Barely a sniff for one of the best front lines in the division.
What a signing John Egan has turned out to be, we look so much more solid and composed with him back there. We just don’t give away the sloppy goals we used to last season and he’s so good that Bash and JOC seem to be less worried about roaming forward, even simultaneously at times.
Enda Stevens too, a freebie out of League 2 - he just keeps on getting better and better this season. A contender for our Player of The Season now. Some of his attacking play and decision making is excellent and his touch has improved drastically on last season.
However, Chris Basham was our man of the match again today. Superb. What an engine. Up and down all day, such passion and drive. He really carried us forward and is such a leader on the field, you can see how much it means to him. He might look a bit clumsy at times, but his output is outstanding.
Kieran Dowell also looked good in his cameo. Very promising signs. Positive in everything he did and not afraid to carry the ball forward either (something that Fleck is excellent at, but hasn’t done enough of this season). Looking forward to seeing a bit more of him in the coming weeks, suspect he’ll start one of the next 2 games away from home.
On a side note, pleased that Wilder went with Clarke instead of Madine today. We didn’t need anything to distract us whilst we were trying to close the game out. We’ve got a couple of away games coming up where it would be a lot better to throw him in. If he performs well in those two games then I imagine the boos will be slightly more muted when he finally makes his home debut.
Cracking win that. Onwards!
