Slim i agree re Hamer, it's unfathomable why he continues to be played out wide with our lack of creativity in the centre. However that's what got us to the top of the table and CW knows a he'll of a lot more than we do !
Think the sheer quality of individuals has got us there, paired with CW’s man management.

But when we’ve been tasked with playing the better sides in the division we’ve been caught lacking. That’s where CW has fell down, and putting Hamer in the middle and getting him more influence in games should have been the order of the day in most of them.

I like Peck, has plenty of qualities, but Oli is different gravy.

Oli's special skill is receiving the ball facing his own goal and there can be players closing in on him.
Then in one move he'll spin 180 degrees and run into space towards the opposition goal.
He caught opposition midfielders out a few times doing this in early season, quickly turning defence into attack.
I noticed Kobi Manu perform the same skill a few times when playing for England in the World Cup.

Arblaster's other ability is calmness and spacial awareness, it's like he has eyes at the back of his head (again quite similar to Manu).
Makes the game look easy because he plays so many simple balls, but like an old pro, he seems to regularly make the right decision.

I've often said football is a simple game, players with outrageous skill and talents give you the eye candy but they can be over rated.
Often thought the best players make the game look so easy, they have football intelligence meaning they so often make the correct decision.

We are missing him so fucking much.
Our style of play, and control of the midfield has just fell off a cliff since he got injured.

I'm going to get my tin hat out when I say this, but he seems to be getting much better the longer out of the team he spends. The last few games before his injury he wasn't great, and the Leeds Away game especially was probably the worse game he's had.

He's a young player, and like Peck, will have good/bad/indifferent games. Just seems to be there's a section of our fan base who are only remembering the good ones...

Vini and Tom Davies is our strongest midfield pairing, and we're only days away from seeing that, so being positive for a moment, I'm excited at the prospect of seeing that flourish!!

When he's good he's brilliant. He's a young lad who will have poor games, the Leeds game was horrific and when paired with Peck at Boro he got overrun.

But he had many more good games than bad. We struggled with Peck coming in initially to create anything, we scored 1 goal from open play in 4 games. Blaster back in we beat Luton comfortably and if not for Moore we'd have scored a hat full. It's not a coincidence.

For my money Tom Davies is flattering to deceive, and if both Blaster and him were fit right now I'd pick Oli most times. Davies was shocking against WBA.
I do like him, but think he's being overrated just a smidge at the minute.

absolutely spot on im certain if hamer had been played in centre midfield we would be clear at the top hopefully ben brereton comes in and we can switch him inside for the reamainder of the season dont care what anybody on here says hes been totally wasted stuck out on the left

Some of the negative comments based on preseason are bizarre to me.

Arblaster is a really lovely footballer to watch. It's clear that he's going further than the Championship.

He has a lovely balance to him, two great feet, can get stuck in, likes to go forward, and the way he passes the ball along the deck has the hallmarks of an elite midfielder.
He generates a certain zip and spin that weights the pass perfectly for the oncoming receiver.

He'll probably be a bit inconsistent. He's still a kid.
As I've said re: the other academy lads, I wouldn't want us to rely too heavily on him all season. We need an alternative to properly compete (and that can't be Tom Davies or Sydie Peck for different, but obvious reasons).

I thought he was the best player on the park in the first half, Souza is a great partner for him.
Really looking forward to seeing how he develops this season.
If he can learn to time his runs into the penalty area when our wingers get to the byline then he'll be amongst the goals this season.

Interesting reading back on my old comments.

Arblaster out for the season. Souza will probably have missed 1/3 of our games by the time he returns and Peck and Davies are playing every single week.

It's such a huge shame.
Souza & Arblaster anchored each other well in that central midfield. I think we'd still be top with those two fit.. and I dare say Souttar is an even bigger loss.

100%

I don’t see how people jump on Peck who imo has been better than Davies while at the same time giving Davies a bye. He has looked lively in sub cameos but when starting he has not done it for me. Constant little 5-10 yard passes sideways and backwards without creating much going forward and for someone with his pedigree and experience he really has not influenced the games at all which is a disappointment. He is obviously a good player but he really needs to take the games by the scruff of the neck in the centre of the park which he has not done yet.

Hamer's got a habit of giving the ball away in dangerous positions when he plays in the center - we saw that when he dropped in there last night.

What Peck is going through with us this season is the same thing Arblaster went through with Port Vale last season.

It's not just a step up in class from the U23's but also a step up in the amount of games you play in a shorter period of time.

I don't know a lot about our U23's matches but it seems to me that you would play 1 game every 1 to 2 weeks, compared to the Championship where you play Saturday-Tuesday most weeks.

Arblaster was first team ready after his loan at Port Vale because he'd gotten used to the amount of games required of senior players while he was there.

Peck is playing 90 minutes in nearly every game at the moment, and you can see why he looks tired at times as he's still getting used to playing so many games, he's a 20 year old kid in his first proper season of consistent English football.

If he carries on the way he is doing right now, he'll be a much better player come the end of the season than he was at the start of the season.

Yet I dare say that if someone else was making safe, boring passes in the same spot, half the people here would be berating that as well

Direct correlation between him getting injured and our performances falling off a cliff.

Results continued, clean sheets continued too because we had that man mountain at the back and a very confident keeper, but the football which wasn't quite there but starting to look really promising died a death when Arblaster got injured.
People confuse our football 'style' dying when Souttar got injured, that's not true. The football was getting terrible before then, but we were still keeping clean sheets and winning.

We miss his ability to turn with the ball, collect off the defenders and DRIVE forward, he'd pull defenders out to close him down because they knew he would take a shot which opened up space.

He had a handful of bad performances, Leeds away being one, but overall what a season he was having. And boy is he missed.
Huge future ahead of him.

Wasn't there a rumour on here about him being back just before the end of the season?

It's likely he will be back on the grass before the end of the season but probably not wise to risk him even if its for the last couple of matches.

An Arblaster - Peck partnership is the main thing to look forward to about next season
Yeah completely agree. Have said it on another thread - these two look like they’ll complement each other so well.

Blaster’s ability to play on the half turn and drive forward or play a pass through the thirds is extraordinary for someone his age. His awareness of what’s around him is well beyond his years. He would have 100% gone to the Prem this summer if not for his injury.

Peck has been the bigger (pleasant) surprise for me. He always looked like a hard worker who likes a tackle but he’s come on leaps and bounds.

If we don’t go up, I’d be totally fine with cashing in on Souza and using that money elsewhere (Center halves please!) with these two starting.

Add in Seriki plus maybe two of One, Marsh and Brooks and we’ve got the makings of half a good champ side from our academy. Would love to watch that team going for it next year.

Yep, if not promoted I'd sell Souza (and Anel) without hesitation. Arblaster and Peck needs to be the aim, and they'll be the key factor to making us a much more watchable team

Seriki could also be a regular if he stays fit, and Oné could claim the number 9 shirt

Cooper will probably stay, and we could hopefully sign Dunne and Darling on frees for CB

There's clear possibility of a very decent team, even if Hamer also has to be sold

Injury prone get shut shut just like Brewster ;)

Back on the fucking grass what the fuck does that mean another stupid Wilderism that has no real meaning nor context.

I think Hamer is a better player than him, but Arblaster had the biggest impact on the team. He has been sorely missed in defensive midfield, he was the perfect partner to Vini.

I'm not sure what he'll look like after his injury, but this lad is special. He has a certain poise very few players at his age have, and I could see him having a great future.

We've not played well often.
We've been industrious and efficient.

However, the games I remember thinking the performance was decent were...

  • PNE away
  • Hull away
  • Luton home
  • Blackburn away

And I think Arblaster played in all of them.

According to Instagram "back on the grass" for the first time during his holiday.

Thought they had strict drug laws out there? Either way a bit of positive progression

He's there with a lady friend too. Best not open that can of worms, hey 🤣
