season, they eventually steamrollered through League One, finishing as champions with l00 points on the board. They now sit 3rd in the Championship continuing to pick up points at the same rate as they did in League One – kind of absurd when you think about it – and Chris Wilder, the manager, and Alan Knill, Wilder’s assistant, are rightly getting plenty of plaudits for this period of success as the Blades look fearless in their bid to complete their ascendancy back into the Premier League.

Absolutely brilliant insight, can't believe I've watched most of these games & had no idea just how intricate our set piece routines are.
I always knew Knill liked to come up with a few clever plays, but it's amazing to see them properly broken down & analysed.

The O'Connell one at QPR especially, watching it at the time you simply assume he's lost his marker. Everyone's busy watching the ball while Leon is giving their CB a friendly hug :)

Now if someone could kindly remove this page before another team sees it...

As you say it does need removing. I'm sure all teams have access to all sorts of analytical data, but this just seems to be putting it on a plate for them. Let the feckers find it themselves.;)

Brilliant article, who knew we were good at corners. I’ve always thought far post corners are more dangerous than near post if you get your runs right.

Let’s hope we continue to invent and convert before the opposition works it all out.

Before I read it (and I will) I hope it explains why we have 30 different free kicks in our repertoire, but only two type of corners? Short or back stick to JOC.

One of the best bits of football analysis I think I’ve ever read (of course it helps that it’s about us!). Safe to say O’Connell is “due”.

I’ll even forgive the author for spelling it Brammall :)

His anytime scorer price will get slashed now. Currently 12/1 at Hills to score v Blues on Saturday - that won't last.

reckon other teams will be shitting their pants

Not questioning you, but how many times have we scored from a corner this season?

I'm struggling.

I can’t recall many off the top of my head, but as the article shows we have created (and missed) some very clear-cut chances from corners. Looking back O’Connell should have had at least three goals by now, he’s got completely free in and around the six yard box and somehow not found the net.

Totally agree, but it just set me thinking how many, and i cant think of any?

Mind you, my memory is totally screwed. :)

Fascinating article, thanks for posting.

And that free kick v Leeds was definitely premeditated - from memory, it seemed pretty much a carbon copy of the one Billy scored from at Bradford last season.

another interesting stat regarding corners, which i suggest is due to our front foot style, we are 3rd in the amount of corners won this season, but 1st in the amount conceded, conceding 10 less than any other side

We've had so many good chances from corners that we haven't converted this season!

It's an excellent article, and it's been blatantly obvious how much we've improved in these situations over the last two seasons. We always look dangerous. It's a shame the person who wrote it didn't find the video of the Fleck/Sharp free kick against Bradford City last season too :)

Yep, it was Bradford. We've tried it a few more times aswell.

Well, it is only 2 but they were both winners.

Billy v Brentford, albeit it went out to Leon to cross but it is all one move.

Carter-Vickers v Bolton.

We have had joy from free kicks in a wide area as well.

What pleases me is we have finally moved away from the obsession with corners to the near post which never beat the first man which was a feature of previous managers.

Also from the analysis, we could easily have had more. Jack is due one, he got a few last year as did Ebanks-Landell. We look much more threatening from corners these days.

What I like about our free kicks is you never know what is going to happen, I'm sure we have more routines than the few highlighted in the article the one against the pigs was a superbly worked free kick giving Fleck most of the goal to aim for and by-passing the wall.

I think I've learned something from that excellent piece and that's the way corners are taken and the corner taker in particular. I've always wondered what signal they were sending when raising their arm. I always assumed it was left arm for one instruction and right for another, indicating 2 types of corner, front or near post maybe. From what I can gather from that though, the left arm/right arm signal is insignificant, it's the dropping of the arm that tells those in the middle to set off on their runs. Simple. But I hadn't worked it out in watching 40 years of football, thick twat that I am!

O Connell has been wasteful in front of goal and it's one aspect of his game he needs to Improve
He could be in double figures this season

Love this. Great article. My favourite is the 'quick freekick' that looks improvised. Billy's scored one of these last season and should've scored against Leeds.
