Hammond, when you consider his reputation as a good player and Premier League status at the time of signing him.

Sammon.

Hammond and Woolford had decent careers before their legs went.

Connor Sammon looked the least like a professional footballer of anyone I've ever seen in a Blades shirt looked even less like a footballer than Jonathan Hunt which I didn't think was possible.

Dean Hammond, absolutely no competition seeing he was on a big wage and it cost us a lot just to get rid. Parasite!

Has to be Simmo. All the others were just abysmal, but Simmo had that incredible ability to be both crap and had a knack of making an absolutely unbelievable mistake at the worst possible time. He was also one of our top earners at the time.

Be it dropping a cross in the 93rd minute to the oppo striker, punching the ball in his own net (it happened) or spooning that pen over the top of the stand at Wembley, Simmo was the worst player I've ever seen.

JMac had one or two very good runs of games, back to back, where he played out of his skin. He was also calamitous at times. Not sure he belongs in the "worst of", though. Some of dannysufc_ 's choices were much worse, for me (Westlake, Hammond, eg, ffs !).

EDIT: No surprise in the poll results so far, then :)

I think the more recent memories of the Adkins era cloud the judgment on some of those polls. The likes of Paynter, Williams and Barry Fucking Robson would make up my top three for example.

You on about when the clown flapped at a cross at Orient, straight to Kevin LIsbie?,still bugs me today that goal

Hammond. Unseen, unbelievably bad. And, despite that, raking it in "in retirement" thanks to Adkins's generosity.

In saying that, is his contribution clouded by his association with Adkins (& boosting by Adkins) and his wage-thievery? A factor, but probably not.

In terms of footballing ability Marcus Williams has to win this. I know there's so crap in the list but Williams wouldn't even get in Sunday league team. In one game I saw the ball played to him, he went to control it and it went over his foot and out for a throw in, 5 minutes later he did it again.

The worst footballer is undoubtedly Williams, but for sheer oafishness it has to be Hammond, the Adkins connection and the money grabbing when multiplied by his lack of any ability to affect a game make him the stand out worst.

I know he barely gets mention and he was a manager but DAVID WEIR.

We'd have been League 2 by now if we'd have stuck with him.

What makes it worse was that Wilder got a mention at the time as potentially taking over and we got him instead

£ for £ it's got to be Hammond surely?.

Top end Championship wages for a player whose legs had obviously gone, and then having to pay him off to get rid. Shocking player and a shockingly bad deal by a shocking manager

As for McEvely, bad as he could be at times, I think he had more decent games than the other four put together.

He probably thinks 'If they'd given me more time I'd have got them up' and Adkins will be the same. It won't have been their fault that their team's were a bag I shite.

...and I thought it was about Montgomery.
You're the one posting pictures of your favourite player.
Fleck and Duffy in the hi vis picking him up and moving him along all season.
Think they went to the boss and finally got a motorised one for the last few games.

All teams have their fair share of shite but
....the quantity we've employed over the last 10 years is just breathtaking...some proper garbage.

I'd forgotten that! :D

Hammond by far, and then to activate that ludicrous clause after all that was the icing on the huge crap cake.

I dislike him.

Looking back over the 6 seasons in league 1,the biggest waste of space is without doubt,Nigel Adkins..what a tosser

As poor as Woolford was how can anyone overlook the lack of contribution and general uselessness made by festering arse boil Hammond?
