So i've reached that point where counting how many games without a win has become tiresome; Mocking from wednesday (and worse; Leeds) mates has numbed me and the stark realisation that we can't afford to sack blackie has set in...

However, with this upsettingly pessimistic realisation comes a kind of epiphany...a moment of calm....i can actually go to the game today and maybe enjoy it...i dunno....i'm past caring about the results now - instead it's just gonna be about enjoying a day out with my mates...

...which is what footy should be right?

Right on bro

The next stage is not going at all though ,several regulars I know of aren't going. Almost 6 thousand season ticket holders didn't go against Cardiff ,I think that will be beaten today ;-(

Two more regulars here aren't going and haven't been since donny match.

I hope the club monitor things like the number of season ticket holders attending

I miss some games due to pup jnr's games over-lapping k-off. I don't know if our 3 Sts are 'counted' in the final attendance figure or not?? I know this much, the club wouldn't give a flying duck if all the ST holders didnt attend, they've got the money now.

Depends on how many pies & pints those missing season ticket holders usually have i guess....

Dang wished I'd not bothered too. Walking down Granville Road on my way to the Lane, my mind usually would have been on the match in hand. I should have been wondering what the line up was going to be and stuff like that but in reality, all I could think about was the jobs I could have got done if I'd stayed at home. It's wrong I know, but that's how I feel about the Blades at the moment. Apathy rules OK!

i am a season ticket holder, live in hampshire..if the team is playing football, looks promising i was making the journeys..this season mirrors Robson's....and i am afraid apathy has set in..did i fancy 400 miles on a horribly wet day to watch 3rd rate hoofball...NO..
happy we won though!

Season tickets are always counted in the attendance figure whether they turn up or not....along with all the stewards and staff present....it's a little trick all clubs do!

United and Norwich were the last teams in the top 2 divisions to adopt this practice, I recall.

Interesting. Do you know when we started doing that? It obviously makes today's attendance figures not really comparable with figures before we started doing it.

So if this is the case then there were only 19,000 against Cardiff?
Where did this 6000 figure come from and who counted the 6000 that didn't attend?

I can't recall exactly but it is in the last 10 years I think. It was mentioned either in the programme or the Green Un (and maybe both). It was expressly mentioned that we and Norwich were changing our policy because we were the only hold outs, so to speak.

I recall we have had very few sub 20,000 gates since 2002-3 - that might be the last season we did not do this.

Incidentally, I was told once that one of the reasons that Man Utd's attendances were always much higher than everyone elses even when they weren't doing so well in the 1970's and 1980's was because they were one of the first teams to start counting this way.

As for the difference between real crowds and tickets sold, I think United and Wednesday say the difference is small - 3-5% at most usually - but according to an article I read about Bradford their "gap" is much larger due to the cheap season tickets. A 12,000 crowd, which they typically get, can be several thousand lower.

Sitwell - in addition to Boo's post - I'd also to ask if you are saying that there were only 19k in the ground against Cardiff. I know you're only passing stuff on but I can't believe that 6k is right.

There was an almost 20% jump in our average attendance in 03-04 as compared to 02-03 so that may be when the changeover happened - though the change could be just as well due to more people buying season tickets (and attending games) after the relative success in 02-03.

Will be a sad day when we slip below 20k again. Don't think it will happen this term though.

I think Saturday was 8th consecutive 25k plus crowd - not sure if we did this in either of last two terms and don't think we did in promotion season. It's incredible that when I was going with my dad in mid 80's anything above 12k used to be a significant crowd. Did we get 8 consecutive 25k plus in the 1970 promotion season?

Given our number of season ticket holders it would be virtually impossible.

As far as I can recall, we last had a sub 20,000 crowd for a league game at the start of 2005-6, a sub 15,000 crowd during 2002-3, and a crowd of less than 10,000 during 1999-2000.

Hmm cannot believe that 6000 STHs would not go to the game especially since their hard earned money would be wasted especially in these hard times.
So 5% of a 25000 crowd is 23750 is that right and thats how we judge it?

Im not really apethetic and I think comapring this season to Robsons is abit harsh, we have a genuine excuse that we're not doing so well this season as we have a horendouse injury propblem. Whereas Robson spent a fortune and was crap

After Saturday I was quite happy, we're back to winning and I think this is the start of the upturn and we're about to go on a good run.

I thought Camara and Williamson both looked decent and can give us some hope.

If all our fans wernt such moaning fickle gits and actually got behind the team instead of moaning and booing we would probably do much better.

Our average crowd over the 3 seasons 2006-09 is 27,389 (obviously helped by the PL season), which is our highest average over 3 seasons since 1951-54 when we averaged 31,175,

Our top 10 average attendances:

1947-48 Division One 12th 35,094
1948-49 Division One 22nd (relegated) 34,387
1971-72 Division One 9th 33,189
1953-54 Division One 20th 31,313
1951-52 Division Two 11th 31,185
1952-53 Division Two 1st (promoted) 31,027
1949-50 Division Two 3rd 30,764
2006-07 Premier League 18th (relegated) 30,684
1946-47 Division One 6th 29,537
1950-51 Division Two 8th 27,488

So that's the 8 seasons after the War, when crowds were at their all time highest, and two top flight seasons from the last 40 years.

Last year was the 12th best of all time.

and here comes that old familiar crock of shit out for another airing.

The crowd only got restive in the second half AFTER we had gone negative and shit. If we play well it is reflected in the audience response (i.e. a positive reaction despite losses to Cardiff/Newcastle), but if we play shite some people actually notice and may disapprove.

I've said before and I'll say again ALL supporters at ALL grounds are exactly the same!

Can we stick to more constructive discussions than this please?

Nothing starts arguments more than dismissing someone's opinion out of hand in this way.

Disagree, but please do it nicely.

Some big news in the next week or two at SUFC, might cheer you all up...

What are we building now????

Answer to original question. No? If I get overwhelmed by the downers I just go on Bladesonline for a little positive feedback - look at FBR for the last article on Birch and the Blades player ratings for the Peterboro game - now that's positive. UTB!
