... that seems to elude us:

Kroupi was in Ligue 2 last season. Why can't we find him and his ilk?
The simple answer is we don’t have the embedded scouting infrastructure that the likes of Bournemouth and Brentford have spent over a decade developing.

We have also shown no inclination to put such an infrastructure in place. We also aren’t structured in the way those clubs are in term of delegation of responsibility we still give the manager a lot of input on signings

Because Wilder puts his mates in charge of scouting with the brief of;

a) must be British or have spent their entire career in the UK
b) good solid Championship pro
c) must be able to consume their own bodyweight in Peroni
d) a Bladey-Blade connection if at all possible

and round and round we go....

It's alluding us because we haven't seemingly got a scouting strategy like a club like Bournemouth.

I remember Wilder and Hecky both talking about the "Brentford or Brighton" models and them talking about how much money has been put into their organisation and networks. And what we could do to get in on that.

But aside from us changing our chief scout and our dabble with James Bord licensed to use AI very badly. Still feels like we are waiting for a real plan and structure.

Lots of fans talk about DOF and how we need one. For me the money needs to be more in making a better scouting team and structure.

If you swap B for 'must be 66 and oveweight' I'm in!

United are a billion years away from the Brentford/Brighton/Liverpool etc models. It's the football equivalent of hoping we'll learn alchemy in time for the transfer window opening. Leave the delusion to S6.

If you were taken in by the spiel by the new ownership and haven't worked out it was nonsense - that they aren't Tony Bloom or Mathew Benham - I have an excellent range of London Bridges with YOUR name on them going very cheap!

Get AI onit!
Feckinell we don't want artificial intelligence - that's worse than the little we already have.
Just need scouts with some knowledge of the game and eyes that work properly.
I mean , Gbiric ? Cannon for £10m ? Shackleton ? Chong ? McGuinness ? Tanga for £6m ?
And uncle tom cobblers an all.

My tongue may have been firmly in my cheek then.

Which one I will not say.

AI had nothing to do with United paying clubs Bord is involved in money for substandard players. Ask it the right questions, give it the right parameters and it will give you a list of possible targets to investigate. That is literally the start of the process for the more forward thinking teams

Crikey , don't tell me that's corrupt as well ?
Is there anything in football that's not ?
No , I thought not

And what about a ship called the Queen Mary - any of them in stock ?

Computers don't decide who to sign, they don't authorise payments, they don't investigate persinalities etc

Used properly, data will help you identify a group of players who might solve your specific issues. After that, it's people doing the work.

What United have done, is blamed ''AI' and used it as a excuse to refuse to do anything other than 'go with their gut'

Do they not use data already?

I don't think that's true to be honest. I'd be very surprised if that's the brief.

When your making the decisions but you're not very clever I guess you have to find something to blame or you're not lasting very long.
And dem Blades recruitment just exudes the feel of a bunch of "good ol' boys" having a nice life.

Of course they do !
Go and sign old whatsizname , he's always been a good laugh ,
Data ?
Of course , the figures here say that he can drink 10 pints and still remember the right words to the GCB ,
An' he loves gettin on the wrong side of the ref ,
An he's only had a couple of joint replacements
An he's a culture carrier
What else dya want ?
That's enough data to sink a battleship

I have no issue beyond value for money and a restricted target list when it comes to UK only as a plan. But it doesn't feel like Wilder values athletes. The team is too small, too weak, too slow. It lost Anel, Souza, Souttar from the strongest version of last season and come January, there was no attempt to upgrade the physical traits of the team at all.

Tidy and tactically disciplined isn't going to be enough

When was that confirmed?! 😮
When United signed players from the same pool with the same traits from the same country on a continuous basis.

United under Wilder have a type. It's served them pretty well. But it's not based on data. It's based on feel, intangibles and trusting that performances at certain clubs, under certain managers etc are indicative of the future 🤷

Players signed by Wilder since he replaced Hecky

Grbic
BBD
Holgate
Burrows
Cooper
Moore
O'Hare
Campbell
Shackleton
McCallum
Souttar
Clarke
Gilchrist
Choudhury
Holding
JRS
Bamford
Riedewald
Hoever
Phillips
Rothwell

1 player who'd not played in the English leagues. 2 players born outside the UK. Only Choudhury as a genuine plus athlete.

You are so right - our stature , strength , pace & athleticism (stamina & resistance to injury) is feckin pants.
But management don't appear to give a toss.
Old saying -
You can coach a footballer out of an intelligent athlete but
You can't make an athlete out of a short , weak , injury prone , footballer who lacks intelligence

Yup, spot on.

That evil Wilder who owns the club, won't put a proper structure in place, despite not checking whether our manager wants it or not.

I was pro Chris, until I read your fantastically perceptive post, but I want him out now.

By the way, who are COH and what are they supposed to do?
