Money made again from transfers this summer approx 2m in nothing out, plus players out on more wages than those coming in. But still we are short on players with just 3 days to go.

Dave - your negativity about the money situation and perceived lack of investment make me want to tear my hair out. :loopy:
Bob is right. We have no divine right to expect KMc to continue to subsidise the club and it's cost base. Players have left and players come in, but if proceeds aren't held back to cover costs we are looking at a £4/5m loss based on last season's wage levels. Apre-season profit subsidises season long losses. If Birch has got our wage bill down from £14m to nearer £7m or £8m fair play, but it's not that straight forward and if income doesn't cover costs, where does it come from?
3 years ago I think 6 Championship clubs made an operating profit, that then dropped to 3 and last year not one club made an operating profit. Only one made a net profit, us - thanks to the accounting treatment to recognise all the Tevez money. Football is in a mess, rarely do clubs outside the Premiership spend significantly on transfer fees and even some of those in it don't or find it tough (Bolton have signed Blake and Petrov on frees, Alonso for an undisclosed fee and that meant that tehy couldn't afford Klasnic if Nantes hadn't released him).
Look down the list of Championship clubs, who has spent significant money this summer? Doncaster's chairman has funded a marquee signing, QPR have multi-millionairre backers, others that are spending are taking a massive gamble. We did that, didn't quite make it and now have to cut our cloth accordingly. We need a reality check. If Bartley and Dickinson come in we have built and effective squad to be at least top 8 and that is with the unfortunate injuries to Henderson and Walton. Let's be positive, gambling it all leaves Pompey on the brink tomorrow asking for a "sporting chance" that I wouldn't want to give them (it seems that last year only Scudamore did). Let's leave our neighbours trying to emulate that.:swfc:
We want Sheffield United to be here in 10 years time, not FC United of Sheffield.
Thanks for that. It's probably one of the truest things i have read on any Sheffield United forum over the last few years, but the realists will dismiss you as being a clapper, and the clappers will dismiss you as being a knocker.
No matter what way you look at it, that is absolutely bang on, still won't stop Lenners and the sunshine band coming on here for their daily dose of misery tomorrow

Give it a rest man. Your quick to come out with insults and derogatory remarks (although I do like the name 'sunshine band' and am happy to be named as one of the top 4 membersso thanks for that) but not so quick to come out with stimulating debate, interesting comments or significant contributions. This is a forum, a place for debate. If you don't like the 'sunshine bands' posts then don't read them, or go to another forum. In fact why don't you set one up Brownie? You could set up a 'clappers' forum, where there is no negativity, abolsute optimism and the questioning of the club will be dealt with like Stlain dealt 'traitors'.
The waste of money at BDTBL makes me think the loonie labour party have been running the show !![]()

There is not much more that i could have added to what Shreds had written. To be quite honest that is a realistic view of things. We have no divine right to expect McCabe to throw more and money at the club when he has already done that.
The bottom line is that United have had to cut their cloth accordingly to play at a level below the Premiership, and that is what they have done. Do people not see that employing players on Premiership wages is financial madness?
You can me a clapper, or say whatever you want to, but the bottom line is that i see and form my own opinions, and use them as i see fit. I'm just fed up of the continual bastard negativity that is always on here day in, day out by the same perpetrators.
we still have a very small squad and this point so close to the season can you not see that we are going to get despret two weeks in and sign players like jordan stewart
surely it would be better to spend £500,000 now on few season long loans or even freebies as back players than gamble on these short term loans that have been made to come by their parent clubs.
Theres still players out there that are going to be surplus to requirements this season.
I rekon our scouting system is doesnt exist!
The Jordan Stewart transfer is one on its own. I can't post all the in's and outs but if you look at the outs when Stewart came in you can piece most of it together.
I don't think we are waiting on short term loans, I said a while back I expected about 4 and I think that will be more or less right, there may be an additional one to cover Walton.
While on the subject of Walton there is a rumour that his injury again isn't as bad as first thought. Not heard anything to confirm this and it would seem to go against what has been said by Blackwell this week but that would be a bonus and just the type of squad player you are talking about.
hi olle.. where do i get my application form for the sunshine band?
I too am fed up with the continual negativity on here - and also the criticism of anyone who dare oppose the "knockers", some of which is reasonably well argued (Ollesendro being the most notable), but much of which is simple knee-jerk reaction.
As a result I post far less than in the past - as do a number of others with similar views. It seems to have become unacceptable to a number of vociferous "knockers" on here, to say anything positive (or even neutral) about the club. I for one feel a degree of imtimidation which is stifling debate - not encouraging it.
A greater degree of thought - more replies from the brain rather than the gut - might see a more rounded debate.

Criticising the club's lack of ambition and creativity and nouse in the transfer market does not mean you want us to see us go mad and be 'another Pompey. '
It is possible that McCabe has made some very bad decisions as well as some very good ones during his tenure.
I think his intentions have always been good.
But he has presided over a club during a period when we have racked up a £50m debt for one season in the top flight and let's face it we now look like we are in for our usual 10 year plus exile from the Prem.
Sure we've smartened the ground up a little bit during his time - but how many big club's haven't during that period. Crowds went up - as they did at most clubs.
I'd like to have seen a bit more honesty from McCabe about the mistakes and a bit more sensible ambition in the transfer market and just as importantly a bit more imagination in who we sign and who we appoint as manager. I don't think we'll get any of it in the foreseeable.
Quality post Tuns. Can we have more please?
