I’m clearing out cupboards and found this. We played Brentford at home on that day 27/11/82 it’s quality made by Warris of Sheffield and has a decent weight. It’s A4 in size. As it was presented by Mansfield brewery I’m assuming it was something like a Man of the Match award. But does anyone else know more. If it’s of historical value and they want it I’d donate it to the Blades museum, though I doubt it would be of interest to them. Any ideas?360295FC-FB38-45CB-8300-24E75EBACDAD.jpegA81FEDB5-E84D-4C04-9047-DCC9174800A3.jpeg75580546-F8C7-4FE4-A49E-CFD2107F65F1.jpeg

That was, I think, the second game I ever went to. I had to ask my mate’s Dad where Brentford was as me and my mate had no idea. I have no recollection of that being awarded or presented to anyone but I may not have been paying attention. I think we drew 1-1.

As Yellarbellyblade says, think it's a gift.
It says 'presented TO Mansfield brewery' .

I'd email the club for someone to advise, as I first went to games c 1974 and haven't come across this item. Some historian will know plus maybe on here ie Silent Blade.

Didnt go to many matches that season cos I was playing football regularly on Saturday afternoons. Didnt go to the Brentford match.

Sorry dont remember

Looks very much like an ashtray. See the edges have indents. Does a cig fit perfectly in an indent ? Also breweries used to do ashtrays back then. Anyone else agree ?
I did the inaugural Mansfield Half Marathon, and we were all given a commemorative ash tray. 🤷‍♂️

It’s actually presented to Mansfield Brewery, not by. So maybe it’s something to do with them sponsoring us at the time, matchday sponsor or something like that?

I think these were probably presented to businesses who were match day sponsors. To be proudly displayed in the company boardroom or shoved in the managing directors sock drawer at home, never to be seen again.

Until, one day some forty years later……😉

Not much matches Mansfield........

My first pint. Barlow Young Farmers Rock Night. 35p a pint in plastic pots.

Proper nights out. Meet up in the Peacock - not get served - fight with the kids from Newbold on the Rec - get pissed on 4 pints of Mansfield to AC/DC and Whitesnake - walk home pissed through the woods and scare the living shite out of each other.

Simpler times eh?

“ Barlow Young Farmers Rock Night.”

Aka “meet your sister and get engaged night”?

Something seriously wrong with the both of you. It was shite. I can only assume you put lemonade in Stones, Wards, Smiths or Tetleys. Or probably blackcurrent in Trophy!

When you were 17, any beer was nectar, maybe that’s a bit too far back for you…..😁
