3 away wins and 11 points from 19 games is not decent in my eyes for anyone.

So far this season, with one more to go, this is the number of away wins for some prem teams;

Cheats = 1
Wigan = 3
Sun'lan = 2
Stoke = 3
Blackburn = 2
Fulham = 1

Even Liverpool have only won 5 to date - so how is 3 in your first season so bad?

By the way Hull have won none, Burnley 1 and Pompey 2

Kenilworth, first of all we're talking about an entirely different season. Secondly the bottom 5 or 6 are possibly some of the worst in those postions the PL has ever seen!

Thirdly, the gulf in class increases season on season. This year is not comparable at all to the year we were in there.

At the end of the day I am not the only one that takes this view. I know a lot of Blades who felt the same about our away form that season and I have spoken to the like-minded regarding this on here several times. I don't need to justfiy it because many felt the same way. After going to about 10 away games that season I could see the way we approached games. Points and wins justify nothing unless you get them. I saw them play on the road with my own eyes.

Lou - never disputed your view on tactics or away form just the derision you expressed about the return of points away from home in our most recent season in the top flight.

I happen to think it is comparable since I compared one prem season with another, both consisting of 19 away games. My point was amply illustrated by the fact that there are several teams in the Prem who will get fewer wins and in a lot of cases a lower points tally away from home than we did who will not be dropping into the fizzy brown, rank tasting pop stuff league.

It wasnt a reserve team and they put in a bloody good performance.

It was a reserve team, 8 or 9 changes including Nicky Laws debut in midfield, they did put a good shift in which was my point if we had gone away and played more adventurous we would have picked up more points

No it bloody well wasn't SP. I think the clouds of time have fuddled your brain.

We were losing to all kinds of shite back then culminating in that dreadful game against Walsall where Don Givens fluffed his lines. The football was comical until Porterfield came in and sorted it out.

The 1981/82 team played decent football.
And there was some bloke up front who played for us then who, putting it mildly, was a better striker than some geezer we've just shelled £3m out on.
The guy on the wing was decent as well.

No I suppose you didnt dispute that. It was more of a general comment to the counter argument anyway to be honest.

Its true, there probably will be sides with less wins staying up this time around and other times; but then that brings us to their home form doesnt it????.....we could go on all night justifying this and providing evidence for that but both side are debatable.

IMO we weren't good enough. Nothing will change my mind on that, no matter what way we look at it. I do however agree that certain teams appeared to be exempt from the same rules as everyone else and were handed an advantage. I simply feel that we allowed them to gain from this advantage and it was avoidable. I happen to think our squad that season was good enough to stay up - quite easily. I do however think that our tactics were negative and that some bad decisions were made in our own camp at key times.

I would never dispute that United did their best and that they produced some great memories that season; because they did both. All I'm saying is that sides down the bottom have to battle against the odds. We appeared to have been dealt a poor hand at times but our destiny was in our own hands for much of the season and we couldn't make it over the line.

I respect the opinions of everyone who argues against this view but that's how I see it and how I will always see it. I won't be drawn on it again because I think ive exhausted my argument now.

Morris and Edwards - what a combo that was! Bobby Hatton as well, with his special turn, was always worth the admin money.
Lenners you have me all bleary eyed for that scintillating wing play from the ginger candy flossed haired one and the clinical finishing of Mr Edwards.

Aye.
Currie and Woodward, Edwards and Morris, Deane and Agana.
Could do with another double act making an appearance sharpish.
