Going to Leeds permanently, apparently for £2.5m. Bit gutted about that. It's a great deal for them.

Leeds got all that money from selling Chris Wood to invest though. Forshaw will be a quality player for them for as long as he's there. Major addition to their team.

This is probably as good an example as you'll get of the sort of player we'd probably have to sell Brooks to sign. But even then, we'd have to raise our wage ceiling to about 20k p/w.

SSN saying it's £4.5m now. £2.5m did seem a bit low, with him having plenty of time left on his deal.

Still a good deal for Leeds. But was always going to be beyond us if he was leaving permanently.

Even though I started a thread on Forshaw a while back as a Coutts replacement, £2.5 million is frankly ridiculous and 4.5 just is scandalous. Yes he's a good player but not for any money. I am more amazed that this was a transfer and not alone.

Does anything about this man's career scream £4.5m at the age of 29. He's not even played 200 league games!!

2009–2012 Everton 1 (0)
2012Brentford (loan) 7 (0)
2012–2014 Brentford 82 (11)
2014–2015 Wigan Athletic 16 (1)
2015–2018 Middlesbrough 71 (2)
2018– Leeds United 0 (0)

He's 26, bang in his prime and could even get better.

£2.5m is the bare minimum he's worth. Especially when you look at some other fees for Championship players.

Not sure where I got 29 from, but we will see. I think we have got better value for money with our signings, but will watch with interest in a few weeks!

I liked him as a player for Brentford, where I watched him regularly, although I admittedly haven't seen him play more that 10 times since leaving.

That said, from what I have seen, IMHO he's a very good Champ level player who will probably improve Leeds' midfield.

However with Duffy, Holmes as well as Carruthers and even Brooks and Thomas at the club who can all play the #10 role, I'd think that area is towards the bottom of the priorities for recruitment.

This shows how well CW is doing in the market.

These proven championship players go for mega money without a blinking of an eye. Leeds have just spent our summer money / JTW money and potentially this upcoming summer money on 1 player.

This really does show how much value for money we are getting for players with Wilder.

Don’t get me wrong Forshaw is an excellent player from what I’ve seen. But teams like Leeds are just a year or 2 ahead of us.

This JTW we have had to spend our money on beefing up our squad. Maybe in the summer we could compete to bring in 1/2 players for decent money if CW wishes.

Can say i know much about him.
But one question immediately i would ask is, why have Middlesbrough sold him to a promotion rival ?
Middlesbrough still have Premiership money so it can not be because they desperately need the money.

I'd guess it's because he's obviously no longer wanted at M'boro and there are no clubs either above or below their level who want him and/or could afford him. The only other option M'boro would have would be to stockpile him i.e. continue to pay him until his contract expires. However, as his contract appears to extend until 2020, that would most probably have cost M'boro ~£2.5m (assuming he's on around £20k/week) as well as missing out on the transfer fee Leeds paid (whether it was £2.5m or £4.5m). That's a lot of money even for a club with the cushion of parachute payments but especially for one that splashed out >£40m on players over the summer.

The point i was making was why would a side going for promotion sell to a rival.
Yes £2.5-£4.5 million is alot of money but if he was that good surely they would want to keep him. After all their current midfielders are hardly storming the division.

Not wishing to nit-pick, but I'd guess it would take more than £20k pw to sign a player like Forshaw. I imagine he's already on more than that at 'Boro
