All of our main CBs absolutely devoured the aerial stuff in the Champ. Not sure why anyone would think they won't cope with it.

If Egan is here, he's more than capable, in fact most of the squad are despite this season capable of being part of a successful Championship promotion push.

Keepers: feel fine, if any one too many. (Admittedly Moore's been out for the season which is why Wes was signed)

Defence: Depends on if new manager wants to change anything. If so than a reshuffle needed. But Wingback/fullbacks feel covered with Bogle, Baldock, Stevens, Lowe, RND. (Baldock and Bogle could be targets for some teams I feel)

Midfield: Depends on Berge but we know this is an area to look at. Again depends on new managers way of playing. We may see some wingers come in instead if a formation change is made. If not this is certainly an area in need of looking at. Fleck and Norwood are good experienced players here. Fleck back to his best is more than capable.

Strikers: People may laugh at me for this but in the Championship we have a wealth of options presently. They probably all won't be here come end of Sept. But in Sharp and McGoldrick two experienced players who are worth their weight and leadership. Both can score goals at this level. McBurnie and Brewster have done it before too. Jebbison new on the scene. Mousset if fit could be very good.

Thing is this is all on paper, and looking at past seasons form's and performances of course. Or in the case of a few potential. But there's alot to work with there if a new manager can get them going.

Someone wrote:" we could get up with the same squad".We need to get up with a plan in place,a manager who lays new foundations and that means no place for sentiment and goodbye to a few of the aging squad members. The style of football and a squad need to be preparing for the Premier league now. Forget how other teams play or how they set up. The new season starts in 6 days and hopefully a new manager preparing us for next season. Because some of these so called "Hoof" teams will be gunning for us and preparing to kick ass . UTB

The football in the Championship this season has been very average except for 3 or 4 at the top.

Players hoof it rather than head up and look to pass it to a midfield player who shows for the ball.

No matter what people think of Norwood and Fleck this season - they are way better than the greater majority in the championship - they at least will show and receive balls in midfield and then be able to move it on.

What some of our fans are also forgetting is numerous in the Championship will give us the respect a relegated Prem teams gets and a lot will drop off and not go toe to toe. This will play into our hands.

What we have got to do is have attitude and not feel sorry for ourselves getting relegated - aka: Norwich/Watford and possibly Bournemouth.

The key thing for me is to keep (one way or another) - Rammers, Bash, Egan and get JOC back.

Teams will find it very difficult (as they did 3 years) ago in scoring

We just need to hit the season running unlike the majority of other seasons, when we have traditionally started slowly.

I think Norwood/Fleck currently would be fine in the Championship, do well even. The problem is they aren't good enough for the PL. I'd prefer us to try and sign promising younger players with potential now, as a relegated soon to be Championship team, than try to do it if we were to get promoted where there's a greater premium placed on these players.

It's all pointing to evolution not revolution being the way forward. The standard is dire, that's a fact. We mustn't slip down to their level. Crowd will be important in that regards. The players have got to retain the spirit and desire to keep performance levels up. If we lose too much of the spine of the side then it will be difficult to battle through the championship slog of Saturday/Tuesday whatever it is. But at the same time we need to start introducing the athletic players who can perform at premier level.
Athletic successors to Didz/Fleck/Norwood/Bash/Enda, if we can promote from within ie RND/Jebbo etc it helps with the team spirit of not having to integrate new players into the team ethos.

Kind of. I think there is a gulf like there is in any division.

Something we all should be mindful of is that were back to the division where come August, 16 teams or so all think they have a chance of promotion.
Only 3 make it of course but often right up until the final few games anyone down to 10th or 11th can make it. What that shows is it's always very competitive.
Yeah you get your Watfords and Norwich's sometimes, but Bournemouth have been more in the mix with others.
Swansea, Stoke and Cardiff are teams who haven't yet bounced back. It won't be easy. But we shouldn't also downplay that we do have some players of quality of this league.

No match is ever a gimme.

That is the massive positive regards our team.
I reckon that with JOC back and remember we had injuries to Bash and Egan too.
Our defence is at least average PL standard. Remember we have a top goalie who is very young so will likely improve over the years.

I really believe teams in the Championship will struggle to score against us.
We just need to make sure we score a goal or 2 every game.
I also think the key is our start.
If we start well...confidence goes up and the positive momentum returns....really think the Everton match could prove to be a massive turning point within the club

I watched Luton v Rotherham the other week and it changed my views on Fleck/Norwood instantaneously. From thinking they were done, to thinking, jees, they're going to be in a class of their own in that League!

And as for David McGoldrick?!? It's not overstating the obvious when I claim - if he stays fit for 75%+ of our games next season, we walk that division...

Actually he is the one player i feel for, all these years to get to the PL. Plays brilliantly when he's there, if he was with City he'd be heralded as the new Silva. Its an insult he is back with the cloggers, so I wouldn't begrudge him if there was an offer to stay in the PL.

Don't suppose the Dingles supporters will be bothered what style of football they play, if they get promoted. Like one or two have said on here, lets not get carried away. The performance at Everton was what we have been calling for, but that's about the first time we have played anything like we did last season. The performance and that of young Jebbison has lifted our spirits, but a repeat of what we have usually served up this season, when we go to Newcastle will kick the legs from under us again.

If I'm being honest, I'd say the same for any of our 'experienced' players. Fleck, Norwood, Stevens, Basham, Baldock - all have worked their way up and it's be hard to begrudge them one last shot. They owe us nothing...

Games like that tend to seem better if you’re actually there. It’s seems frenetic and exciting but when you’re watching from the comfort of your armchair and used to watching the possession based football of the PL, it can appear to just be chaotic and dull.

yep - can agree with that.

the start is key, but I remember both Norwich and Watford didn't have tremendous starts, but Norwich got into the season relatively quickly and Watford had a brilliant 2nd half to the season just as we did when going up. I think we'll get into the season relatively quickly.

Based on what i have seen this season, we are much better than some of our fans think we are - but that is based on a weird season of COVID.

I genuinely believe we'll be back to our best IF we can keep key players. I'm quite prepared for Berge/Baldock/perhaps McB (back to Swansea if they go up?) to leave which could raise the £40m that the Prince is looking for without damaging the core team.

Steady on everybody slagging these playoffs. They are normally pretty grim anyway from what I recall. After a long Covid season , it must be especially difficult for everyone. I would not use them as judgement on how we will do next season.

Watched the game last night . For years we had a reputation of being a long ball team even though we werent , coming from the Bassett era. That game last night was loads worse.barnsley basically just kicking the ball up in the air anywhere down field.fucking rubbish.
My little lad who is 6 has played for his team ( under 8's) tonight and there was more football played in that game than there was in the match on TV last night.
