I’ve just watched a video compilation and he does these weird things:

-Passes forwards
-Takes on a man and passes forwards
-Gets in the box
-Can shoot

He’ll never fit in here.
How long ago was this video cause everything i saw was from about 6 years ago

2 years old

Some older footage admittedly. If he can still produce some of this for 60 mins a match then maybe there’s something to be had. Dunno. I’m in the sceptical camp on this one but trying to see some positives.

If we can get some McCall or speed out of him in the way Slav wants to play then i’d be more than happy.

If it’s Woodford or Hammond however….

either way it’s a low risk signing in an area we are short at

Adkins had his trusted leutenant Hammond, and SJ has his trusted leutenant Guendioura.

You will have seen this but i thought i would load it anyway.

I’m sold ont first 30 seconds, bullet into an empty net (admitted a long way away) and can celebrate like he’s just got the winner int World Cup.

If we get some in and he can be the onfield leader I’ll trust SJ unless he f*cks up and then it’s Mr Angry ont keyboard in 3 months

At the end of the day, our current midfield are playing with the energy of 35+ year olds. I'll wait to see him play before writing him off. Wasn't Gordon Cowans 37 when he run our midfiled brilliantly over 20 years ago?
McCall was 38 when we signed him and he was brilliant in 2002-03 season.

Agreed, but he was joining a promising midfield that needed a wise old head. We'd need Guedioura to prop up the entire midfield by himself!

I think what is concerning is that it's been clear for all to see for over a year we need new midfielders and some youth/energy yet we have failed to identify/sign any. We are now looking at stop gap players that are even older than the ones we have!

I do wonder what is happening with the recruitment team? Either they are useless or we have no money. There is no other explanation why we have signed noone in 12 months since Brewster (before Davies came in)

Agree with that analysis mate.

For two consecutive seasons our pre-season recruitment has been woeful if nonexistent. At precisely the time we should be looking to strengthen and improve we've done the opposite of an ambitious club. Far too much blame is put at Wilder's door regarding this. We're all aware that our wage structure is not going to attract the type of player who will help push this club forward, and many of Wilder's recommendations were not backed by the board. So could it be that CW became vexed and tired of the lack of ambition he found at Board level?

I'd love to know the Prince's thoughts on how he intends to take this club forward. Could it be he's out of his depth? And the not insignificant question of parachute payments seems to have been swept under the carpet when funds for new recruits is raised, so surely Sav has funds available to purchase a better quality of player?
Or are we expected to watch a depressing merry-go-round of short term managers come and go, becoming frustrated at the lack of ambition that our Board has?

If he's on a free and relatively cheap in wages then give him a try.
I have no idea how old the footage is but he did more forward passes in that video than our current midfield has done in the last 18 months.

It may even just be a 6 month contract until January where we possibly could go back in for Vieira

Suppose with Vieira breaking down,Slav sees it as an alternative and quick solution
This. It’s hardly a signing to set the pulses racing but if it’s someone who’s going to install the manages mentality for 4 months and it’s a minimal fee then I wouldn’t lose my shit.
Lets be honest it’s the other signings which are going to decide how we do this year and no matter how much off the pace he is he’ll be an improvement on what we’ve seen from Fleck and Norwood so far this season.
I think he’s there to break the old mentality and install what Slav wants. If it’s feck all cost, cover Incase other deals don’t happen, then it makes sense, if it’s not then clearly it’s a concern.
I think we’ll see two other starters coming in personally and I reckon we’ll be staying in touch with Ronaldo as he recovers and he’s getting cheaper all the time.

The problem may be higher up than the recruitment team under Mitchell. Stories of SJ submitting lists weeks ago yet we are still at the enquiry stage for a number of players with 9 days to go.

Bettis and his side kick Shieber have to be called into question if we don't get players in. The latter being part of the McCabe structure that failed at the fax machine and didn't get Devante Cole over the line. Even then they may be being held back by the lawyer whose acting chairman and PA. Did we have to wait until Ramsdale was sold before there was any more movement? Are there constraints on how much we can pay out on even loans? Why have we wasted time on Diallo when its clear he wants to play in the EPL.

The fact we are now being linked with players we have no hope of getting such as Armstrong and Christie suggests a lack of co-ordination and possible interference from non football people. Oh for a Derek Dooley style Director of Football.

Who is actually making decisions, does the transfer committee still exist? The failed experiment of trying to spin plates across 5 clubs is coming home to roost and unless there is drastic action this week all the good work of the last 5 seasons at SUFC will begin to unravel.

The fact that we as a fan base are reluctantly accepting a 35 year old ex bottom half championship player tells me all I need to know about how love and loyalty works. Many a time we have took the piss out of similar profile signings at other clubs and so deep down we all know that signing a player for a stop gap isn’t like signing a player to drive standards forward. That is disappointing.

Secondly if we are serious about mounting any promotion effort via playoffs, we shouldn’t be signing players to simply “compete” with some of the underperforming and passed it players at this club, what we should be doing is acquiring players that could compete with the players of our rivals.

How this season ends is rather simple in my eyes, we finish mid to lower half of the table, lose Berge in the summer to support wages and a reduction in parachute payment, try and fail to offload players are now stuck with a ageing team and club that is becoming increasingly desperate to sign players that have been there and done it on the cheap. Sounds very familiar to me.

Scouting shouldn’t be a problem at this club, from 2019 we have had the tools to look at a range of different talent across a wide variety of nations. I don’t know much about a lot, but what I do know is affordable talent that would transform our team is out there, I’ve seen it. The problem is the ideology and possibly training needs of the ones in the positions to effect change, and, unfortunately, without a paradigm shift that includes new systems of work/approaches we are shopping in a market that we feel comfortable in, and thus losing ground. Being brave shouldn’t just happen on the pitch.

It is not the fault of our owner, Steve Bettis and the manager that the transfer market is slow. Yes, other clubs have made their signings but I believe our targets are higher profile and PL clubs dont announce their 25 player squad until after next weekends fixtures. Last season the deadline for naming the PL 25 man squad was three weeks before the EFL transfer deadline but they have changed it back to the same day as when the transfer window shuts

Looks like he has reach and can cross/pass with both legs so I'd like to see him doing stuff on the video in our midfield. The idea of 35y old free signing replacing our current starting midfielders might give them a wakeup call to do more or something different.

IMO, Silent Blade we’re shopping in a market in which we are comfortable, despite the tools we have to do more. Unfortunately it’s crammed pack full of other clubs with similar needs, enquiries on players going in at the eleventh hour doesn’t help. Back of the queue.

Come on - Let’s be fair to the recruitment team.

We have been heavily linked to the likes of diallo and garner etc. So it’s not like we are building our squad purely from rejects approaching pensionable age. We have brought in Davies already which should be a good signing and one of the right level.

it’s a different question of wether we have the competence to actually complete the deals we fancy but let’s not suggest it’s purely bargain basement signings and nothing else.

wilder build a squad with huge gaps at centre mid, attacking mid/forwards and centreback. We are having to rectify that and replace bodies that have left (lundstram, jags, Bryan etc etc.) it’s not all going to be first choice players is it.
