along with Danny Wilson" according to Paul Walker on Radio Sheffield this morning.

It's becoming quite clear that even the media outlets don't have a clue, It's funny that RDM has been ruled out because of wage demands by the local media, when no official statement to the mass media has been made by himself or the club, like McClaren and others did for the West Sham job. Basically RS and The Stir seem to be following the rumours on the forums boards, rather than doing proper journo digging.
 
Boothroyd was sacked by Coventry for 'negative football' is that really what we are looking for? Or did he just submit his CV and KMC didn't have the heart to say no before an interview? ;)

Such an excellent job somehow Wilson and Boothroyd have been leaked. after Kev's leak of RDM last week I think people are at work to set our expectations a bit lower.

I dont think the board particularly need to manage expectations, the easiest, cheapest and most convenient option would be to appoint Pemberton.

Ironically, this is actually one of the more popular options.

I think the board are actually playing their cards very close to their chest and an uninformed media are simply speculating in an attempt to fill a void of knowledge.
 
Paul Ince has come in from 40/1 yesterday to 9/1 this morning........
 



I genuinely don't know I'd prefer, but if pushed, I'd go
1) Ince
2) Wilson
3) Boothroyd]

If we go for the latter in particular, any slight sense I had about SUFC in the third tier will be gone. It will make an utter mockery of the decision to sack Adams.
 
I'd be happy with Ince but is suspect it may be due to a few quid batting around because of some 'ITK' posts kicking around other forums.

Everyone who I can usually rely on for insider information is saying the same... 'havent got a clue'.

I suspect the only men really 'ITK' on this one are the McCabes. When they have whittled down the candidates and start talking to people, it may leak. I get the impression we arent at that stage yet though.
 
I figured early on that Boothroyd may be in the running but since KM came out and descrbed the ideal candidate, the thought of a Boothroyd kind of flies in the face of what he was saying. He's not going to get attractive Pembo style football by appointing him.....I have nothing personal against Aidy, but considering his obvious preferred style of play why on earth has he been interviewed?!!!!
 
I'd love to hear Aidy's response to a competency based interview question such as:

"Using examples from your career to date, can you tell me how you have turned an outfit full of overpaid hoofers and promising youngsters into a finely honed footballing unit?"

"Errr..."

"When I was at Watford... err..."

"When I was at Colchester... ooh, sorry that was the other way round..."

"When I was at Coventry... err..."

"Fuck it - stop the other side scoring and nick one from a set-piece!"

I was unhappy to see us appoint Adams, and the same for Blackwell, but once they had the job I backed them. I'm not trying to paint myself as some beacon of righteousness or prescribing a way to support the club, I just feel being constantly negative and critical of the manager is neither productive nor worthwhile.

If Sheffield United hire that little spiv Boothroyd, however, the amount of effort and energy required to get behind him will be physically, emotionally, and spiritually exhausting. I'll spend my days sweating anxiously and will probably develop a serious drinking problem/turn to drugs. Before long, I'll have developed a noticeable nervous-twitch and each ball Chris Morgan smashes into the Sheffield sky will be a visual metaphor for my blood pressure. Everytime I say something like "there were signs today that Boothroyd with pull things together" I'll become increasingly self-loathing. It will probably be around the time I've been rendered chronically unemployable when we finally sack him, at which point i'll run in to the streets weeping and gesticulating to the heavens shouting 'its over'.

Please, Mr McCabe. For the sake of my own and many others' well-being, take the humanistic option and inform Aidy Boothroyd that he is not welcome around these parts.

Didn't Aidy get Watford promoted the season we went up? He also did a decent job at Colchester and had them chasing a play off spot I understand?

Not the greatest successes but not that bad. At Coventry he didn't do too well but I would prefer Boothroyd to Wilson and a few other names that have been thrown about.

I think its the style of play which is the problem, Boothroyds teams certainly dont play in a way which would complement our Academy.

He did indeed get Watford promoted - against all the odds. They didn't put up too much of a fight in the Prem, and the attached article at the end of his Colchester reign didn't really suggest he was inspiring much support there either.

COLCHESTER United fans will be no doubt be further polarised over manager Aidy Boothroyd today following a series of controversially honest statements from the U’s boss.

Following a spectacular end-of-season collapse, the Essex side are on the verge of throwing away what, for the best part of the season, had looked to be a nailed on top six finish.

But in a typically open and forthright press conference yesterday, Boothroyd refused to just simply say what any disgruntled supporters might want to hear. Revelations from the U’s boss included:

– An insistence that things ‘aren’t going wrong’;

– Admittance that he was ‘expecting’ this recent downturn in form;

– The claim that people ‘don’t understand’ a manager’s job;

– And that – despite his rolling contract – he will stay at the club ‘until he is told otherwise’.

Boothroyd’s physical, direct and ‘percentage’ brand of football already had fans’ opinions split long before a miserable run of form which has seen a return of just six points from the last available 33.

However, these latest statements will be sure to firmly split the rapidly developing ‘give him more time’ and ‘he’s not the man for the job’ camps.

“I don’t think it’s going wrong at all,” said Boothroyd, whose side host Tranmere in a must-win encounter tomorrow.

“I’ve been in worse runs of form than this. When you are in a position like this you look at the players and ask; ‘Are they putting a shift in?’ ‘Are they doing what you want them to do?’ ‘Is there still positivity in the dressing room?’ And the answer is that I think we have all those things in abundance.

“It’s really only a matter of time before we get back on a winning run.”

He added: “I know exactly why we have done what we have done, but the minute I start saying why then people will say ‘he’s got his excuses ready’.

“There are reasons why things have happened, but it’s not the time to start saying why just yet because we are still very much in a promotion fight.

“At the end of the season I will sit down and say it was because of this, this and this, but I don’t want to do that until it’s mathematically over. I will go into a lot more detail in five weeks’ time.”

The U’s boss continued: “I’ve not been surprised (by the recent downturn in form). I’ve been waiting for some things to happen and they have happened.

“Sometimes it’s possible to start too well. If you are in the top four for most of the season then teams tend to set up defensively at your place, while you become a scalp on your travels. That’s part of being successful.”

And when it was put to Boothroyd that fans might be questioning why certain remedies weren’t being undertaken now rather than at the end of the season, the U’s boss was bullish in his response.

He said: “That’s why there are so many sackings in football management, because not many people know what the job’s really about. Five of the boys are going to be new dads for instance but that’s the side of things people don’t see.

“We live in a microwave society where everything has got to be now. How many times has this club been promoted in its history?

“There are only so many hours in a day and to get a team physically, technically and tactically primed. It doesn’t just happen in two to three days, it takes months and months and months.

“There will be a lot more things I will be able to affect next season than I have been able to this season.

“Pre-season is the only time when you can spend some quality time with your players both on the training pitch and the classroom.”

And when quizzed about his own contract at the club, Boothroyd – who took over at the beginning of last September – added: “I’m here until I’m told different; I think I’m on a rolling contract – whatever that means.

“I’m thoroughly enjoying it and I’m looking forward to the next few games and whatever comes after that.”

Here's a similar set of choices.

1. Repeated swift kicks to the bollocks from a kung-fu master.
2. Being tasered in the bollocks by the L.A.P.D., not gentlemen normally known for their restraint.
3. Having your bollocks gnawed off by rats.

Any one of the three is guaranteed to be extremely painful. So which do you fancy?
