Are we still bottle jobs?

Over the years, a lot of pigs and other Yorkshire rivals have labelled us (with a certain degree of accuracy) as bottle jobs. Alot of which I brushed off my shoulders.

Due to various play off final failures (amongst other cup semi final losses) I was beginning to believe the same, but have the two excellent promotion seasons in 3 years (especially the second half of this season when loads wrote us off) reversed that? Can any of our nearest and dearest call us bottle jobs anymore?

For me, we are now clear of that label.

In two seasons we've now shaken off boxing day 79, killed the bounce, killed the gap and killed the bottlejobbers!

The other thing is, in the context of our cup record in particular, the other clubs on their high horses have not even remotely achieved a similar number of semi-finals from the lower divisions to even be in a position to then "bottle" it. I think we have always (since 2000 for sure) been the most exciting club in Yorkshire, but our atrocious play-off record has lumped in our great cup record in with the "bottler" label.

Well before Wilder we did bottle it quite a few times.

Once we've beaten The Pigs by four clear goals, then that'll be the day when we have exorcised that particular ghost.

Not as much as Leeds are, hence the song! I've noticed, on twitter anyway, that many Leeds fans have condemned our players for singing Leeds are falling apart again, which was only sung occasionally but can't they take any banter!? Similar with Wednesday fans and apparently the players are classless for singing mind the gap! Again, for me, it's just the players celebrating with the fans and embracing the rivalry with Wednesday, that's how I see it anyway.

Complaining about "Mind the Gap" and "Leeds are falling apart" being sung by the players is weak and petulant. Full stop. To us, it also is very funny. Because it shows their Danny Bakeresque lack of self-awareness. :D

We are bottlejobs when it comes to the playoffs, we can't deny that. And I can't recall us staying up when we have been in relegation contention in the final weeks. But when was the last time that we threw away an automatic promotion spot when we were in contention in the final few weeks?

The pigs are now the bottlejobs. Bottled playing us in the cup quarter final (loss to Charlton) then two consecutive play off failures including Rhodes bottling taking his penalty. Then bouncing day.

SILVERWARE my son!

If I was Chris I'd be targeting that as an objective...

In the play offs yes but we don't need the play offs anymore.

Yes.

Sorry mate, but that’s rubbish, it’s gone now....

No. No. No....
Not in my name it isn't!
We came close when we were 3-0 up at half time, ended up winning 3-2 but it felt like a defeat!!
Four clear goals, then i'll be happy.
Unless dementia strikes and I don't know who I am, never mind know the football history.

Agree with that. I was at The Sty on Boxing day and have put up with all their comments for years. It was a bad day at the office. But I really feel this has now been avenged and it’s now just history.
It was a lower division too that Boxing Day and now the bouncing day massacre with a 4-2 AWAY win in a higher division has more than nullified it

Any thoughts of cup runs have been pushed to the back of the queue for the last few years. I was a tad disappointed to be honest because I’ve always been a big fan of the FACup. Obviously, it’s worked out for the best and now Premiership survival is paramount.
But, with Wilder and Knill having a large squad next year of “better” players, I think we may see a bit more attention payed to the cups.
It’s going to be great when Wilder decides to turn the big guns on a cup run. Can’t wait!

Putting four past them in their own backyard, something they have never done, puts Boxing Day to bed for me. I hope we never get the chance to put four past them again. I hope we thrive and they wither and die.....

The wankers.

I trust you always reminded them of our 7-3 win in 1951. Only 28 years before that Boxing Day, which is now nearly 40 years ago. Not just history, it’s ancient history.

Nothing bottles the play offs more than making sure you aren't in them. Disgraced again.

My dad went to that game but rarely mentioned it. He and my mum followed the Blades throughout the 50’s home and away, well until me and my brother came on the scene. He said he regularly travelled to away matches on the train, and being regular faces they were invited to travel back with the team. At 85 he’s only just gave up his season ticket for the next year. We were looking back through the history books and we worked out he has seen every manager United have had bar 2, Joseph Wostinholm and John Nicholson. Wow.

If nothing else this season has shown other teams do feck up . We are not the only team that can implode. Leeds losing 8 in 2019 run in derby and Boro trying their best to blow it
