Anyone not want promotion?

We shouldn't be getting carried away, if it happens it happens.
But luck balances itself out over the season and so far we have been lucky in almost every game...................We know this is true because the deluded have told us so

And don't forget, they keep reminding us that we haven't played anyone yet.

They're right of course. Wendy are shit

Never understood when people say they'd prefer to stay down. What is the point in supporting ANYTHING if you don't want it to get to the top
Because the Premier league is full of knobhead teams, knobhead owners, knobhead fans and just general knobheads

I want us to win all the time.

Unfortunately, in doing so you will end up in a division that is utterly devoid of the magic that made us love football in the first place. A league that pretty much exists only to sell televised sports entertainment.

But what am I to do? I can't start hoping we'll fail. Just have to enjoy the ride I guess.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

I just don't fancy being a Swansea or a Palace sat in the bottom half with the occasional relegation battle. The enjoyment would disappear for me, we wouldn't be challenging to win the Prem, we'd just be existing.
When have we ever had a boring few seasons?

We’d either surprise and build further, or be in a relegation scrap.

This club doesn’t do half measures.

We have to go for it and enjoy the road. We have good people in charge of the club and team, let’s see where we end up and moan about it in a few years.

More the reason to get up there and show them what a proper football club is about then.
Yeah get up, win it, then resign from the PL stating that the Championship has fewer Knobheads

I love what is happening at the moment. I'd love for more success, more promotion, cups, the fucking works.

But the Premier League? The 'Gulf in Class' has been thrown at us regarding our move up on league this season, and we have, so far, managed to disprove that. With some ease, in fact. I think this is 'The Wilder Effect' and when he came here, many of us were hoping something like that would happen, although I doubt many would believe it so quick and with so few playing staff adjustments.

But the Gulf in Class does exist and unfortunately it exists between where we are now, and having our good midfield torn a new arse by the likes of De Breunye, Matic, Hazard, Shaquiri, Arnautovic, Mahrez, Eriksson and countless others who have done it on an international club level. Notice, all of those names (off the top of my head) are not British players, which is where we will have to shop (and shop well) if we are to stand any chance of surviving 12 months at the elevated, big money level. Wolves last night had expensive imports, but even those would be served and served badly against Man Citeh and Utd, even Stoke, Leicester and Bournemouth. Looking elsewhere, can you see Stearman or Basham up against Rashford, Aguero, Coutinho or Lacazette? Putting it mildly, we'd need £100m-£120m of real game changing investment to ensure mid table safety. Look what happened last time, when Hulse broke his ankle. One player gone and the arse end fell out of our season.

Like I say, Wilder and the team deserve every success, but it should escape the attention of many on here that at least 95% of our starting eleven yesterday would have to be moved out to make way for names we can't pronounce and the style of play we love to watch these days would be a memory. BDTBL would be bedecked with advertising opportunities, the world would become plasticised and heaven forbid, we fuck it up again, our descent back to the doom of Div One (whilst Wilder gets sacked and goes on to manage Stoke or WBA in the PL) would be equally rapid and equally destructive. We have to be careful and build, rather than have it all at once.

I personally think we've had a bit of bad luck this season, goal disallowed at Middlesboro, four disallowed goals for offside, three of which weren't offside (I'm not counting the one at the Swill in these four goals because that was obviously offside) we've hit the post or crossbar more than anybody else I'd bet, and our injury list has been atrocious.

If we got promoted we'd receive approx. £170 million just for being there, EVERY SEASON. that's more than enough for Wilder to produce a good team. A sizeable portion of the rest pays wages. And then those stadium plans can become reality.

The Premier League milks football for everything it can get, we should use it for our own convenience as well

Seen some daft stuff on here but this wins it

Ask Leicester if they'd rather still be in championship. Having time of their lives even when 'struggling'

If we can get between 65 and 80 points this year that's a pretty good achievement. Think squad isn't strong enough to get top 2 (about 85+ points) but 76 usually gets top 6 and that's 55 more points from here on (15 wins, 10 draws, 11 defeats). That's doable. After that who cares!!

Go up let Leon score goal after goal UTB

Aye - I get it that the PL will shove money our way.

But its how much of that trickles it's way down to the on-pitch level which concerns me. Not getting too far ahead of ourselves here, but how many of our players would you put out against Man City in a run-of-the-mill end of November, Sunday afternoon game live on Sky?

Blackman: He'd be like a squaddie in the trenches. Moore not much better. And after watching George Long flap the ball into his own net on Satdi ...
Stevens: Never done it at any elevated level. He'd struggle with City's overlapping and Sterling, on his day, would be well past him
O'Connell: Unknown. But like Maguire once upon a time, he can't do the central defence duty on his own. Aguero and such like would be far to astute for him
Wright/Stearmen/Basham: Definitely not
Baldock/Freeman: Could do. But they'd barely get forward
Coutts/Fleck: PL midfields are undoutedly better arranged and more experienced in switching play, so 'wavy hand'. Delph, Silva and De B would be pretty much in charge in the centre of the park.
Duffy/Carruthers: Nope
Brooks: Possibly the only person at PL standard, but only then with three years consistent playing and training at that level in him
Sharp/Evans/Donaldson/Clarke: Nope. An are definitely needing replacement. PL defences and central pairings would have these in their pockets

This might look defeatist, but I feel it's pretty realistic. Upstairs, we can't be reliant upon grinding out 1-1 draws with lesser clubs and hoping we hit 40 points, somehow, someway. We did that last time and it almost ended up destroying the club. If we get promoted to the PL, we'd best be in a position to stay there and keep the investment coming at a steady rate until we are at a standard which befits the position.

We were discussing this tonight. Promotion to the PL would inevitably mean that we would be in a league where we'd finish mid table at best, and probably be in a relegation scrap. Prices would rocket. We'd gain plastic fans from across the world. Merger talks would re-ignite. McCabe would be tempted to cash in. Punters would talk about us in cliched terms. We'd have to pay 60 quid to go to places like the Emirates.

Wonder if we could win this league then decline the promotion.
and just take the money instead and finish top of the Championship every season instead? ;)

On the other hand, we'd be watching the best players in the world every week and be able to build up the infrastructure of the club. We may have a better chance of winning a Cup trophy of some sorts and see our team compete in Europe. We could even do a Leicester? I know, those things seem remote right now but I don't think there's any substitute with competing at the highest level if you want to be successful, whatever field you're in. It's the only place to be.

It would be tough to finish near the top but not impossible. Relegation isn't inevitable. Prices would definitely go up but it'd still be better value than most clubs at that level unless there was a major change of ethos at the club. Mergers would not be on the cards at all - why would they? Mergers occur most commonly when two organisations with problems try to cut some of them out through cost-savings by merging. If an organisation is strong it has no need to consider mergers - and we'd be strongest if we were in the Prem. McCabe will definitely be tempted to cash in - of course he would. He's stated before he doesn't want to be around for ever and he'd be crazy not to sell up when our stock is highest. That brings uncertainty of course and none of us want to see the club sold down the Swanny to some investors that don't care about the club - but it's going to happen one day soon regardless of which division we are in, because McCabe won't hang around for ever. So I'd rather sell out whilst we are in a strong position than a weak one. I couldn't care less what punters say about us - they'll say all sorts no matter what league we are in. And no one will force us to go to expensive away games if we don't feel it's good value to do so. It's still a personal choice.

Put me down for the Premiership please. I'll be happy to take that opportunity whatever shite it may bring.

The PL isn't what it used to be I'm afraid, and signicificent investment is needed to compete (bar the one-off Leicester story). If we did get promoted I'd want us to retain our approach to sales, football and the community that Wilder and the team have rebuilt, and see where we are in a few seasons.

It's really sad that the vast majority of football clubs can only realistically aim to be comfortable in the PL, but that's how it is these days I guess.

no sorry i never went in for this 'relegation could be a good thing' guff in the first place

I'd like us to go about things like Burnley have: take the financial rewards of the PL, don't spunk it all on cosmically high wages paid to nesh twats, build better infrastructure within the club, and be financially sound. If we then get relegated, we can enjoy the championship without having to desperately spunk money trying to get back up there immediately.

Football in general needs more longer-term thinking. The average tenure of a manager these days is astoundingly short.

All those knobhead fans, the tens of millions spent on no mark players, the pretence and posturing, the stratospheric wages, the preening sponsorship deals...

The S6 meltdown would make Kim Jong-Un gasp.
