Well I was talking to McCabe ten minutes ago and he says you're all cunts. He's buying Messi and Bale, getting Vardy on loan until next Christmas and Mourinho was looking in the Star at house prices down Heeley.

:)

I bet you never mentioned the Desso pitch!

That's a bit unrealistic..........Surely Mourinho can afford Dore or Fulwood.

For me the remainder of the season is important as to whether we retain Adkins. Not necessarily how many points we amass or how close we come to the play offs, but how we play. If we meekly surrender as we seem to have done in past games, It would be very tempting to get rid. But hopefully Walsall was a turning point. I also though we showed some potential v Southend and Crewe, though Millwall was dire.

for Adkins to stay we have to win 10 on the trot

v walsall won
the next 6 league games
3 play off games

Id accept he was ok then

Imo, Adkins has to be given the opportunity to clear out the players that are not up to the task of what's required to get out of this God forsaken division and be allowed to mould his own team

I just don't see the point of carrying on doing what we keep doing by sacking him. Surely allow him time to sort this mess out?

sort out what mess, it was his mess to sort
didnt Wigans manager have as long
didnt Burtons manager get as long
didnt Walsalls manager get as long
didnt barnsleys manager get less time

he was given carte blanche to fire and hire, he let players stay who if hed done some research hed have known were crap
he only had to ask ,surely
I used to manage depots around the country , found out who was holding back and got shut asap
harsh but neccesary, thats management , I asked around

Heard hed looked up a flat on Midhill Road on Zoopla 395 a month

Couldn't give a fuck what those wasters think. They should have pulled their fingers out a bit more for their beloved Clough if he was that good.

Except that post us just total invention.

"I *imagine* these player would say Adkins is useless."

Maybe we should hand out magic mushrooms and determine club policy based on the inspirational visions they induce.

Confirms really what some members on here have been saying about him shaking things up a lot behind the scenes. I hope he gets some real money to spend next season. If he does I'm confident of a good finish. Don't want to say promotion because there's a lot up in the air but hopefully.

Well it's only like the mind inducing drugs you must be on every time you roll out footage of Sammon V Blackpool away (nil nil) to prove he's a reincarnation of Brian Deane!

I assumed we did. It would explain our transfer policy, Jim's tweets and Adkins' interviews.

I know I’m going to regret engaging with you again but here goes.

Caldwell was appointed Wigan Manager in April. He had been around the club for years and knew it inside out. He had control of the retained list and has been backed to sign 20 players this season 2 of whom cost around £1million.

Burton have been on an upward trajectory for years. No mess for incoming managers to sort out, just a case of trying to keep the momentum going.

O Driscoll was sacked after 16 games. Dean Smith built the team over a number of years.

Lee Johnson was close to getting the sack when they lost 8 in a row but they stuck with him. But again, he was there late last season, could assess the squad, release the dross at the end of the season and build his own team.

“He was given carte blanche to fire and hire,”- No he wasn’t. No manager every has. They all have some restrictions, some more than others. You’ve had this explained to you many times and your continued statement can no longer be error so must be lies.

“he let players stay who if hed done some research hed have known were crap
he only had to ask ,surely”- If he’d taken that approach he would have probably binned Lovren, Schneiderlein, Lambert and Lallana when he was at Southampton too as they had been poor til he took the reigns. He couldn’t know for sure til he got to manage them himself. And many were injured at the start of the season so he still couldn’t assess them.

Mushrooms would explain why Sammon plays like he does. Every time he goes to head the ball it turns into a ball of fire or a flying saucer which freaks him out.

Don't be daft, if we did we'd have had conversations like:

"We need a forward - I think we should sign a hippopotamus."

"Right you are."
It all makes sense now. 'Let's sign a hippo and some pixies'. 'We should never have sold the leprechaun to Hull, we're doomed without some mythical little people in the team.'

A disappointing season, NA has underachieved, failure to secure a play-off spot. It will be interesting to see what happens to NA at the end of the season, and who if anyone will replace him.

It's not worked in the past getting rid too quickly. Don't think we should have sacked NC and I don't think we should sack NA, surely all managers need time to turn things round and it costs to terminate a contract, money that could be spent on improving the squad.

Fortunate enough to have had a very interesting (if a bit brief) conversation with one of our up and coming youngsters over easter. Very articulate lad who was refreshingly open about things.

Asked him about the inconsistency and he put that squarely down to the players. Was very complimentary about Adkins methods, his preparation and his long term plans. Said it had taken longer for them to adapt than it should have, but that the whole group (management and players) feel they are very close to it clicking, at which point he thinks we'll be VERY good.

Asked him about the playoffs also. Said they were all realistic about the chances of doing it, but that whilst its possible they have to keep beleiving it can be done.

If no promotion this year he absolutely thinks Adkins should stay. Understands our frustrations but disagrees with those calling for Adkins to go as he thinks Adkins can take us a long way and be here for a long time.

He really did change my opinion on things and I'm in a much more positive frame of mind for next season. I would say this season but I'm now sure we've left it too late.

The op comes as no surprise to me, although I'm not sure whether the up and coming youngster is in the first team squad yet?. Nigel Adkins has been the most important critique of the footballing setup at SUFC we've had in years. He's criticised and actively altered the distance between young players and the first team. There is now a fluid approach between the 18s, 21s and first team which just wasn't there before. This is in terms of tactical approach and style of play - but also attitude. If a kid performs well in training, they are exposed to the 21s, first team training or playing environment much more speedily. Our flourishing youngsters are progressing to higher age groups much more quickly,( see the average age of the under 21 and under 18 sides). The academy players are also exposed to the same level of sports science as the first team players - and have similar demands placed on them. Adkins observes training sessions etc at all levels of the club, so there is less of a sense of detachment or differing standards. His all seeing eye is everywhere: they cannot complain they don't have the right audience. If you go to watch the academy sides, you'll often see him there. Our academy - like any which is not category one affiliated - is now coming under attack by the footballing authorities. Adkins has asked the tough questions about its viability long term, and the prioritising of finances in light of damaging EPPP rules. We could talk about the scouting and transfer approach too - but that's for a different thread.

I was wondering how much the EPPP was affecting our academy. I'd read about us losing some kids to Man City but they were like U11s or something. Has he been asking to get us upgraded or telling them to put less money into it? It's interesting because he talks about using the academy to contribute a lot of players towards the first team playing squad.
If you could shed any light on that it would be greatly appreciated. I'd be interested in setting up a thread for scouting and transfer policy.
