Agreed; he was arguably the most natural partner for Deano apart from Tony Agana, he scored some important goals especially the one against the Pigs at the Lane. Seem to remember a goal against Liverpool too? From memory it was quite short lived, was it injury, loss of form or a fallout with DB?
My recollection is that he didn't have much of a football brain. He was rapid but didn't always run into the right areas or anticipate where the ball was going to go. Not really good enough for the top division.I was only a kid at the time but always got the sense Bassett wasn’t convinced by him. Maybe didn’t think he was hard enough and often preferred Cork (such as the FA cup semi v the pigs). Personally, after Agana had gone, I always wanted to see the Deane/ Littlejohn partnership given a run.
I also thought Littlejohn was not bad playing off Flo. Remember the Anfield win when Littlejohn and Carr caused them all manner of problems with Flo scoring 2.
Quickest instance of his pace I witnessed was 2nd half in the playoff final when he sprinted back to make up for a right balls-up of his own making. His pace has helped rescue him over the years.[/QUOTE
I remember that incident very well. He must have sprinted back from the other 18 yrd box to make a telling challenge in his own box. I remember thinking that with that sort of pace he could go far in the modern game.
James Beattie's Lamborghini must have been faster? You've all got it wrong.
Billy Sharp.
150mph in his Porsche Panamera!

Forte looked fast when he first played for us.
