Are we "getting there" ?

I think that's a bit harsh, I can see where Darren is coming from we have a 30,000+ all seater stadium which is well over half full nearly every home game in the league playing a side that struggles to get 3000 and when we travel over there we will take more away fans then there is home and we are scrapping a 1-0 win. Only a few years ago we thumped them 3-0 at home and 5-2 away I think that shows how far we have fallen. Results and performances like today strangely enough worries me about what the future holds.

I think we may well have beaten them more comfortably with Lowton, McDonald, Evans, Williamson and Squinny in the team. We had a Chumpionship team that season playing in League 1 (despite what they showed the season before). How many of the current squad would have replaced those 5 ?

Exactly it shows have far we have fallen and we are supposed to have money now.

I think we are getting there in some aspects but its still a work in progress. The defence has tightened up and we don't look like conceding many but the forward play needs work. I think its fairly obvious we need a goal scorer still because we don't look like scoring many. I thought Clough on Saturday was a bit guilty of trying to crowbar into the team what he considers his best players to the detriment to the shape of the side. Murphy is not a loan striker. He is perhaps ok to play there for the last 20 mins when the defence is tired but he gets completely out muscled from the start and becomes anonymous. JCR has been our best outfield player in the last two matches but its no use him beating men and getting crosses in if their is nobody in the box.

Are we getting there LOL, we are not even getting close. I have read through the threads since Saturday and to be honest some of the claims that we can win 30 of our games 1-0 are laughable nonsense and clutching at straws in the defence of a team that will on performances so far struggle to even make the play offs. Not a ghost of achance we will be anywhere near the top two with the present incumbents for players and now Nigel as changed his mind apparently and is happy with what he has got WTF ? ................either he is now saying what the boardroom tell him to say or he hasn't got a clue.

This is the Clough dilemma, we are not conceding because the team as a whole has tightened up and become more defensive i.e the re-introduction of Doyle alongside Basham for example but this is always going to be at a cost to the attacking play.

Clough's teams rarely bombard the opposition and create 20 plus chances in a game so it relies on moments of magic which have been few are far between this season, mainly due to key players not performing, Jose apart. I'm not convinced that throwing a superstar striker into the mix would guarantee a change but it would certainly help to have a figurehead / talisman up there.

As Weir was unlucky to lose McDonald last season, Wallace was probably key to his plans and has been a loss thus far. We seem to be hard to beat again and that will make us top 6 but as everyone has been saying, it's the difference to push that one step further that we're lacking at the moment.

and that team failed to get promoted!

I do think other teams come to BDTBL thinking these are favourites and raise their game, just as we will at such as MKD. Although I think we are classed as favourites on last season's performances and those who decide failing to realise we have lost 3-4 of our best players

I'm still holding on to my life saving trust in NC, after the series of bloody useless incompetent incumbents before him, however, having heard his latest interview with Radio Pig, in which he says he's changed his mind and will go with what we've got ....... well I'm really hoping hes said that as a moral booster for our ineffective strikers, rather than actual fact.

If we go with what we've got upfront until Xmas, I would expect us to be bang average mid table, with hopes of automatic promotion another brief but faded dream.
