mcabe sold half his shares a few years back just before he bought up shares in fernabache and central coast mariners which if i remember correctly was around the same time the prince and phipps bought shares in the club

Phipps owns shares? where is the evidence for that?

Most people were delighted with the appointment of Adkins and stated we were only a couple of signings away. We need 67 new players IMO.

only 67 , Jehovah ? I would get about 83 in this summer. Don't call me bloated though !

Something in danny's protest thread caught my eye, and it's something that has been echoed by quite a few people, and is hard to argue against based on track record at least:

So let's say he is the best manager that we could have got to get us out of the current division, and let's also assume that we're able to improve form a bit and get in, then win, the playoffs (big one, I know). Do the board then reassess who they want as manager? It sounds daft, but let's think about it - if a manager has been able to get multiple promotions out of the same division, he's been in that division a lot for a reason. At Scunthorpe he went straight back down the first time around, barely kept them up the second time around, and they went down after he went to Southampton. Credit where it's due, he did take Southampton up again, but barely lasted half a season in the Premier League and was replaced by a manager that was quickly able to stabilise them and secure safety, and then launch them into the top half the season after. He then ends up at Reading, again a club above our current level, which is pretty much a disaster.

Could it be the case that the third tier is the limit of where Adkins' managerial skills work? And if so, is there a huge risk of our board, should we get up, giving him too long on account of having got us up with possible fatal consequences? Now I'm on record as not being a fan of the appointment at the time, so it could just be me being biased against him, but based on eye tests from the games I've been to this season, I certainly get the feeling that this could be the case. We're lacking in pace and skill, both being able to use it and defend against it, which we might get away with here against weaker players but could get torn to shreds against higher quality strikers and easily shut down against more accomplished defences. He likes 4-4-2, this seems to leave us somewhat light in midfield even now, despite us having a PL centre mid on loan, if this is the case now, can we really hope to adapt our style to teams that may frequently use three centre mids, or at least two better ones than we have right now, or could hope to buy in? I've got a feeling that it's like the Peter Principle, and if Adkins does take us up, he should be on a very short leash, if not simply thanked for his efforts and we'll bring in someone with more tactical knowledge at the new levels. It wouldn't be unprecedented, at least overseas - after Klopp left Mainz, the new guy got them promoted in his first season and was sacked and replaced by Tuchel (now at Dortmund) before the very first game.

As I say, it'll all end up being moot as even our current best price of 7/1 for promotion looks short, but we don't need to just get up, we need to stay up, which is an entire different game altogether, and would NA be the guy to do that?

We got the best manager possible when sacking Clough and a manager I think the club have wanted since before Clough arrived.

Although have they the board spent most of the money on just this change alone? I would say yes and I think it has had an impact on the original transfer budget for this season. I assume had Clough been kept he would have had a bit more money to spend than Adkins has got. I could be wrong there though.

There is no point sacking managers when it's clear any the issues are either at player level (not good enough quality and need to be moved on) or at board level (rumoured disagreements about funds, FFP rules and the struggles to sign new players)

Adkins can only do what he can with the squad he has got and sadly he only seems to be able to offload players on loan rather than on a permanent basis. I hope we are not paying towards the wages of the players we have loaned out.

If you go on the thread about SUFC - A business there's a link to companies house. The annual return showing the shareholders is on that site. But then you'll have to check the company that owns the company that owns the club.

The latter bit of research I can understand, (having access to a credit safe account at CH for research purposes) but I hadn't seen that before. Will have a look. Thanks.

It's fucking confusing. (As you'll see from my posts on there).

I dont like sacking managers but still feel NA is the wrong man so we might aswell get rid ASAP and find someone who has some good things going for him other than a CV

That comment actually made me laugh.

So let's ignore tried and tested business principles and appoint a manager based on intuition.

We've done that in the past and it failed. The fans have been complaining that McCabe can't pick a manager so let's spend the cash and bring in the best.

We've finally shown ambition and brought in a top rated manager and it's not worked in the first 5 months.

So you are suggesting we spend loads of cash paying off his and his backroom staffs contracts, at massive expense and go back to the failed method of picking someone McCabe FEELS might be good because of his personality or the suit he wears etc.

It's madness...we have no choice but to stick with Adkins for at least 12 months.

I still think Adkins is the man that will get us promoted. It's really harsh to judge someone that is having to work with someone else's tools. Especially when those tools are crap.

Why do people keep trotting out this "someone else's tools" line? Four of Tuesday's starting XI were Adkins' signings and Woolford came off the bench.

Also, all six managers of the clubs above us, like Adkins, joined their clubs in 2015, with Sean O'Driscoll and Nigel Clough only taking over in December.

So everyone, to some extent, is using "someone else's tools". It's just that six of them seem to be doing it better than Nigel Adkins.

What the Adkin's apologists seem to think is that everyone who criticises him wants him to be sacked ,
And so they leap to point out the madness of such a sacking ,
Thereby immediately polarising the debate , quite unnecessarily.

Most of his critics just want him to improve , both on his signings front and on his team selection and tactics. In fact , to live up to his CV.

I cannot understand how a man of such pedigree can be failing so miserably in this weak division that I feel I want to shake some sense into him.

Which is why my Blackpool trip had me seriously questioning the nature of his brief from the Board.

Be in no doubt that with a couple of in-game changes we could have had 3 points.

And then he says we had 8 chances ? I'm sorry Nigel , count again.

What happens to managers when they arrive at the Lane ?

I wish Mr Adkins would sit by me in the South Stand and explain all these chances we appear to have week in week out !
As he has said many, many times it is a case of putting them in at one end and stopping them at the other - Considering he appears to think we are creating many many chances every week why hasn't Billy notched up 25 goals already this season and how come clean sheets are as rare as hens teeth !
Please explain to one who still can't see what Hammond brings to the team other than pedestrian pace and the art of giving goals away !

Always thought he did given that he seems to have some measure of control over decisions e.g. managers and players usually only people who own shares in the club can do that
