And Norwood at Millwall. When in the league?
With this chap watching from the stand he must be signing this week.
Yes he's getting on a bit ! We need a leader who understands what SJ is all about .
2 down 3or 4 needed still ! That will be difficult with just a week to go.
SJ cant really be blamed for what's happened I just think he should have kept the 5 at the back until he gets the players in who will make things happen the way he wants.
Prince is keeping his money in his pocket it seems which means not a lot will change.
Will SJ tolerate this or walk ?

What type of midfielder is he?
Defensive, box to box, attacking?

And please, don't just reply 'a shit one'
because we need to give him a chance.

Can play all them roles,or rather he could, whether age caught him up who knows.

Don't see why there's so many cry babies on this thread, another experienced head won't be on too much, knows Slavs methods and won't need to be acclimated to the system. It's not like we are signing him to replace Sander is it? Fleck and Norwood have been FAR too complacent for 18 months so he adds competition and hopefully gets them back on their toes!

I have a feeling that many of our players won't particularly care losing their place in this team, they still get paid at the end of the week. On the bench when we're losing they avoid the abuse and become our best players because they aren't playing.

It is not the fault of our owner, Steve Bettis and the manager that the transfer market is slow. Yes, other clubs have made their signings but I believe our targets are higher profile and PL clubs dont announce their 25 player squad until after next weekends fixtures. Last season the deadline for naming the PL 25 man squad was three weeks before the EFL transfer deadline but they have changed it back to the same day as when the transfer window shuts

What makes you think our targets are higher profile? Have you heard something?

Everyone knows the rules and dates and we have had a long time to act. It is bizarre why we have not tried or been able to improve a squad that is clearly need in huge strengthening. The club should have seen for over a year we needed to improve our midfield in particular yet focused for a month on a player that was not fit and had not played for a long time. The fact we are scrambling around to sign 5 players (that the manager says we need) in just over a week means we may overpay and/or be competing with others that will usurp us for the better players. I think we would have been a more attractive proposition for players and EPL clubs in the summer too.

As you say other clubs have signed players and the rules are clear. So why haven't we especially after such a disastrous season when it was clear things needed changing?

I would say it's entirely the fault of our club why we have failed not to sign anyone.

When he was good he was a big powerful skilful centremid. But he isn’t good anymore and he’s not the jake Wright type brought in for leadership qualities he’s always been temperamental and prone to throwing the toys out of the pram. I genuinely can’t see the logic in this one at all

Not heard anything, just looking at the threads in the rumours section. The Ramsdale transfer has dragged on longer than we have liked. It looks like that there are incomings soon especially with the rumours about Jokanovic prepared to sell Brewster, Burke, Slater and Smith. Lets see what our squad looks like on Sept 1st. ATM, you have no right to say we have handled this window badly and I have no rights to say that we are bringing in good players.

How do you know he's no good? Not played in England for 2 years. You an Al Gharafa season ticket holder?
The logic is clear as I put earlier, but that wouldn't suit your negative ramblings on every post you make.

Negative? I’m normally very upbeat on most players. If he was a player who’d been a leader at previous clubs I could see the logic despite his age but he’s had some fairly well publicised bust ups throughout his career and was very bad at forest before going to Saudi.

If he helps us steady the ship and get us back on a decent bit of form then I'd be happy with this signing. End of the day we need reinforcements in midfield so this guy might be a good place to start.like
Like you say let's hope he steadies the ship, not rock it, last thing we need right now is Dean Hammond mark 2
If he can read the game he might not need to do the headless chicken routine, if he installs a bit of confidence, reassurance to what is a mentally fragile defence good for him.
It's a time for stand up and be counted, if he shows that from now till the new year he'll have done a job

True. This signing could go either way. Hopefully it will work out. On another note his experience can be helpful to the younger midfielders helping them learn aspects of the game.

Is it heresy if I suggest Speed was yet another high wage, ageing, vanity signing in the midst of an old, stodgy team. We don’t want to head that way again…

Clearly a decent player even at that age, but we needed legs then, and we need them now.
As long as he has 2 of them he'll be better than Norwood and fleck

I can’t give the recruitment team any credit at this point in time and won’t until I see legitimate signs of improvement. Bladeinleeds.

Being heavily linked with players days before the transfer window closes, doesn’t help SJ in anyway, nor the rest of the lads. The squad is currently in need of building, and the only serious player incoming after Davies (a year late, for a system SJ no longer wanted to play) is a 35 Year old free agent midfielder who has a questionable attitude. I never suggested “bargain basement” players, and to that end it seems rather like a Freudian slip.

Wilder is old news, he wasn’t the only one building the squad. It’s been time to improve the balance of the squad for a year’ all parties involved in recruitment were aware. Tracking player after player for a year or two to lose out on them doesn’t cut the mustard and highlights a failure in relation to decision making and a backup plan ready to go.

no, I agree. We really need to see that they have their act together and can actually sign some of these players before I slap them on the back.

I’m just saying we can’t use this signing - presumable one Slav fancies - to suggest this is all they are looking at. we have seemingly set some ambitious targets we are aiming to sign. Though the proof will be in the pudding in just over a weeks time.

squad planning has to be a focus though. We’ve rewarded players handsomely for the success but are stuck with a squad that about 70% of whom are earning much more than anyone else will be willing to pay them. It’s going to be hard to move some on until their contract runs down further. Just look at the ludicrous long term extension Leon got, we couldn’t give him away in the end. It’s going to be the same for Norwood and fleck etc - and is something we need to be mindful of.

I think we both agree it’s time to back the manager and give him the resources. He’s taking a blunt knife to a gun fight as it stands

I think we have handled the window which is effectively really from the end of the season (mid May to August) terribly. We might bring a few in but I'm not sure that bringing in 5 players and probable starters at once in the final week (2 months after the new manager started and 2-3 weeks after the season started) was a clear planned strategy?

Do you honestly think its a deliberate plan to wait for EPL teams to submit squads before we make our moves? There is the Champ, LG 1/2 and the whole of the continent. We should have brought players in during the summer or a long time before the final week. Now we are scrambling around. It's appears a mess with no clear plan. Even the local journalists like Sutcliffe and Hemmingham have said as much today.

After the last 2 years recruitment I am not sure I have any confidence in us being able to identify players to improve us either sadly.

we should deffo have been more active by now.

In a perverse way Maybe we have aimed for too ambitious a set of targets. Maybe By aiming for diallo (and doesn’t look like we will get him) we have missing out on a player like Chong or garner who would have drastically improved us. I guess that’s a hard act to balance.

As you say it’s not a well thought out strategy, I’m by no means suggesting it is and other clubs have proved deals can be done. But we have all seen enough transfer windows go by to know that clubs delay and delay until the end of the window - it’s probably not our end holding things up. Everyone is looking to squeeze the last few pennies out of deals, players are holding out for the best offers. Same with us and Jebbo, by the sound of things. The brinksmanship on deals means thinks might not be done for a while yet

we will now for sure in the next week or so if everything falls into place and we get rhe 5 or so Slav wants and needs or if we’ve royally fucked it.

I do just hope we’ve remember quarantine etc if trying to get players over for medicals and the like. The logistics will make deals harder if we try and do them on the 31st

We’ve known we were down since January. I was on board with not strengthening during the JTW, but thought we’d sort the new manager out early doors (we didn’t, it dragged on) and get busy making some moves. With our comparatively financial muscle with parachute payments we ought to be ahead of our competition. Doesn’t feel like that.

There’s been a few alarm bells over the summer; Blessin being chased despite never being deliverable, Jokanovic appointment taking an age, pre-season being a mess, the whole Viera affair seeming a bit shambolic.

I’d love to see 4 or 5 quality additions in, but being linked to a player who wasn’t good enough for a mediocre Forest side a season or two back doesn’t scream “we’re serious about promotion” to me.

i just think weve been caught on the hop with this transfer window lots on here me included thought that this squad would be good enough to finish in the top 6 and do really well obviously we know now thats not the case so all of a sudden were scrambling round for new recruits cant put my finger on why these players are underperforming but for some reason or another their not exactly busting a gut for our new manager worrying times 🤨
