Cop out reply
Sorry my mistake I thought you were referring to World Surf League, genuine mistake.

I have heard of WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) and I must say I am a big fan. Use it daily in my job. If that’s what you mean? Although I’m not sure of the relevance of said question in regards to a post about inclusivity.

Hopefully this response meets your requirement to not be a cop out reply.

If not I am more than happy to take on any further feedback you may have.

Waited years before posting and
it's all been for waffle ☹️

I've always struggled as to why women wanted to be equal, because my mum runs the show and always did, she was no 1 in our house growing up and still Is today, an absolutely magnificent woman.

Being equal would have meant my dad taking half the decisions, and he'd have fucked his half up 😂😂

Person to person marking? The Dingles have made a 5 person wall to defend Norwood's incoming bender? The Blades are a person down after Berge chipped a nail....?

So much to look forward to and so little time. John Motson must be spinning already...😄

And here is a perfect example of how strange people have become.

It's not player of the match its man of the match , it's always been man of the match as it's a game played by 22 men , u can have woman of the match in women's football no one will be offended because no one cares anyway, but they can use player of the match if they choose , but there is absolutely no reason to call it player of the match

What will be next a booking and a diversity course for shouting "man on" will we switch to "person to person" marking at set pieces,

It's becoming ridiculous
You really are a tit.

I find "player of the match" discriminatory to all the participants of the match who feel as though its just a job and they are not "players" as there is no "play" assoiciated with their 90 minutes of hard work and graft. I word prefer the term best worker of the shift.

I fucking love this WSL to be fair.

Last night the commentator asked Jenas who his player of the match was and when he answered he said the “player of the match was”
Sorry, I thought he said 'man', BBC sport website has him as man of the match. Either way, he was or should have been man of the match.

I can help then. World football is split into the men's game and the women's game. In England the women's top level game is WSL , women's super League.
Football isn't gender neutral at that level. There is no need for a gender neutral named award in a gender specific game.

I'm still furious that they changed to a 5-day working week. And as for 'long weekend'. Don't get me started!

Who was “them of the match” for themchester city today?

Get your point though, if it’s a mixed sex game then “man of the match” should be “player of the match”

Surely it’s not sexist when “man of the match” can only be a man?
What if one of the men identifies as a woman?

🎶 Shoreham people we are here whoah woah,
Form meaning relationships with other people of the area in which you live,
Drink your ethical soya latte,
Whooho 🎶

What if one of the men identifies as a woman?
Identifying as a women means you are acting as, and doing things typically done by women. So that day they'd be playing in a women's match and could win Woman of the Match. That helps their identification as a woman.

I hate all this inclusive woke crap but then I’m in the older generation.
I just have to get used to all this rubbish.
It’s funny though when these woke types say we shouldn’t be angry. These wokey people are the angriest self obsessed tossers you can ever meet.
1. You have no idea what woke means
2. You're the angriest person on here
3. Stop randomly throwing around words you read in your angry right-wing paper.

What if one of the men identifies as a woman?
But not one player does - so in effect what’s been discovered here is a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist

Also, if a male player identifies as a woman, surely part of this would be to represent a women’s team, or visa versa

I genuinely don’t care what people want to identify as, but we do seem to be finding stuff that isn’t a problem to deal with.

I say we get rid of everything and resort to just making various animal noises. So instead of "man on" the players/fans should caw or something.

Each club are free to allocate their own preferred animals to a specific call.

This is a great idea. I nominate the mating call of the Ocelot. It takes a while to master and several packets of strepsils but once achieved is really rather comforting.

  • other throat lozenges are available.
  • make sure no male ocelots are present whilst practicing, my arse and shoulders are still a bit of a mess.

What if one of the men identifies as a woman?
What if one of those men winning the award identifies as a man? Shouldn’t he have the right as well that his gender is not airbrushed?

This does seem to be a fuss created for the sake of it by renaming man with player.

Has anyone ever complained about it being referred to as man of the match in any men’s competition where a winner has identified as anything other than a man?

I don’t believe that there is a precedent within English football for women or other genders to play in the men’s professional game. So I don’t understand how this could even remotely become an issue

The bigger issue could be that nobody apart from men identifying as men can plan in men’s competitions

I genuinely don’t care what people want to identify as, but we do seem to be finding stuff that isn’t a problem to deal with.

Firstly, we don’t know that no player identifies as a woman. Across 92 teams (and more if we count non-league), each with a squad of ~25, it’s quite possible that at least one person might not identify as a man. They might feel unable to say anything about ‘MOTM’, especially if they see the type of response seen on this thread.

Second, if someone born as a man identifies as a woman later in life, they can’t just choose to play for a women’s team. They wouldn’t qualify. I’m aware that some people will say “That’s the point”, but it isn’t: the point is that they don’t want to be called a ‘man’ but should still be able to play football.

Thirdly, it’s not just identifying as a woman. Some people don’t want to identify as a man or a woman. This is their choice and doesn’t really affect other people. You don’t necessarily need to understand why they feel like that, but it’s maybe a good idea to accept that some people have different thoughts and emotions to you.

Nobody is making you say ‘person of the match’ or ‘person on’. Some other people have chosen to use that phrase to be more inclusive, and that’s fine. Personally, I’ll keep saying ‘man on’ when I’m playing, and I’ll ask my dad who his man of the match was after a United game. But I’m not going to worry if someone else chooses to say ‘person of the match’, especially if it does help someone somewhere feel more included.

Could Vegans make these on - pitch animal noises or is there another system we'll need to adopt ?
