Mrs Ken bought me a couple of tickets for this event on the 22nd January 2026 at Sheffield City Hall

An Evening With Sheffield United Legends

On the panel I understand there will be Paddy Kenny, Tony Currie, Brian Deane, Billy Sharp, and Chris Morgan

Anyone else going to this one?
Appreciate it's the night after the league game at St Mary's - but I'm going to give that one a miss, anyway.

Hope they have the undersoil heating swithced on :o

Great night tonight. A really good turnout of fans at the City Hall and fascinating contributions from all of the Legends.
It was really sad to learn of how a huge presence like Sharpy was lied to and shabbily let down by the club which led to him leaving.
Some really entertaining funny spots too, particularly with Paddy and Morgs (oh for a leader like him in the current team).
Deano will always have a special place in our support for the immense contribution he (and Tony Agana) made in the 90's.
As for TC, he's not everyone's cup of tea but he went higher in my estimation this evening by calling out Don Revie for the fraud he was and for basically calling time on the England careers of so many great players. Thanks for the great memories all five of you.

Sharp leaving after promotion was the perfect way to bring his Blades career to an end. If he stayed another season and had a year of getting beat in the prem and ending it with relegation, it wouldn’t have been a fitting end.

Apparently he was told numerous times that he was staying, and wasn't told otherwise until around the day of the promotion parade

Not disagreeing with your comments at all. It's the way he was led up the garden path that sticks in the throat.

He said he was assured on at least three or four occasions that a years extension to his contract had been agreed. Then, on the day of the promotion parade, Sharpy, along with Enda Stevens, were told their extensions wouldn't be honoured and they were no longer wanted by the club.

It was quite a shitty trick to treat anyone like that, not just Billy Sharp.

fully agree at that, it was shocking at how it was dealt with & they shouldnt have strung him along. it tallies that id heard that hecky wanted him for 1 more year but not as a player

As much as I hugely respect Morgs, I disagree that Sharp should’ve had another year. In the Premier League you need more than heart & effort.

I only disagree because we’ve seen countless sportspeople stay too long often the last to realise they’re no longer at the required level. Bolt carrying on til 2017 or Federer carrying on til 2022

The brutal reality is this would we rather Sharp leave lifting a trophy in May, or leave on loan in January after two sub appearances, then be released after relegation

Plenty of funny moments, Paddy Kenny does a good Warnock impersonation woven into anecdotes. He and Morgs shared the telling of one where they lost a game and Warnock was ranting at them while getting undressed for a shower. The rant appeared to end as Warnock went into the shower, only for him to reappear a minute later, naked, covered in shower gel and foam to start up again as he remembered something else he needed to get off his chest 🙂

Billy talked about the ghost goal at Villa and I hadn’t heard his version before. As we know, Oliver’s watch didn’t signal a goal at the time and as they came out after half time, Billy and others were still complaining to Oliver about the injustice when suddenly his watch pinged Goal. Billy then talked to Tyrone Mings (Villa skipper?) and Grealish, asking them to do the sporting thing and let us score, but they weren’t interested. As Trig Jnr (TY) pointed out, Bielsa had instructed his Leeds team to allow Villa to score unchallenged the previous season to right a wrong, but Villa didn’t share his sporting ethos.

Doesn't surprise me with a prick like Mings.

I'd love someone to write a book about the real goings on behind the scenes under Mcabe, the Prince and Wilder and lift the lid on it all.

Billy deserved much better. So do we.

But the problem is people have their own version of the truth.
Put them all under a lie detector test…..they’d all pass with flying colours whilst contradicting each others statements.

I’m pleased Billy wasn’t given a deal in the Premier league, it would have been really sad to watch him come on as sub and have literally zero effect…..that season he was struggling coming on as sub in the Championship so going up a level to the PL would have been a sad ending.

We are a professional club and shouldn’t make important financial decisions based on sentiment….players don’t show any loyalty….of course they put their families first. League 1 was his level back then…don’t think any Championship club would offer a contract.

The only issue where he might have a point is if he was promised to be fast tracked in the coaching team but even that could have turned into a sad look.
Didnt we already have ex striker Jack Lester on coaching staff, he was really popular with the players…so we didn’t really need another coach at the time.
