Alleged Racist Chanting - BBC Radio Sheffield

The Bradford chairman wasn't at the game so why would the star ask for a quote off him , as we all know media in Sheffield like to beat us with a large stick .
As for the chant which was a town full of Isis .and that was the only chant ,it was some lads thinking they where making up a witty song ,trouble is the said Young lads are thick as pig shit .

As a club it's something that has never been a real problem to us blades we have always been multi cultural and proud .

Said Blade contacted the club, FURD, Kick it out etc. I can’t believe said Blade is being made the scapegoat here. The chanting was abhorrent and deserves to be reported. Well done Ramon Mohamed.

Sit centrally on the Kop and all I heard was "Town Full of ISIS" for about 5 seconds sang by about 15 morons in the top left (as you face the Kop) ...

I believe in balance whatever the subject. Capitalism or communism? Somewhere in between for me. Clapper or Slasher? Somewhere in between for me. Adkins the hero or a clown? Somewhere in between for me. Degrading or victimizing people based on skin colour, nationality, sexuality, gender or any other state that one is born to? Abhorrent. No in-betweens on that front.

But it has not been established that any remarks were intended to be degrading.

If they were then the rest follows, if they weren't then it doesn't. I think intent is important.

The guy is within his rights to report this but whoever investigates is within their rights to find Guilty or Not Guilty.

There has been no mention of the great number of our fans who supposedly told these people in no uncertain terms to shut the fuck up, that's great from our fans if you ask me, but no, lets concentrate on the handful of fans instead. I think the club could come out of this fairly well. Apologise for any upset caused by a very small minority of people in the ground and state something along the lines of they will do all in their power to root them out and take action. State that this is not something which happens at BDTBL, that they work tirelessly with "kick it out" and that they abhor any racial comments as do, clearly, the vast majority of Sheffield United supporters, many of who ensured that the chant was stopped immediately and no further racist remarks were heard thanks to their actions.

Fortunately the FA hasn't got a grudge against us over anything so I am sure they will treat this in fair a minded manner and not look to make an example out of us with huge fines or points deductions or stadium closures or anything like that..

I sit at the Kop end of the South Stand. I heard the ISIS chant from the Kop though very few were involved. Didn't hear owt else from any direction.

Firstly cheers for asking, genuinely.

Something like:

Fred is the manager of a local shop. He doesn't hire Asians because he thinks they are unreliable. Fred is racist.

Ted's best mate from their time in the forces is Naz. Naz identifies as Asian. Naz is a Bradford fan. Ted's shouting is taking the piss out of himself, Naz, Fred, and probably a few other things as well. Ted is not a racist.

This is not perfect but at least it tries to illustrate that there may be complexity.

Whatever the specifics, I don't think you can establish racism without establishing intent.

Whoever was shouting whatever they were shouting I think it's a complex issue and blanket assertions of racism are simplistic and ultimately possibly damaging.

An almost identical debate played out recently with regard to sexism and Professor Sir Tim Hunt(?). I think the consequences there were extremely serious.

You are having a remarkably grown up discussion about this very complex issue, which I applaud wholeheartedly. It usually descends into name-calling

In this example, although many frothing at the mouth types would label Fred as being racist, I don't think he would identify with that label at all. He would probably deny racism on the grounds that he's not employing an Asian person because he believes that they're unreliable, not because they're an Asian.

Well that was people chanting "Cooooutts" in praise of Paul Coutts, though how we are going to convince anyone that we would be chanting in praise of him after what people have said about him on here since he signed I am not sure.
