Not that I ever cared about it but at first it seemed like "cancel culture" was about people getting taken off speaking events or shows, but now it seems like being "cancelled" means that Twitter is mad at you for two days until the next meme comes along.

The hysteria around it has been whipped up to the point that there are probably septuagenarians sat at home worried that a pitch fork wielding mob will have their garden gnomes stolen and their windows through because they once described a barmaid as being "particularly well upholstered" in 1976.

In reality its largely stemmed, as you say, from a few student union speaking gigs by controversial figures being pulled largely because nobody wanted to listen to them in the first place. Its then been co-opted by variously celebrities who have become increasingly unpopular over a period of time due to a pattern of unsavoury comments and dick head behaviour coupled with increasingly poor professional output (i.e. Morrissey). We are now at the point where any public figure who comes in for criticism (justified or not) will claim they have been 'cancelled' rather than engage with what is being said or try to argue their position.

Rovers are my second team as I moved down from Sheffield to Bristol when I was 8.

Since joining Rovers he already has one court case hanging over him, now he has two and he says this.
He also has been crap at managing a team and we are languishing down the bottom of league 2. Why on earth is he in charge?

I feel for Coutts and Leon Clarke who are there are after decent blades careers and look terrible.

Is Barton a full weight bell end? YES.

Would I want him anywhere near my club? NO.

However, he has said something that is not great. As previously stated, there are multiple meanings though, and whilst non of them are good, its hardly crime of the century.

He has been sent down for assault, smashed an oppositions managers teeth out, stubbed out a cigar in a youths face. His brother was also sent to prison for murdering a kid with an ice axe.

He probably heard Simon Jordan on TalkShite that day and thought he too could look intelligent if he threw in some historical references.

I doubt hes attended a finishing school at any point, just shake your head, and whisper 'prick' as you move onto the next article

It’s in very bad taste.

He won’t be “cancelled” for 2 reasons:

1) of all the terrible things he’s done this ranks somewhere in the middle

2) “cancel culture” is largely made up.

Of all the things he has done I would say this ranks pretty much bottom. The blokes a full weight twat of that there is no doubt but this is story is pure manufactured clickbait and its worked.

He should have been put inside years ago for what he has done to people.
