Hi,Just thought id let you guys know the great work united do for the armed forces. There is a website called tickets for troops. If you are a member of the armed forces you can get free tickets to different types of events. Sheffield United home games are on every week. So i just wanted to say well done to the club for the support and it is much appreciated by myself and all blades serving in the armed forces. Well done blades.

I'll have to pass this on to a mate of mine. He's over in Afghanistan at the moment, but will be back in a week or so!

Yep, I'd like to echo the sentiments aired here. As a serving member of our armed forces I have used T4T in the past to visit the lane (and various other events) and its great gesture from all involved which certainly makes me and I'm sure others feel valued and that we have the support of people around us.

My lads a Junior Soldier, would this qualify him (he's currently buying his tickets to matches that he can get to)?

I'm not sure if he would be able to because you have to show your ID card when you collect the tickets and you don't get your MOD 90 9(army id card) whilst in basic training. Well you didn't when i was anyway. Mite be worth checking with him in case he has been given his id card. I was a junior soldier when i joined up. Does he go to Harrogate AFC

Disappointingly in Sheffield the military ID card doesn't seem to stand for much ,my lad Charlie has been refused entry to many places up West Street and has to revert to his driving license ,he hasn't had this problem in any other city. Also he has never been offered military discount and is not the type to ask for it ,yet in Scotland especially they go out of their way to offer it.

Don't blame the bar staff. They're only have a legitimate defence if the customer has presented certain types of ID. Military cards aren't on the list.

Yes i tend not to take mine out with me. Alot of places turn their noises up to letting military in! I suppose its the few that let us down causing trouble. And alot of places offer student discount but no military discount.

He was refused entry to Soyo the other week despite being with 5 students ,so none of them went in. Bit sad when a tax dodger has more sway than a soldier ;)

I assume he knows to flash it at places like KFC? My lad gets a free something everytime he goes and he's only ATC.

Hi Pompey,

After checking with him, it seems he HAS the ID Card you mention (the one that's on credit card type format that slips inside the hard plastic case?)...

If so, then he'd have been able to get into Stevenage for free, but it was thankfully only a fiver. But it'll serve him well for next season as long as the Club are still offering the tickets.

And yes, he's at Harrogate at the mo, passing out in August and then to Catterick. Were you at Harrogate, and if so, how long ago was that if you don't mind me asking?

All the best buddy and thanks again for the info.

Craig

Can vouch for that sitwell; in Bradford & Leeds they're fine...as soon as we hit Sheffield, they look at him as if he's just landed from Mars!?!?

Thats a result then. Hell be able to get you a free ticket to!! Just tell him to check out tickets for troops then, you can get all sorts from there. I went to Harrogate from September 2007 till August 2008!

Best of luck to your lad for the rest of his training.

Joe

Is it only army that can get use that?
My brother has been in the RAF for 35 years or so - he has not served in Iraq or Afgan but was over in the Falklands. Would he qualify? He doesn't get to as many games as he would like.

Cheers Joe,

Yes, he's had a gander at the 'Tickets for Troops' site and noted our S6 neighbours were conspicuous by their absence

Interesting that you went to Harrogate too - only three years behind him! Anyway, I reckon he'll deffo get some use out of it, but it looks like me/bairns will be getting ST's for next season.

All the best to you too mate, and battle on!

AFAIK as long as your brother has the MOD 90 'ID card', then yes, he should qualify. My lad was looking at the site yesterday and it stated that even if you're no longer serving (due to injury for example) you can still apply for stuff...

Hope that helps mate?

Yes if hes still serving he will be able to use it. I think if your ex service personnel you can only use it if you have been discharged through injury since 2001.
