"With no disrespect to any of those involved in the makeover, including local businessmen joining various parts of the club’s administration, it is hard to imagine there has ever been a club at this level with so many chiefs."

Not sure he needed the words "at this level" in there to be honest.
I have never known as many faceless wankers associated with this club whatever level we've been at.

.

We will never be successful until we have another "Derek Dooley" on board.
We do not need or want these business people on an ego trip as they have no football qualifications to bring to the club and that is what the club need on the board.
Surely we can find someone with the right background and footballing experience.
All we are doing is window dressing, not being disrespectful to those involved.

In my opinion it is time that Mr McCabe woke up to this fact because as things stand at present we are going nowhere.
As for the comments that the recruitment policy was jeopardised by Mr Clough that is nonsense as the powers that be decided the funding for the purchases.

Something sadly wrong at the lane and we need a footballing figure between the manager and the board.
UTB

I think we pine for the Dooley figure disingeniously just because it worked for us 25 years ago. I wouldn't trust Warnock to fulfill that role.

For me it's encouraging that Phipps has learned from previous mistakes by admitting that "we need to improve what we do behind the scenes".
The boardroom changes could well be a step in the right direction:
I'm speculating that the thinking was that Brannigan was "Clough's guy" and was possibly overworked and a bit of a dinosaur.
His job appears to have been split into 3 separate roles with the key role of head of football operations handed to David Green.
Now David Green's lack of a football background has been strongly criticized on this board.
However it could be that what the Club needs is an open mind willing to embrace innovative thinking, logic and problem solving skills. When a club is failing this badly radical new idea's and out of the box thinking should be embraced.
Let us hope that this appointment does in fact make a difference and that the club can morph from being badly run for a decade or more into the type of club that it's peers wish to emulate.

Personally I'd prefer someone with a track record of success in a similar role. We don't need innovative thinking outside the box, we're not a media company, we're a football club and we need someone who knows how to run a football club.

Nor are we a property development company.

This is what was said when Brannigan arrived:
“We are delighted to see Mal come on board. He brings great football contacts and the rare combination in the game of operational, commercial and financial experience.”
Previously Mal held senior posts at Coventry City, Hull City and Everton.
In other words the club opted to go for "someone with a track record of success in a similar role".
Repeating past failure is not the way to future success.

But if you need a plumber and you get a bad one, you don't go out and get a bricklayer to fit your taps, you get a better plumber.
