I didn't get all the Sammon praise from Adkins and the interviewer, didn't do anything special from what I could see.
To be fair, the ref was dire. Just because referee's have always been shit it doesn't excuse this ones poor performance.100 years ago there was shit referees, 50 years ago there were shit referees, today there are shit referees, in 50 years time there will be shit referees, nothing will change. 2/3 of that interview spent on blaming the referee for our defeat today, your beginning to sound desperate Nigel. A defeat is a defeat no matter how you dress it up.

I'm a bit disappointed that the interviewer didn't ask about the lack of clear cut chances and the number of goals that we are conceeding; i would like to hear Adkins perspective on these issues.
This ref thing is a bit of a weird one from Adkins.
There were no controversial decisions to be made; no goals disallowed, no penalties not given, no blatant red cards not given.
What the ref did do was allow a few tackles go and be a bit inconsistent to which he pulled up. A soft ref basically.
Now, we (Millwall) had a team with an average age of 23/24 out there. The midfield were in their early 20s, three of which literally just out if the Millwall academy and with a handful of first team appearances between them.
As manager of the biggest club in the division, favourites for promotion, with a historically partisan home crowd behind his team numbering 19,000 Adkins perhaps should be asking why his players didn't take this opportunity - soft ref, young opposition team, especially in midfield, having to feel their way into the game as 4 first team colleagues were out injured.
And (perhaps we are stuck in a time warp at The Den) I just cannot imagine a Millwall crowd blaming defeat to a smaller club, with a young team, on a soft ref...we would have angry at our own team for not spotting this & not kicking the absolute shit out of the opposition...ala what the likes of Cripps, Kitchener, Terry Hurlock, Ben Thatcher, Mick McCarthy, Keith Stevens, Alex Rae, Pat van de Howe, Kevin Muscat and Alan Dunne have done over the years. Soon as any of those sensed a weak ref you feared for the opposition's shins!
I like Sheffield United, and when I lived in Sheffield felt it was far closer to what Millwall is (gritty, working class club where things aren't taken too seriously, but fools & imposters aren't suffered gladly either), as opposed to more snooty, pretentious & suburban Sheffield Wednesday...so am amazed you haven't taken this self prompting, blame deflecting slime ball (far better suited to managing a nothing southern club like Reading) to task!
No but he made two incorrect decisions in the run up to both Millwalls goals that is what he is bemoaning. But he never actually says the ref cost us the game.Adkins and Sharp spent too much time in their interviews bemoaning the referee for me. As other posters had mentioned he didn't refuse us a penalty or a goal, they were more physical it's not the first occasion and won't be the last with the current squad. They should concentrate and address the deficiencies we have poor defending, lack of a physical presence, goalkeeping and the lack of shots on the opponents goal that actually asks the goalie to make a save. Blaming NC for our problems in conceding goals is wearing thin, NA continues to play them and it was his choice to strengthen other areas in the squad rather than the areas that are still causing this stuttering start. It's not hindsight it was crying out to be addressed and it wasn't and still remains a major problem IMO
No it's not hindsight. Adkins himself said we weren't good enough for promotion, and that was before we sold Murphy.Adkins and Sharp spent too much time in their interviews bemoaning the referee for me. A number of posters said that if we don't spend again and strengthen all areas, we'd be the same as we were last season.
But we were told that wouldn't happen 'because of FFP' or because the owners aren't a bottomless pit. That we'd have to shift players out before we could bring new ones in. But we couldn't shift players out because most were injured.
So we're exactly where we thought we'd be. We don't have the resources available to bring in new players so NA has had to try to polish turds. Some have been polished, others are still turds.
Wherever NA had strengthened, we still have been weak elsewhere, because he hasn't been able bring enough players in. It's a bucket leaking with eleven holes and he's only got eight fingers and two thumbs.

Our strikers were Higdon and McNulty. We'd have probably been just as shit with a good defence and those two up front. The defence/goalkeeper were major problems last year, they without argument needed addressing before anything else, before Sharp/Woolford. NA chose not to, so as far as I can see the jury is still out on his recruitment so far IMO

The Referee was shocking, although to be fair to the guy he's the same Ref who didn't give that foul for Wednesday in midweek so he's not all bad. However the Ref wasn't responsible for any of our goals and wasn't the reason we lost.
Not sure I see Adams as being an out and out striker tbh. I forgot Done though, who might have been fit when we signed Sharp. We rarely keep a clean sheet so in reality we are having to score two per game to win or out score the opposition which we have failed to do in 8 games 5 defeats and a three draws. You forgot about Adams by the way.

With a better defence but poorer strike force we'd have conceded less but scored less and I think we'd have drawn quite a lot of games.
And NA's brought Edgar in to strengthen the defence and now Hammond to strengthen midfield so it's not like he's unaware of the problem or didn't try to do it earlier. I don't think you can blame him for not getting Hammond earlier or getting Burn. He obviously wanted them but the deals broke down late, probably too late to bring in alternatives. That could be down to the board haggling or it could just be bad luck.
Amazed 8 blades supporting this new member (who is a Millwall fan),he obviously has a grudge against Adkins as the vitriol he came out
with was over the top.Obviously a supporter of the dark arts of football naming some of the Millwall players who through the ages gave
Millwall a reputation for thuggery.
MI'll wall came here with a game plan which worked very well it is now quite obvious teams in this division are fully aware of our lack of physicality and aggression and Adkins is trying to remedy this from within and has failed. Having such a big squad is proving a big handicap.I think he has given everybody an opportunity (fit players withstanding) and a fair few have been found wanting.
I supported clough to the end but he left us with a squad totally bereft of what's needed to get out of this division (physicality and aggresion) thank you Mr clough!!..Adkins has made a few mistakes tactically and player selection wise so far but he had to give players there chance, many times already this season he has commented on winning personal battles on the pitch (I would say all defeats this season is down to that). It's not there so he has to bring it in he knows that without it we maybe will struggle into the play offs again (lottery).,He the club and fans want automatic and I wish him well with his recruitment and bailing out of players we don't want ,players under contract are not easy to shift as the club's who may take them will not pay the wages we do.Hopefully Burn will be one of the giants we will bring in.
Going back to Millwall if the new member is right with the age group of there team they obviously have some decent young players but if there quality is based on thuggery (the hammond incident was a career threatening challenge) they will just fall away.
It looks like the Jan window will be an interesting one.
In cloughs first season (half really)he built a really good side capable of tearing league one a new one
What the fuck went wrong ?
It's not the referees fault Adkins lacks the basics of football management.
What a pathetic excuse.
