Adkins out.

It took Clough 14 games to get to 26 points last season and the Capital One cup had seen away victories against West Ham, Orient and MK Dons and by that point the knives were well and truly out. This despite his league results and FA Cup semi final the year before, which you would have thought built up a little bit of good will or a little bit of credit in the bank.

Here we are 19 games needed to hit the same 26 points, out of the cup before it got going and some are manfully defending the manager this time around based on something he did elsewhere?

Funny that.

I'm sticking by Adkins. He's been poor but he's inherited a mess. We can't keep changing managers. As long as we stay up and start building in summer, he needs another season.

And every pig fan in the land is hoping you get your wish. Another season of Adkins and we will be on our way to the Conference. He's lost it completely and has to go now before he does any more damage.

He won't see the season out now it's impossible to see him recovering from this performance.

I'm having my doubts about him, but we have to hold our nerve. Cocked up at the start of the season and is now paying the price, but lets see if he can slowly turn it around, needs more time.

He needs more time. Look where sacking managers has got us over the last 3 years!

Same players=same results!

Ship the majority out in Jan but mainly the summer. Give NA one more season and then judge him with his own squad because If he fails with a team that he's assembled then there's no excuse, he would have to go.

Can anyone suggest a manager that would make this cack perform week in week out? 'cos I can't!

UTB!

Any new manager will have the same problem as Adkins.

A lot of players in the final year of their contracts who don't give a toss.

sky sports news showing the goals , our defence looked like table football players waiting for someone to turn the handle

yes his motivational prowess seems to be on holiday somewhere
And you said we were going up and got carried away when we won 4 on the bounce !

Makes the sacking of Clough look more foolish every day.

indeed - Clough had his problems but this is what you get by changing.

Clough should have had another year - that is obvious now.

Changing Adkins now is an even worse situation than getting rid of Clough.

It's the players....................................4-5-1 squad that can't play anything else.

We are heading for a Charlton clear out - been obvious for weeks - why wait until the summer - the cull MUST start in January - pay some off who won't go - just PLEASE get rid and tell Adkins he has minimum 2 and a half years to turn it round.

Getting rid of Adkins is madness.

Keep the chin up fellas, as it can only get worse.

I was happy when Adkins got the job, now truly pissed off. If he comes out for his post match interview and say we/ they where shit and most will be gone 1st chance he gets, then he stays for another season to make his own team. If he comes out with the usual shite, and we all know what that his. Then he goes tonight as far as I'm concerned.

Seriously, I think all players should be banned from the training ground and The Lane until 8.00am Saturday and then all told to report to the training ground.

Take the 18 who you need to take to Barnsley and fuck the rest off home.

Make them realise what they have and how they are abusing it.

and just to add, I have a massive problem with Hammond.

Mr Adkins YOU are on serious dodgy ground if you think Sheff United fans will stand by and let you bring in Hammond full time in January.

If YOU think he will come in and we see him earning lets say 10K per week, then you are sadly mistaken.

That decision could cost you the fans loyalty - you still have it, but there are certain decisions that are in your hands that will lose you that loyalty very quickly - and Hammond is one of them.

Sorry but madness is keeping a failing manager. To have faith in something it has
to be backed up with reason, Adkins hasn't given anyone a single reason to believe in him since he walked through the door. Your argument is one for us to show blind faith and that, everything considered, would be real madness.

He's quickly taking us back to those dark days of Weir. After the cup and playoffs last season it didn't need much to move us up a notch - just a bit of this famous Adkins positivity.

Instead results are worse and performances no better than under Clough. Apart from Sharp his signings have been dire, and after 19 games he still doesn't seem to know his best XI.

And he might get a bit of goodwill off fans if he acknowledged the mess he's made so far, rather than patronising us with talk of Hammond's unseen genius.

This slump has come at a bad time for Adkins. The board will no doubt be wondering whether to back him in January if the best we can dream of is the playoffs.

To save themselves the sleepless nights, I reckon they should get rid now.

Not often I disagree with you Fulwood, but no mate, no.

"... tell Adkins he has minimum 2 and a half years to turn it round...."

So why does Adkins always try to force them into a 4-4-2. All our midfielders are suited to a three-man central midfield, but the manager uses them in a way that exposes their weaknesses. It's idiotic.

Sacking another manager would be stupid
So he'll be gone in the morning then.

The players at this club are a disgrace and they can all drop dead as far as I'm concerned.

Don't need to say anymore.

Yes you do. Adkins will sort it out ,but not overnight. If you want him out, who on earth do you think could motivate the squad that the Clough built? Genuine question. As 1889 says, maybe tongue in cheek, our manager has a good record regarding promotions. I would have hoped that the Prince would have dug a little deeper in his cash bag to resolve a dreadful situation FWIW the Saints supporters in my family think that we were fortunate to get Adkins.

We can't keep sacking managers but Nigel has to step up and become ruthless .....

He's always positive but to the point that he actually reinforces negative mind sets e.g. Keep in touch until Jan means we can afford to lose games.

He also shouldn't be afraid to berate performances in public without picking on individuals.

He needs to take a long look in the mirror tonight and make some changes immediately to be seen starting Barnsley away.

With what he has available it would be akin to changing the deck chairs on the Titanic

Apparently it's much more difficult to get promoted from this division with Sheffield United than it is with Scunthorpe.
Who knew?

Makes the sacking of Clough look more foolish every day.

I'd be very keen to see that season on season comparison data now. Adkins has taken a squad that made the play offs and the Capital One semi final, he's added his players to it and he's made it worse.

I don't understand how Clough continues to get the blame for that.

If Phipps, the Prince and McCabe are consistent, then Adkins has got to go. No doubt his smile and cheery, poetic ramblings and his endearing over positive personality are enough for some to ignore his failings when the truth is he's taken the team backwards, there's no getting away from it.

Here you go. No need for 'season-on-season comparison' any more. Clough was disastrously poor who hid his managerial failings with the odd cup game. Adkins is an utter clown who hasn't brought a single decent result to United. If Adkins' 'professional pride' doesn't make him walk away, the board should do the job for him. Be in no doubt, Adkins is taking us to the Fourth division.

Whilst I do think Adkins has some serious questions to be asked;

Why didn't you address the back four and GK as a priority? Being just one

I honestly feel that we need to be looking at the players and higher management first.

Adkins has one thing that sets him apart from the others; he has actually achieved success in his career (4 promotions) so he is proven.

The players and the board haven't.

Utter Shambles just Sack Him.
If you bought sky TVs at £50 / month and didn't like the programs would you tell them to cancel after the first month and pay £550 cancellation charge to get Virgin in?

We can't just keep hiring high profile managers and their army of back room staff then spending what money is avaiable on cancelling their contracts!

I hate to say this, but I just don't see a happy future for Adkins here (and I really, really hope I'm wrong!). This positivity management lark clearly isn't having the intended effect, on players, supporters, or anyone else at the club. We desperately need someone who can come in and shout/bang heads together/throw tea cups/get in the players' faces/etc, not a chance that is happening under Adkins, and worse still, he's never going to bring someone else in to fulfil that role for him.

His management style is the polar-opposite of what we require right now. I just don't see how he can turn this around.

Even more depressing is the thought that this team needs an entire rebuild, does anyone here honestly think Adkins is the man to do that? (based on his signings thus far).

I do hope it's not too late for Adkins to turn this around, but I fear for his future. When we played Colchester at home and had a similar performance j said at the time he needed to whip some players off and show them whose boss. Last nights half time show might be too little too late.

Nigel's solution?

Any player who is in a contract year and not performing should be payed up and asked to leave. This is how they play when they are playing for their future?

Find 11 players who at the very least give you 100% and go with it.
