Appalling performance

I just didn't get the 5 changes tonight

Starting with two up front, neither of which have weighed in with any goals this season. Why? Resting our leading goal scorer again Why? We've just had the international break what's the issue?

I understand tweaking the team as we have another game in 3 days, but I don't get changing half the team

As for Washington, I can see why his goal scoring record since his move to the Championship isn't what it should be

And yes, as others have said, the turn around in performance from Villa to tonight is difficult to fathom out, but these changes can't have helped

I wouldn't say we didn't deserve a point, they hardly touched the ball in the first half, but we faded badly in the second half & that has been said of a few performances now, It can't be fitness so it must be a confidence thing. At last we got something for a poor performance so I am happy about that if nothing else, however I am also pleased that the ritual roasting of Lundstrum excuse cannot be wheeled out.

Fleck always has a bad game after a break in the side he will come good Saturday. Norwood for the last hour was awful can’t see him having many bad games. Front two of Leon and Washington? no thanks. Back 3 are getting better by the game Basham Egan solid Joc ok. Baldock poor. Johnson ok. Duffy ok.

Worst performance at home I can remember under Wilder since Southend and even then we had the bonus of the first sighting of the new Coutts second half.
Sadly it already looks as if Washington and Marvellous Marvin are going to be on that transfer merry-go-round at the end of the season and Woodburn is taking on the appearance of James Wilson Mark II very quickly.
When you're playing crap but have quality up front you might still have a chance of a goal. We don't have that and a point was a major bonus tonight.

I thought we were too sluggish with the ball Saturday against Brizzle, letting them regroup when we won the ball but...

Tonight made Saturday look like we are world beaters...

What happened to Norwood? Hollywood passes all over-hit or misdirected and none of the simple couttsy don't give the ball away that he started to do so well

Fleck looked drugged

Washington offered zero

Johnsons delivery was a reminder of yesteryear with certain other "pacey wingers"

Even JOC looked asleep

Freeman before Baldock every time he is at least fit enough to pull on a pair of socks

Bash and Deano were the only ones to look awake and come out with any credit

Not being negative; just flummoxed to understand what happened tonight??

Norwood was fucking atrocious tonight, and Johnson wasn’t much better. A very disjointed performance, with Basham putting in the only decent shift. A better side than Brum would have tonked us.

I know Birmingham are a pathetic tin-pot side to many of us because they are near the foot of the table - but please look at their league record and especially the match stats.
Lost 2 games and the one at Bolton they had 52% possession and 17 shots.
They just can't score enough (thankfully) but not at all shabby.

Wilder asked for a response after the Bristol loss.
He got one but that poor effort was not what he wanted.
Two in a row without scoring a goal.

Passing and movement was non existent tonight. But Brum did a job on us and we couldn’t break them down or counter their pressing.
They were unlucky hitting the woodwork as well.
We just didn’t get any passing going at all. Fleck was invisible and Norwood has a nightmare.
We move on. Another chance for three points in Satdi and we go (possibly) top four.

Couldn’t make the game tonight but it sounds as though we got a lucky point against brum. The changes obviously didn’t work and Chris will make amends for Saturday. Some off the posts on here seem to have us fighting relegation after what was probably just an off day!!. IMO.
No matter a point has been gained and we move on to Saturday and hopefully 3 welcome points. UTB

Part of the reason we are so shell shocked is that for the first 25 minutes the passing was so slick and and crisp.

Now we've officially decided it was 'appalling', I await the first post to blame Clarke for being the reason behind it.
I confidently expect others to follow, blaming Lundstram for poor bench sitting or similar.

Fleck back in, Johnson for Stevens & Baldock for Injured freeman I get.

But Sharp and Mcgoldrick, why?

Clarke wasn’t deemed fit to come on even when we were chasing on Saturday. The chemistry between sharp/mcgoldrick and the midfield was working well so why not go with that?

Potentially cost us the game by being too bullish with a complete new paring against a defensively solid team.
We could have played all four of em up front today and still not got anywhere with that shocking midfield performance.

feel sorry for woodburn.. keeps getting thrown in into the middle of a clusterfuck
Egan was my MotM. he won everything including last ditch tackles made when our midfield gave it away.

Agree Egan was good too...

For me bash shaded it purely cos he tried to get things moving as well as doing the defensive duties

We've players Wilders brought in to find their place in the scheme of how we play .
We got a point despite it not coming together instantly for a few new faces. Patience will reap rewards as they catch up to speed

If Basham didn't win that MOTM award with about 85% of the vote there's something wrong.

I agree that Egan and Henderson also played well, the rest were either subpar or actively poor. The fact that Duffy, a playmaker who was no longer on the pitch, for a team that hadn't scored, got on the shortlist speaks volumes.

We didn’t play well and probably deserved to lose on clear cut chances but you can’t say we didn’t put enough good balls into the box in the first half? There were some great deliveries where Leon and Washington were no where to be found whereas I’m pretty sure Billy would’ve been on the end of atleast one of them?

Wilder needs to answer a few questions from the journalists regards team selection imho, it’s not as if we got hammered against Bristol City so there was a slight overreaction with the changes.

The only positive to come out of tonight was that he is allowed to substitute big Leon. :)

I'd love to start a new thread, headed maybe, "who the fuck have you signed that has improved us?" But as Laney Blade would be on my case like a mad grandma vampire, post 12.30, I thought I'd hide in this thread.

Marvellous Marvin J? FFS what are you a winger or a wing back? It's no good going and standing 80 yards away from the nearest player and waving at him. Poor old Jack is looking for a short out ball instead of punting it long. Normally he has a wing back there, but no, you you dildo have fucked off 80 yards away up the wing where even a Hollywood ball couldn't get to you, leaving a midfield player like Fleck to have to come wide to fill the gap and take the ball you are supposed to deal with. We had no shape and no structure because you kept fucking off to planet stupidity.

Washington. Looking sharp, quick and busy is no substitute for a footballing brain. McGoldrick showed you in the ten minutes he was on what was wrong with your game. Running around like a blue arsed fly doesn't' help a great deal. Either come back for the ball playing off a striker and make something of it or do what you did until hooked, which was absolutely nothing of note or worth. A fucking nony mouse.

Woodburn. Really? There are things called simple passes available. These involve passing very simply to persons on your own team. They do not involve straining every sinew to pass to the opposition.

Baldock had a fucking nightmare. Freeman every time.

God we are so middle table!

I thought Lundstram had an excellent bench. I hope he has a silent chuckle following that performance on the basis that he would have been hard pushed to make it worse.

You ask who Wilder has signed that has improved us and then only mention 2 players that were playing their first games tonight and a young 18 year old. What about the rest?

A good point well made and highlights my lack of precision in posting. Good Night. x

Back to normal now after the excitement of Bolton and Villa. Such a flurry of goals must be followed by two consecutive blanks.

Birmingham were difficult opposition and it was a harder game than Villa. They're very well organised.

It won't be the last time we're shut out at home this season.

It summed up why we won't get in the top 6. Struggle to break down sides like that then don't have enough of a plan B.

if i was an opposing manager playing us , i would just say press the fuck out of them and they will fall to bits , and thats what happened . We get a pressing team against us and we cant handle it , this needs to be addressed fast in training !

Maybe it's because Birmingham pressed the fuck out of us and gave us little time on the ball, whereas Villa just turned up expecting to win.
Good points, but we made the most amount of unforced errors I’ve seen in a long time tonight. Probably since Wilder came.

Just too many off days all round.

Ridiculous to compare this unfavourably with the Villa performance; that team tonight wouldn't have beaten Villa.
