He gives good interview does Adkins...'keep it out of my end, stick it in another's..., keep it private...'

Nice.

Liked the "erm, what's the word I'm looking for? ... come on, you've got to read my mind - look into my eyes" moment :D

To be reyt, I reckon Adkins might be asking exactly the same...
Unfortunately, Mr Adkins purchases this year does not fill me with any confidence whatsoever - apart from Sharp who is doing the business ( to be fair third division is about his level) Sammon, Woolford, Hammond, are not the answer !

Yeah, you'd expect Sharp to be playing as he is in L1, good on the bloke...as for the others, I'd say Woolford was Murphy's replacement within Adkin's budget ( nowt) after being rejected a new contract by Millwall.

Hammond is his pet, lord knows what we're paying but I'd guess it's nowhere near full whack, hence all the delay in getting him here... Good player but too old and slow...

Sammon? Weren't we getting him in even before Adkins arrived? ( another one at 'the right price')

It really doesn't bode well but has he actually bought anyone?

The line about getting players in at the end of January is very frustrating but at the same time expected. What i have to wonder though is what are the scouts actually doing behind the scenes to warrant not getting players in until the end of January, when what you tend to find are players getting more and more expensive as the window goes on?

The January window has never been moved, it's always been then and we have known about it for ages. The scouts should be well equipped for this time of year to make an assault and bring us better players in. They will be no doubt on a shedload of cash and should have us ready to get players in when that time arises, not on a specific date such as the end of January. We need players now to keep the momentum of our newly found feel good factor otherwise it could all go Pete Tong. I suppose only time will tell.

That is the first time this season where there were no boos at the end of a loss, lets keep it that way Blades, not the losing bit obviously but the bit where the fans can see enough from the players to suggest they didn't need booing. See, it's not hard is it lads:)

I presume there's no one coming in until we have made some capacity... and frankly it's hardly a given that there will be high demand for a lot of our players.

Good point, mate. I suppose we'll see, if or when we get rid of someone how long it takes to then get someone in.

"People working hard behind the scenes"

Jesus fucking Christ, here we go again.
What do you mean? As stated elsewhere we've rarely been idle in transfer windows. Or doesn't that count if signings aren't made at 5 to midnight in deadline day to along with the sky sports hype?

so this really means the following.

Thought we played great football in the first half = shit in 2nd half
Poor goals to concede = defence is shit
The players will be mortified when they look back at the defending = and laughing a joking as they don't give a shit
Third goal should never have happened. Should have stopped him way before = defended like a Sunday team
With the experience we have the third goal should have been snuffed out = as above
Thanks the support for sticking with players = arse licking fans
Togetherness demonstrated again today = :tumbleweed:
Spirit amongst the players, a desire to do well = as above
Took McEverley off because he had been booked and Maddison was a lively character = McEv is shit
Done injury not as bad as first feared = prob out for season
Size of the budget and squad needs to be addressed but important to improve too = no budget, big shit squad
Might be at the end of January before we make a move in the market, working hard behind the scenes = skint
Hopes to bring a couple in but can't guarantee it = no movement in Jan other than out
Some players may be out of contract at the end of the season but they are still having a go = shit players trying hard
Going to be an interesting month = expect some defeats
Keep it out at one end, stick it in on the other =
Trying to work out a style of football that is entertaining = with this load of shite
Why is it that so many posters have to ruin a decent post with cheap shots at mcevely. Any sane person at the match yesterday would confirm he wasn't shit. He's having a decent run, but people seem to ignore this.

They drag their feet after the opening of the window & fill us full of the usual shit about working hard behind the scenes blah blah blah, and then trot out the usual guff when we all express our disappointment at the end of it, but you are right Wiz, targets should be identified and we should be ready to move as soon as the window opens. Other teams seem to manage it. Of course following NA's interview yesterday I don't think many of us are expecting any exciting signings, only the excitement of moving on some of the, let's be diplomatic, lesser players.

Yes, i'd rather we get our buisness done early but do realise at the same time we will be governed by whether the other team will let said player leave or not and whether we have enough resources up until any of our players leave or not. I'm not overly optimistic on either but lets judge at the end of the window.

Your right mate, just these transfer windows turn some of us into cynical bastards, they may surprise us, we'll see.

Interesting that 'promotion now' was said twice - Adkins certainly thinks that this is achievable.
We have a manager who stole a promotion on the back of a 6th place finish with Scunthorpe.
We also have a team that has improved considerably in the last few weeks.
Adkins will not be thinking about next season until July!

We can't sign anyone til we offload some players but thats been obvious for ages. Adkins has one hand tied behind his back until some players can be shipped out and knowing us I doubt the club will be wanting to pay off any contracts early.

If we can ship out 3 or 4 players and bring in a centre back, a winger and maybe a striker that would be ideal. Like Adkins pretty much says in his interview its all easier said than done unfortunatly.

I cant remember there ever being a transfer window that I've been more bothered about outgoings than incomings.

Our squad size is frightening. We need rid of at least 10 players in the next month.

Alcock, Scougall, Howard or Long, Sammon, J Wallace, McFadzean, McGahey - these should be as minimum.

Then decisions need to be made on Freeman, Baxter, McNulty, JCR, Flynn, Kennedy, Diamio, DDG, Cuvelier - at least 3 of these aren't needed.

And to add, we as fans need to change our mindset on some players - even if we like the player or think they might come could, if they are not involved in the squad and Adkins doesn't rate them then we need to get them out.

And up front! A lot of people have been saying that we've got enough up front. No way. Once that useless lump Sammon had been pulled off it was Sharp and, er, Sharp. Briefly it seemed that NA thought that Baxter could do a 'like-for-like' i.e. suddenly become a domineering target man. Well, that was never going to work was it?

There's just been a good call on FH that said 'As soon as it was obvious that Done was injured, why wasn't McNulty recalled?' Why indeed.

Maybe he’s due back next week and if we called him back a week early we’d have to reimburse a loan fee?

Or maybe he’s finished at the club and there is a deal to make his move permanent already done?

Maybe Adkins considers Sammon, Baxter and Adams all more viable options?

An understatement there mate ....... I think we've got more chance of winning the FA Cup than offloading the majority of our ineffective players ......

We need a miracle !!

UTB & FTP

So, at the end of August, we were trying to bring Burn and Hammond in with the Murphy money ready to spend. We loan Hammond later in the day, haven't brought anyone else in, have loaned out Higdon, Alcock, McNulty, Kennedy etc. with McNulty being to the end of the season now and Alcock about to be made permanent yet we are now in a position of having to sell before we can buy?

Anyone feeling a little bit lied to again?

Not yet. Ask me 1st February.

Hammond didn't come in until late October and it wouldn't surprise me if we're paying most of the wages for the players loaned out.

Anyone can see we have too many players.

I think it's going to be a costly time for the blades.getting contracted players to move on is difficult, we may be able to get some out with some kind of pay off agreed with any prospective club and the player(agent).
The cost will come out of our player budget and if it's close to our max. it will need enlarging if we are to bring players in.This can be done in this division if the right procedure is followed. The key is to get players out Adkins can then strengthen, a very difficult position for him as he tries to do the business.

While we can enlarge the playing budget to allow more players to be brought in that requires those who can invest to be willing to do so. It seems entirely reasonable to me that they're not permitting any more signings when we have a squad double the size of many of our peers in this division.

It's really easy to bemoan the fact that the owners won't fund yet more signings but you have to accept that it's their hard earned money they'd be pissing up the wall.

We only have one scout? Yet we are losing money big time every year?

I'm not sure who the scouts are but surely a professional football club can't only have one?

I'm not saying all our money is being spent on scouts, that would be stupid, but other than players wages our money is going somewhere and it's not all on the academy either. We like giving good wages out so i see no different when our scouts are concerned as the club as a whole knew this needed improving after Cloughs' reign.
