Are some posters on here supporting the wrong club?

I understand where you are coming from about passion. I too have an experience from the stands to relate that has coloured my judgement. I sit with my 11 year old grandson and going to the match with him is one of the highlights of my life. I sit in front of 2 or 3 "Unitedites" who, every match, seem to do nothing but whinge at United's shortcomings and hurl abuse at the players, board and whatever attracts their wrath on the day. This behaviour certainly diminishes our enjoyment of the games. These are the type of people who I could do without supporting my team. I do not think they are demonstrating passion, merely using match days to vent their spleen

There are these types of fans all over the ground I am afraid. Me and my boy now sit all over the place (except John Street - another story and it still rankles me that we are a family!) and there are whingers everywhere. I am sure they are 100% Blades, but they show it in different ways.

It may be, and I am in danger of being crucified here - down to a lack of intelligence from some of our fans and a lack of debating qualities or the ability to see two sides of an argument - what we all see (at this level) sometimes, is over paid, indulged, footballers not being able to do the basics - probably the basics that some of them think they can do better at. I could name, but won't, a few down at BDTBL that I don't really rate or want at the club, but we have to trust NC and his staff that on the whole, they have got it right.

It is a crying shame we are in the 3rd tier - we are a big club, in a crap division and teams like our opponents today (Rochdale) are going to come here, try harder, run faster in an attempt to put one over on a big club. If we had NC in the 2nd tier we would not have those problems and I am sure things (or the whinging) would hopefully be less.

As for where you sit - simple answer - consider moving? We did this in John Street, but after one move ended up with probably the most whinging person I have ever come across! Nearly came to blows because of it one day, which did not please me one iota and decided to move yet again. The ver riding though is always "We're all Blades aren't we".

Some people just show it in a multitude of ways.

The point that I was making was that they could always go elsewhere to another club who were capable of meeting their expectations. They may find that the grass is not always greener there either.

And supporters of a team simply can't 'up sticks' and support another club, as well you know.

Maybe not, Rodley. We're seeing rabid, bullying jocks every day and it's equated to 'passion' (ditto Orangemen in Ireland). I think the media will find a different word to describe the EDL in Rotherham today.

Post of the day for me.

Genuine fear of something, manifests itself in different ways in different people.

The problem is, too many people no have too many opinions for anything to be definitively decided these days - hence the lack of anything happening.

Where is the old fashioned theme of wisdom? I will answer my own question..........political correctness.

"Moaning" is one thing, but only in S2 is hurling obscene abuse at our own players thought remotely justifiable.

It baffles us all and I would love to see us win something eventually as well but size of the club doesn't translate to winning trophies does it? Newcastle haven't won anything since the 1960's but Portsmouth won the FA Cup only a few years ago.

Some of the clubs you mention there will have probably won those trophies through a mixture of luck, circumstances and showing some bottle on the day. It's never fallen right for us when the opportunity presented itself and also most of those winners did it when money wasn't as much if a factor. Looking forward it will be.

Newcastle won the Fairs Cup in 1969 but it was a two-legged event.

I don't think whining about some of the disappointing things that have happened at the lane is "down to a lack of intelligence from some of our fans and a lack of debating qualities or the ability to see two sides of an argument". You can be clever, erudite and dialetic (apparently so google says?!) but still be pee'd off at the failure to bring in a goal scorer etc.
