What Adkns needs to realise with his silent start , being clever . We are more than fed up with his interviews . Pity you don't get points for positive , deluded , bull shit interviews , we would be top of the league.

I just don't like the smug bastard . Perhaps I would if we were performing and winning . Nothing has given me confidence that we will succeed next season . This bloke has not moved us forward but backwards . We have seen managers waste money in the past , just watch this one .

He has Reading written all over him .

Being positive is better management! If you read between the lines in his interviews you can usually figure out what is going on anyway.

He can do a couple of things to stop being fed up of journslists asking repetitive questions.

1- start producing winning consistent football
2- fuck off
It wasn't the repetitiveness he was fed up of.
Given a decent budget I'm certain he'll produce the former. Working with his hands tied in the transfer market and a squad that either won't play for him or flat out aren't good enough was never going to get us promotion.

Just touching on the fact that a few people have mentioned the academy, and it's continual funding/worth. With the recent unbeaten runs of the Under 21's and Under 18's, it looks like we may have a handful of good youngsters about to make a break through, I hope so at least.
Not always. I remember reading an article in the Star by Dave Bassett about youngsters who make the first tea, He recalled a very strong Wimbledon youth team that were winning a lot of games but none of the players were good enough to play in the 1st team. At another time there was a weak Wimledon youth team that conceded a lot of goals but Brian Gayle was part of that weak team and he had a long football career. We all know that a lot of highly talented young players who lack character to last long enough in the first team.

It annoys me when some in here are doing cartwheels that there were a lot of youngsters in our squad for the last game. I hope they will do well and bring success for us in climbing up the divisions in the next few years (I am doubtful about this) but we will have to wait and see if they do have the character to have a long career in our 1st team.

As our Academy is now in Category 2 I dont think we will have many young players who will eventually make it to the Premier League like we did between 2000 and 2011. I think we should concentrate more on strengthening our u21s squad rather than spending too much on the Academy teams between 9 and 18 years old because you can tell which players in the u21s have the attitude and character to go a long way rather than those aged between 9 and 18 (some child protection rules do not allow some coaching methods to toughen up the young players to make them more competitive)

I don't know why people get in a lather regarding interviews, all they are is something that they're made to do by the F.A and what they will tend to do is speak shite because they are made to do it. I liked Strachans' interviews because he gave stupid but normally straight answers to stupid and daft questions. I've listened to one of Adkins' interviews and took absolutely nothing from it.

Me neither.
Can you imagine if he came out and said "We couldn't bring anyone in January which basically fucked our chances of promotion and with how utterly shite we're playing we're probably going to limp through the rest of the season and finish mid table. Because we're shit".

Some on here would have an aneurism.

Like they did when Wilson folded his arms on the touch line too much.

I remember reading an article in the Star by Dave Bassett about youngsters who make the first tea,

Not sure they are made to do that these days as there could be H&S issues with the boiling water.

Nor do they sweep the Kop steps or clean senior players' boots.

Never been the same since we abolished National Service.

Angry of Tunbridge Wells

:D meant "team" not "tea"

I know, I was being just being a smart arse.

You made a very valid point about 'character'. Some of the young players simply wilt when surrounded by older pros and playing in front of a big crowd. IIRC, Kyle W had only played a handful of games and found himself playing at Wembley. He was one of our best players on the day and the big game thing never bothered him.

Character can't be taught and there have always been technically gifted kids who just never make it.

So the question becomes is that what he is really thinking? If so, he needs to carry on with what he's doing and we need to be patient.

Without investing in the academy the under 21s wouldn't really function as we would be relying on rejects from other clubs a policy we already use,
Brooks&Whiteman are two.,Jakielka & tongue are two more. If the club felt getting rid of the academy was right, we would do it As a first division club it really does blow a hole in our finances so McCabe& the
prince must feel the expense is justified, and I for one agree with that

Hasn't football moved on?

It's no longer about surviving having lumps kicked out of you by the local Miners Welfare.

I pay almost no attention to England but the interviews with Kane, Dier, and particularly Alli after the game I thought showed they'd got that result (2-0 down to 2-3 winners against Germany(!)) through fearlessness of youth, following a game plan, belief in the system, the manager, and themselves.

In part thanks to the changes in the Laws, which have minimised violence and intimidation, those lads have grown up watching and playing a different game - which is a lot more about skill, self-belief, intelligence even.

Football is evolving. Constantly. I'm of a generation that can't get my head around a German called Gomez. The young lads are just getting on with it. Good on em.

I think this is simplistic.

Adkins' constant positivity is designed to get the most out of the young players, to encourage them to express themselves, to give them freedom to try and maybe to fail initially, but that way they will learn and improve.

It will work with some.

Some will freeze on the big stage.

Some will thrive in a more antagonistic environment but generally positivity gets the best results.

It's not necessarily about character being taught but it is about providing a supportive environment in which character can grow rather than a test-it-to-destruction last-man-standing environment.

Im just going to tweet DCL, whiteman and Reedy and tell them to fuck off and look for another club. We don't need the likes of them.

Much better to save the money so we can give Hammond that lucrative 3 year deal.
and diego.. bloody troublemaker ;)

Strachan interviews were good if you didn't support the team he was manager of . He came over a twat . Adkins has a tendency to come over as a educated , school teacher twat .
Interviews give you the twat level or not of the board and manager of your football club.

sounds like a project manager to me.. (hopefully not insulted anyone!)

Football like life and society is evolving .

I grew up in the Spurs Jimmy Greaves , dirty Leeds , liverpool era , where teams either could play attractive football or put the boot in .

This was at its worst in the 70s , but do we miss defenders like Tommy Smith , Norman Hunter , Chopper Harris etc who could mix it but also play football .

Some premiership games I actually find boring , and are like a testimonial game . The other thing is you only have to breath on a opposition player and he goes down like he has been hit with a machine gun.

Italy v Chile 1962 World Cup took violence and intimidation to its extreme , but I do think football especially higher you go in the leagues is becoming sterile .

It is a different game today but don't let us forget Hoddle , Le Tissier , Greaves , Haynes , Currie , Bowles , Worthington Birchenall and even Hagan , who I think would still be great players to day , and wouldn't be kicked to death.

Is it a better game , better TV coverage .

In saying that lets get back to the good old days with our red and white stripes , with 2no no nonsense centre backs who can play football and mix it in league 1. We need to be a team who can play football but take no prisoners at the same time .

Agree with nearly all of that.

Are there any no nonsense centre backs?

Aren't they a bit like full backs who can actually defend?

Istm that if a full back can offer an attacking threat either by running with the ball, passing, overlapping, or a combination then all sorts of defensive limitations will be overlooked.

Glen Johnson (when he signed for Chelsea) was one of the new breed of non-defending defenders though there had been a few before him.

Most obvious old school centre half at the Lane this season Neill Collins I reckon.

New school centre backs: David Edgar - beard, exotically international, can probably speak French, looks to control and pass the ball, has no idea where Row Z is to put either a player or a ball there. Only ever seen with a bloody bandaged head at a Halloween costume party.

Don't think that may be the case, he is from Ontario, not Quebec, and only lived in Canada until he was 14, then went to live with his Grandma in Hebburn (Tyne and Wear, his parents are from the North East, Jarrow).
