It feels more like VAR will suck the joy out of scoring a goal. The moment it goes in should be the release of joy but now everyone will be looking to see if it’s going to be ruled out. Goal line technology I’m happy with but leave the rest alone

any goal we score against most of the premier league teams will see all their tw#tty players running after the ref insisting he looks at it on VAR and then especially against the top 6 and West ham , will find any reason he can to disallow it!
Engs penalty last night imo is a example , personally didnt think it was a penalty and think the ref agreed but the ref was looking at it for so long on VAR its like she was trying to pursuade herself to change her mind and eventually did !

Refs get some right and some wrong all part of our great game for years. Now it's going to be spoilt by Var and at the decision is still down to another referee in the studio,crazy. Don't even get me started on this stupid new hand ball rule..

I don't agree. I think that it will have three effects, going in potentially opposite directions:

1. More penalties will be awarded for handball (and other minor stuff like shoving when waiting for corners). This will probably favour big teams, simply because they spend more time in the opposition box.

2. Controversial 'subjective' decisions will be overruled. These currently tend to happen for big teams, so the overruling element will favour the underdogs.

3. More goals will get ruled out, because of minor infringements in the build up. Big teams tend to score more goals, so the law of averages suggests that they will also end up getting more (in absolute terms) ruled out. This effectively makes it (slightly) more likely that small teams will manage to nick 0-0 draws against the bigger clubs.

It's hard to know which of these effects will outweigh the others, but I don't think it's guaranteed to help the big teams.

The interpretation of VAR will be in favour of the big teams, sides with backs to the wall in the last 10 minutes are going to have to defend perfectly and it still may not be enough.
If we're defending a point at man u or somewhere with the crowd and their players screaming for VAR every time they get near the penalty area the chances of holding on are a slim.
