Any truth in these Brayford to Burton rumours?

If by selling Brayford it would allow us to bring in 3 players who would strengthen the squad overall, then we should sell him.

You're one of those that voted to Leave because you believe we'll spend the 350m a week on the NHS aren't you?

Are you suggesting Foxy and Linz disable the “player suggestion” tool on the forum?

.

Many posters dont use the "player suggestion" tool when they suggest who we sign and it is also posted in the WRONG SECTION! When looking in the rumour section I always ignore the posts with the tool "player suggestion as it saves me time from having to read some drivel!

It also makes me think that if we did sell him there would be those complaining about us selling our best players. There really is no pleasing people......especially Blades.

Yeah, especially Blades. Because I'm sure you pay such close attention to fans of all other clubs don't you?

He suffered one serious injury as a result of a player landing on his leg as he intervened superbly to clear up a Jay McEveley mess. Anybody would have suffered the same injury if the same thing had happened to them (the way the leg was extended, the opposing player landing on it etc.). He returned from that injury 7 months later (despite it keeping most players out for about a year). He then suffered a calf injury towards the end of last season. He’s now fit again.

So that’s one muscle strain/tear in the 18 months since we signed him. Wouldn’t exactly call that injury “prone”. Just very unfortunate that the other injury happened the way it did. Same thing happened to LJF and it finished him. Then again, he had Kuqi and Maguire land together on his knee.

We have 5 remaining players (plus hopefully our 2 new additions) that are first team standard. Getting rid of any of them would be damaging and should only be considered if teams are willing to pay way over the odds for them.

We already need to add at least 4 players to have a competitive first team before we start on any strength in depth. Let’s not increase that number unless we absolutely have to.

Absolutely spot on mate ....... have 11 likes :D

I agree with the sentiment. However, for £5000 per week you should be able to purchase top quality for this division.

I suspect Brayford is on 3X that (purely speculation), and if so, and if we can't make the necessary reinforcements elsewhere because of financial constraints, then we should consider doing business.

Of course, the reality that we've fucked up just about every purchase in the last decade taints this view somewhat, but the gist that we can't blindly say "we must keep player X" without considering the impact on the ability to sign player "Y" and "Z", holds true.

With the amount we've lost from the wages budget having culled Hammond, released 10 plus the ones released between January & end of season and hopefully getting rid of most on the transfer list, we should have ample wages left to assemble a competitive squad as well as reducing the wages budget from last seasons level.

The key question is ....... will the Board back Tufty to do it ??

I'm not holding my breath since they've amply demonstrated that they collectively know f**k all about football !!! o_O

I agree with the last bit but I'd only consider selling Brayford if we got similar money to what we paid for him. That's the only way I could see us following it up with a couple of really credible signings.

What's the point though ...... the proceeds of sales don't get reinvested in the first team anyway so we might as well keep what little quality we have and build on it ........

Ah, criticizing poor forum etiquette is fair enough in my opinion.

If people follow the protocol, then you can, as you say, avoid the threads you don’t want to read. Personally, I enjoy those types of threads but each to their own.

You’re right. As a fan, I would still be sorry to see him go even then. But, from a business perspective, I think a sale at that price would be decent business and should in theory, allow more quality simply by virtue of the fact that his age, form, nature of the serious injury he’s had etc. I’m not convinced he’s worth that much. Therefore I’d consider it a case of a team “paying over the odds” in which case there would be a temptation to sell.

I also don’t think it’s as simple as “the money is not reinvested” either. I think generally, money is reinvested but very poorly. We run at a big loss with a huge wage bill so that money helps to plug those losses and those wages that we are already paying. It’s not the way we as fans want it. We want the board to put their hand in their pocket and spend the money to acquire serious quality whilst retaining what quality we already have. But it seems that’s unlikely.

I think this depends upon what you class as the transfer proceeds being re-invested. For me, I don't class it as reinvesting the proceeds if they're used to cover the wage bill ........... that's just subsidising the owners input into the Club in my eyes.

My idea of re-investing the transfer proceeds is ...... ok Tufty, here's the £2 million we got for selling Murphy, that's added to your transfer budget. Build us a squad which can realistically compete in this Division.

As I said earlier, the amount we've saved on the wages budget having offloaded players between January & end of season, culled Hammond, released 10 more and hopefully getting rid of most on the transfer list, we should have sufficient scope in the wages budget to pay for a competitive squad as well as reducing the wages budget from last seasons level.

The problem is that the Club's owners know f**k all about football and couldn't run a bath !! :(

The only issue I have with that is we don't know what wage budget has been set beforehand. It might be that the overall budget does go up by the amount received. I understand the owners claim to have invested £8million last season. They might have previously been prepared to subsidise by £6million for example.

Much as I don't like Coutts it's entirely possible he would be more effective in the championship than div one...let's hope Cloughie thinks so !

He would definitely be more effective in the Championship at a club like Burton under a manager like Clough....
