The David Parkhouse situation got me thinking, it's quite rare for us to play any of the young academy lads, and with Parkhouse turning down a new deal, are we pushing our home grown talent out to other clubs??
Brooks was really the last to break through the academy, and he suprised us all!
Calvert-lewin came through and wasn't good enough for us, but he's an established prem striker now.
Arron Ramsdale, now first choice at Bournemouth, didn't get a chance with us.
It makes you wonder, after seeing how many young lads are coming straight into the game now, we seem to be more reliant on the usual faces at the moment, and yes they're doing a job, but why not stick Parkhouse on the bench and give him a couple of 10min cameos??
Just wondered if he could turn out to be the missing bit up top?

Did Brooks actually break through?
30 appearances but how many starts, the next season would have been interesting to see if he actually nailed down a starting position.

Who would you put Parkhouse on the bench instead of?

Well he was playing for the academy, and got a chance in the cup first, then the first team, so yes.

Because millions of pounds could hinge on the smallest margins.

Send him out on loan and give him a bench spot when he’s earned it.
THIS is what I mean, who's to say he hasn't??
If Celtic believe he's good enough, why don't united??

Wilder and Knill say so. And what Celtic might or might not do with Parkhouse should they sign him is speculation.

I’d love another Brooks to emerge, but I predict whoever is next to make the first team will be blooded with a Championship loan season first.

Probably because Celtic are not on the same level and have the league wrapped up every year. It's all relative.

It’s an interesting one with our academy. We were League 1 not long ago and the academy would have been focused on developing L1 capable players. Then we were Championship focused, then suddenly Prem. Has our academy quality been able to advance at the same pace as the first team or do we still have a lot of lads of L1/Champ academy quality?

Not in the prem. The youngsters need to be loaned out to get first team experience. When they can consistently get a game at championship level, then consider bringing them in

The academy should be pushing Prem class ability all the time, otherwise whats the point of it?

It raises revenue by producing non-premier players too. We might see a wedge from Ben Whiteman in the next window.

Ramsdale, brooks and DCL would be if we didn't sell them or they wanted to go. Three in one squad is pretty good. Its not easy breaking into a successful squad as a youth player.
And look how that turned out
2 promotions in 3 seasons to fund , new players to push us on
It’s a football team , not an American football team where you can have 50 players
If a players good enough , then I’m sure Chris will play him
Our only aim this season is to stay up

I wouldn’t agree that he made it to a first team regular so that probably tells you where we are in regards to looking at bringing youth through from the academy. I don’t think it’s close to being a priority for Wilder as he cant trust them to do a job for him without undue risk of mistakes. Who knows, as we improve the quality of the other first teamers maybe he’ll change his approach, but currently he can bring in players who are more ready made for what he needs.

We don’t have a top tier academy.

Ramsdale and DCL weren’t good enough to get into the first team at the time they were sold, and united weren’t in a position where we could afford to have millions just sat in the youth team. Where as Bournmouth and Everton could afford to have them sitting in the youth team until they were ready

Maybe, but isn't it a shame were not in a position at the moment, to have these lads here.

We don't, agreed, but that's what we should be aiming for.
Maguire, Walker, Ramsdale, Brooks, Calvert-lewin, that's a decent 5-a-side start isn't it....

This again is a point, but, unless they get a chance, we will never know if they're ready or not will we.
