Just a thought experiment, given the current set of players...

1) What will Adkins' team selection be for Old Trafford?

2) If he was still here, what would Clough's team selection be?

3) Which team would do better?

Adkins

Long

Brayford
McEverley
Collins
Edgar

Coutts
Hammond
Basham
Woolford

Baxter

Sharp

Clough

Howard

Brayford
McEverley
Edgar
Basham

Flynn
Coutts
Hammond
Reed
Woolford

Sammon

2-2 draw. 4 own goals

Similar teams, differently motivated. Clough was a cup king with the element of surprise. I think Adkin's team might just get tonked.

Clough played Hidgon, DDG and Connor DiMaio when we played against Preston, at Preston, last season. I think they would feature, probably Reed as well. Che Adams for sure.

Sean Barker & Terry Kennedy would be our Center Backs in a Clough team.
Rooney would not stand a chance against those two.

Adkins

-----------------Long

Brayford--Edgar--Collins--McEveley
------------Basham-Hammond
Adams------------Coutts----------Woolford

Clough

Freeman----Brayford---McEveley--Harris
-----------------Coutts--Basham
Flynn--------------Scougall---------Adams

Whatever team Adkins sends out, I feel MUFC will be able to cope with it pretty easily. Although Cloughies teams seemed to be set up with the sole intention not to get beat, the midfield tended to link up with the front players a lot quicker. Against QPR there was a fluidity and the counter attacking style that I've seldom seen from a Blades team..
Using the same group of players I feel Adkins has not played to certain players stengths. We are simply too pedestrian to offer any sort of threat to MU with our style.

The only way we can hurt Man United is by pace on the counter or set pieces. We're wank at set pieces so 2 of Done, Adams, JCR and Scougall have to play.

It could be Scougall's swansong.

To be honest, it all depends whether Manure can be arsed.

I think both managers would have picked similar teams but the problem NA has this year is that Tuesday is far more important in the grand scheme of things. I think we'll see starts for Scougall and Adams, maybe JCR which might not be a bad thing as at least they like to run at the opposition more than most in our squad but most of the team probably picks itself.

True, great performance but QPR were really poor that day; comprehensively outplayed by a L1 side. They were a PL side in name only, as subsequent events have shown.

As its their only realistic chance of a trophy this season, they should be arsed.
If they still be arsed, they are in the wrong business.
If they don't win, I suspect Van Gaal may well be gone. He will be gone if we win. And if we win 5-0 o_OI reckon the whole team will be on the transfer list.

No idea about LW he always played Murphy.
Never really gave Che a chance (couple of sub appearances) He didnt like JCR and I dont think Woolford would be anywhere near the team especially seen as clough didnt sign him.
