Alex Revell chooses Northampton over Blades

No because I wouldn't have signed him full stop.

a) - the fact we were in for a player of his quality and
b) - the fact that we couldn't compete with Northampton

Both rightly ring alarm bells.

It appears that the length of contract was a major factor, understandably seeing his age. That's no necessarily not being able to compete is it?

Good to see you've got a stick up your arse over us not signing a player you don't rate though :)

Don't see why contract length should have been a barrier.

You do realise we've just signed Duffy on a 2 year optional third.

Glad we haven't signed him. Luckily, the club is run badly enough that we missed out.

He's 32 and possibly only a back up. Whilst Duffy is 30 he's in the best form of his career I'd say.

I'm glad we've missed out as I thought it'd be a poor signing, but Wilder admitted we were in for him, so the fact is we've lost out to Northampton. Marvellous.

I think the reason we were in for him was as a Plan B or even Plan C maybe half time or more likely last 20 minutes and evn then only in desperation because Calvert-Lewin will get the nod when the game's in the bag.

The player knew that because our manager will have told him so, with a caveat that if he demanded a starting spot then he'd earn it. Player looks at Sharp, Done, McNulty, Adams and then asks around and Sammon absolutely bombed here, no brainer for him.

Thing about our manager is that he won't bullshit these lads, he'll be open and honest, you can tell.

Unfortunately a lot of the players that we may want to sign have probably witnessed at first hand, how toxic the atmosphere at Bramall lane can really be.

Some managers would never give more than a year to a guy over 30. We get springs to mind
Is that why we gave 2 with the option of a third year to Duffy then? End of next season we'll be waiting for his contract to run out.

Didn't seem so bad at the time Clough was handing out 2,3,4 year deals left right and centre either did it? Didn't stop it coming back to bite us on the backside.

Yeah right. Playing in front of 4,000 supporters with low expectations must be far more attractive than playing in front of 20,000 at the Lane.

In 20 days time Revell is 33.
2 years contract for a striker that age is not that sensible.

Fair point about the two year contract (if indeed that was a sticking point? - maybe, maybe not).

But worth remembering about Bristol City signing the 34 year-old Aaron Wilbraham two pre-seasons ago. On a one year contract admittedly, but he's still there, at 36 years old, having triggered a contract extension for another year.

Yeah we know all that. So why would a player choose Northampton over the mighty Blades.? (No lists please)
