But you’ve not heard anything of them reneging on the deal, you’re just assuming they are doing.

We did buy him but he also had to agree and sign a future contract with Villa before coming which would be activated if the buy back clause was triggered which it automatically was upon relegation.

It sounds like what’s happened is the most obvious situation. We agreed a fee for Archer and paid the first instalment on that fee. Villa have triggered the buy back for a value which amounts to the value of the instalments which are still owed so essentially those future instalments are just cancelled and no money changes hands.

Any realistic hopes of staying up were already dashed once we'd sold Ndiaye. This was just throwing good money after bad.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, watching him at Boro the year before we were all happy with the deal at the time & didnt ruin the club financially like the Brewster & McBurnie did.
