"Certainly no championship club will help us out, so it seems likely we will focus our efforts on young premiership players"

is it just my opinion that this is what he should be doing anyway? why is his first instinct 'we need a striker, lets ask derby'.

this year we have signed players that arent good enough for other championship teams e.g. seip, connoly, stewart, yeates etc. what makes him think this will work?

Bartley is a perfect example of what we should be aiming for. more premier league youngsters please kev and less championship journey men!!

I think the quote actually looks a bit more daft considering our loan signing last week.

I'd have thought it says nothing much about his mentality myself.

It's a throw away comment probably led by a question about which teams they were going to watch.

For fecks sake. Is it really necessary to pick apart every word the poor sod is reported as saying for hidden meanings. Can't you put your immense powers of linguo/psycho-analysis to better use, like solving a murder or something..?

It's a good job they've stopped using the Stocks;) Some would have Blackwell in em' like a shot. Very sad :(

It could also be interpreted as "Our rivals will not want to let us have a decent striker. Let's see what decent young ones we can borrow from a higher league than us, which would probably be a better prospect."

Tell that to Doncaster.

if Spurs can suddenly recall young Kyle (for whatever reason) why can't we get the goalscoring machine we currently have banging them in for Donny??? FFS

Er, just maybe, a wild guess - because they inserted a clause in the contract allowing them to do so and we didn't?
ALERT! ----- Fact gets in way of argument ----- please ignore ----- more Blackwell slagging please

You think the way into the premier league is through premier league loanee kids?

I'm saying that, if we HAVE to get loanees in, it is a much better option that journeymen, who actually werent even good when they were at their best!!

indeed.. i have my sack of cabbages at the ready. just say the word :-)

I've been told it was an agreement that was agreed to if Donny pay his wages in full ,whereas we are part paying the wages of our loanees.

In general I agree with you but I can't let this latest gem of a quotation from The Star slide by "Yes, there are a lot of youngsters in the squad...".

No there aren't! We did have a few but we sold them all (Naughton, Walker, Cotterill, Reid). Who is he talking about? Does he even know his own squad?

I'll give him Bartley, Evans and Lowton but the rest of the squad are at least 24 years old. THREE players can in no way be described as "a lot of youngsters".

I think it's quotes like this and exaggerations he's made in the past about "half the team are under 21" (they weren't) that give people unnecessary cause for concern about his mindset.
