i think both worrall and obrien will be on our wish list from forest if we could sell souza for say 8m think that would be enough to get those 2
Either that, if Forest do try and sign Souza (they look like they might lose quite a bit of their midfield), we lower the asking price for Souza on the condition that they chuck Worrall into that deal.

Luton no doubt have a Barkley shaped hole to fill soon.

They’ve smartly recruited but it will be interesting how their better effort will have been a platform for their players to move on.
Wouldn't surprise me if Doughty and Adebayo (maybe a few others as well) leave Luton this summer, especially Doughty as he could be a prime target for a team like Ipswich.

Possibly even the manager.

McKenna goes somewhere, then I’d expect Rob Edwards to be in the hat for Ipswich.

Who knows? Maybe Brighton themselves could go for him?

Maybe, I was a little surprised when I saw that De Zerbi said he was leaving Brighton as I thought he could have done more by staying.

Given that he was being linked with the Tottenham job last year, it wouldn't surprise me if Kompany left Burnley either, perhaps to a premier league job if it becomes available.

Preston's annual salary is reportedly around £10.5mil, which is around £202k per week.

Among a squad of 25 players that's approximately £8k per week, per player. Some will be on less and others more. Freddie Woodman is allegedly their top earner on £15k per week.

If Preston are offering Browne a significantly higher contract then it will be around £15k per week plus.

If we can't match that then we are really are overpaying these duds and have screwed ourselves, even if they've gotten relegation pay cut clauses.

Our average pay this season has been around £20k per week. If we're reducing our wage bill by half this summer then we really are searching the bottom of the barrel for recruitment, as that would leave Browne out of our price range.

We can't afford transfer fees, so that rules out the best players from League One on lower wages, and we seemingly can't compete with Preston for Browne.

This doesn't bode well.

We need to free up some wages to bring in better players, and instead we're wrapping up wages resigning the likes of Egan, McBurnie, Bogle and Osborn.

All speculation at the moment, but I'm far from optimistic about this summer.

Prestons offer would make him the best paid player in their history, so north of £15k by your calculations.

Compared to the last time out in the championship

A lot of our highest paid / longest serving players are gone or will be out of the door.

Fleck / Stevens / basham / JOC / sharp / berge / baldock / Wes / Sharp / Norwood

Will surprise no one when Anel goes. And Mcburnie / potentially Egan seeming

All of the above Would have been on reasonable or at least above average wages for the championship by virtue of PL Experiance or time served. (Even inclusive of relegation reductions )

Not that I think we will spend it, but there is certainly more flexibility in terms of what we have available in wages compared to the last time out. We were hampered by the LT contracts, aging big money earners were on last time out

think youll be surprised mate, remember the 19/20 team that finished 9th................ no big money offers came in.

Luton gave it a go, but even with 2 teams getting points deductions they still went down, Barkley tailed off big time
Adebayo maybe, but to who? Everton if the have to sell DCL, but they already have Beto - Brentford/Toney replacement, but honestly think like most players in the 3 relegated teams, going nowhere - Doherty, is Lutons Ben Osborn, runs a lot but is midtable championship at best

Leeds went down last season and kept Meslier, Firpo, Gnoto, Rutter, Summerville & Bamford - all better than any of the 3 relegated teams this year

I imagine Ipswich will be looking at the relegated sides for any potential bargains, I've always been impressed by Adebayo every time I've seen him.

Rinse and repeat this summer …… story of us until / unless we get new ownership. We can’t compete at top end Championship under The Prince.

So that's him and ayling two targets we have already lost out on.. good start to the huge rebuild we need 👏🏻👏🏻
A 32 year old right back released by Leeds and a 29 year old midfielder who has two top 10 finishes in the Championship in his career.

I’m sure they’re perfectly decent second tier players but they’re not worth crying about.

I agree not world beater signings but would have been solid enough additions to a squad that needs a hell of a lot of additions.

More concerning is that they were clearly two players we wanted and we lost out on, hopefully its not a common theme throughout the summer.

This takeover needs sorting one way or the other and very quickly.

Sure I have seen it reported on X (twitter) from a few accounts, maybe I have jumped the gun abit and took it as gospel that we were interested 🤷🏼‍♂️

Just concerned with the amount of work that needs doing and this takeover going on we could be left behind, hopefully I'm wrong and all is well 🤞🏻

well browne could have been the player wilder and knill went to see last game and stated the player didnt look interested and was pulled off maybe we lost our interest that day actually think ayling would have been a good signing on a short term contract

Sounds more like Boro are throwing daft money about to secure signings. Fair play to them but we’ve seen this before with WBA over paying for championship players considered gold and not getting close to promotion.
We have no reason to believe that we won’t be competitive on wages this season. We were last time, and we’ve been told we will be this.

On the player himself I like what I’ve seen but like Ayling he’s not going to lift you up to the highest levels in the division and there’s no resale value in him.

A good solid championship player, one of the better midfielders at Championship level and a player who has seemingly always done well against us. I would have been happy for SUFC to sign Browne but he certainly isn't one for anyone to get annoyed about as he ain't all that either. If he had been available for a reasonable financial package and on a sensible contract then it would make sense, but I suspect that he would be wanting a top heavy championship wage and bonus level as he is ooc and he and his agent would be angling for a life changing package at his age of 29 knowing that he isnt going to get this chance again in 3 years time.

There are better targets out there and I hope we are targeting them instead. We need a lot of players incoming this summer so they need to be value for money and we need to cute with the money.

A player I would like us to go for would be Swift at WBA. Not a shoe in for their side and he is very comfortable on the ball. WBA might also be agreeable to getting him off their wage bill due to financial constraints biting. If so, I'd offer the lad a reduced salary but over 2 years.

There are a few decent frees.

He was one of them.

We are unlikely to be paying fees.

So whilst those that would potentially join but don’t are unlikely to be overly upsetting, it does mean the list of players available in our price range is reducing.

Boro, if he goes there, have not two decent performers in him and Ayling. Meanwhile, we’ve so far got none.

Let’s see however how we look in August.

If Brown hasn’t done it at 29 at the top level he’s likely no more than a squad player next yet if we went up.

We will be left behind .... We always are ...

So, you believe we should have paid whatever it took to beat ‘Boro to his signing?
Given he’s never been able to drag Blackburn into a competitive position despite having really good players around him, it would be a big call to suggest he’d make the difference to us.
