All our "partners" are at sea level?

Great idea though.

Get them up the highest mountain possible and "lose" a few on the way down. Cut the wage bill, claim some much needed insurance money and we won't have lost any value to the team. Good thinking Swiss.

Bastard, mouthful of chicken salad I've got to clean up now.

I think you've got to be at altitude for quite a long time to gain any benefit.

You then get a boost when you come down to sea level, but the effects soon wear off.

I lived in Nairobi (6,000 ft) for 13 years. When I returned to Blighty I was just as useless as ever at anything mildly athletic.

BB is right. It's all to do with increased red blood cells and thus, increased oxygen uptake and that effect doesn't last very long back at sea level.

Pregnancy has the same effect, which is why there was the scandal of East European gymnasts being made pregnant by their coaches just before major championships.

So perhaps a preseason training camp in Bolivia then straight back to the start of the season would have us hitting the ground running

Norwich City did a pre-season tour to Kenya in the late 70s or early 80s. I went to see them play the Kenya National side at the National Stadium. The ground was rock hard and the pitch was like a cabbage patch. Not sure if they benefitted from the experience.
