Do Villa have a Manager at the moment? I wouldn't think they would be signing players when they don't have a bloke in charge.

I was wondering that too. You could forgive them for signing someone decent in the absence of a manager, but Danny Guthrie? The very definition of an ordinary Premiership player.

Don't forget, alot of these Premiership clubs don't just rely on a manager to sign players. There's probably somebody at the club with a ridiculous job title helping out with the signing of players until a man is appointed.

Agree about Guthrie as a player, would be good for a side just being promoted but not an Aston Villa standard player in my opinion.

Understand what you are saying and also understand its very much the US way of doing things. But if I were incoming to Aston Villa and I was told they had signed Danny Guthrie I would be looking for a job somewhere else because that just shows the level of ambition. He isn't even the best freebie available!

Completely agree, it would be disheartening. It's not as if Villa are a side that need to fill the 'homegrown' quota either!

Villa could be one of the bigger teams that could find themselves having a journey to the Championship soon if they are not careful much like what happened to Newcastle. Id like to see it as I think they are club that need the kick up the arse a season or so in the Championship can give.

Haven't look on there, but I see Huddersfield released Gary Roberts yesterday.

Would be an outstanding signing considering our dearth of quality on the flanks.

Good player is Gary Roberts.. I'd take him tomorrow
