All those player sales were good business and don't you forget it!

Just behind Southampton who have a really good reputation for their acadamy.
Once we get to the top flight our acadamy will be our biggest asset if it isn't already.

Its great to see as it justifies the cost (i think that argument has long since been put to bed.), but also shows young kids and their parents that if they join our academy that they are in good hands, potentially following others like Walker, DCL and Naughton into the Premier League.

We can not only produce our own, but we can pick up those released from other clubs and work with them to produce quality.

The downside is that the majority of the players don't make it to the Premier League, Championship or League 1, but find themselves down the leagues or out of football all together.

What we need to find are produce more of is players good enough for us, but not necessarily Premier League... Which is not going to happen.

So, back to the age old discussion, we need to price them out of the Premier League reach or get the best deal for them when we sell them so we can continue to pick up players like Billy, Wright, Freeman, Fleck JoC, Moore and Basham

Great achievement for the club, long may it continue...,

UTB!

Here's the list with minutes played.

1 Manchester United 44,055

2 Tottenham 19,995

3 Manchester City 16,226

4 Southampton 14,340

5 West Ham 13,907

6 Everton 13,855

7 Arsenal 13,599

8 Sheffield United 13,564

9 Chelsea 13,445

10 Ajax 12,617

11 Feyenoord 12,589

12 Barcelona 10,858

36 more minutes of DCL on the pitch for Everton and we'd have topped Arsenal as well.

Whatever way you cut it this is good news for a Club that's been in the third tier for 6 seasons. It'll be a good stat to show new youngsters how they have more of a chance by going through the Blades academy (don't forget we are a class 2 academy) than they may by joining one from a Premiership club.

Well, I'm sure some will find a way of slagging off the club and the owner.

But sometimes you have to sit back, take stock and actually understand what is put in front of you.
And that is some achievement by everyone involved with the academy, from the cleaners, kit washer, reception staff up to the owner.
Despite our failings in the league, and the losses incurred we have maintained the academy when other clubs have done the opposite.

Now, if there are parents out there with a very talented boy, and looking to take their son to an academy then they would be very foolish to ignore us.
And I suspect we are only Going to go from strength to strength

The tone of the star report suggests to me that we did have the best coach's but they've now all gone on to better things. Does that mean the accadamy will no longer be as successful or have we replaced these coach's properly?

I couldn't have put it any better myself .

The Academy is arguably stronger now than at anytime since it's inception .

As I read it, yes the coaches come and go but it's the model that is the success.
Good scouting is most important, and after that ensuring we have enough quality coaches that we invest in.
And that doesn't necessarily mean pay, but sending them on their coaching courses and so funding enhancing their careers as coaches.

I posted on here the other day a reasoned costing for our academy to be well over a million a year and towards the £1.5m
That is a huge investment and it shows that if spent well you reap the rewards.

Nice to see although the graduates from our academy playing in the top flight all came through quite a few years ago now, bar DCL who isn't yet established.
Not been as successful recently though hopefully Brooks might change that.

Congratulations to our Academy. I remember a guest speaker,a few years ago, telling us the United Academy boys had a higher percentage of scholars making a living as a player or in the game at other levels than most other clubs. So this report confirms that its no new thing and we continue to be consistent. If I had a promising child footballer I know who I would trust to develop them in the right way

A huge credit to the vision of Kevin McCabe, John Warnock, Ron Reid and various other staff - notably John Pemberton and Nick Cox. The recent successes have to be put down to the new strategy of bringing through older players, as outlined and implemented by Travis Binnion. Recent players that have spent time in the academy include Slater, Semple, Adams, Ramsdale, Whiteman, Brooks, Reed, Long and DCL. That the academy has managed to ride the poaching of staff, proves that it's the structure and ethos that is right - not just the recruitment of staff..A far cry from the first team side of the club, until Wilder at least(crosses fingers).

A statistic we should be proud of. What makes it more incredible is we have had no control over those stats. Every club above us and Chelsea one place beneath have been able to decide how often their youngsters would appear.

Playing in two leagues beneath them we didn't enjoy that benefit.

Only negative - lots of the 'bigger' clubs will be sniffing around Shirecliffe.

The academy, the ground, next year the team. We will have eclipsed the pigs in all aspects of the game. All we need to put the icing on the cake is a couple of demolition derbies next season then we can just sit back and watch the fuckers squirm in the knowledge they are second best.

Proof indeed that we are head and shoulders above all other clubs in our region in developing young talent.
Perverse thing is, if we had managed to keep most of the players at the Lane the accademy stats wouldn't have looked as good, but we wouldn't have spent 6 years in the wilderness.
Hopefully now we are in a better position to integrate them into the first team, and in the not too distant future they will be accruing Prem League minutes in a Blades shirt.

We've always known it anyway, all the rest is propaganda .......;)

On the flipside it also highlights how negligently the first team has been managed and how poorly managers selected.

More 'natural resource' than anyone outside top flight yet outside top flight for so long.

Disgrace really.

I have thought for several years that the club has been mostly getting things right - pricing, stadium, pitch, academy, attitude to fans, etc. The only thing not right has been the one thing that matters - putting out a successful first team on the pitch. That changed last season. Fingers crossed that it was the last piece in the jigsaw puzzle rather than a happy accident.

We're not the only club that's been mismanaged at first team level. On the flipside it highlights how the other clubs don't have an academy to compare with ours. It all depends which angle you're looking at it from doesn't it?

As a side note, I'm surprised Leeds aren't on the list either. I guess the minutes does them a disservice as the likes of Delph didn't get much game time.

Agree with the other poster, the report is bitter sweet

But it is remarkable (quite incredible) that a club spending the last 6 years in the 3rd tier can have so many Academy players playing PL football.

It's something the Academy should be so proud about.

Where would we have been without it? Doesn't old warnock deserve some credit as well? Its funny but since Wilder and Knill arrived the majority of the news coming in about our club seems positive, even though some of the things have had nothing to do with them, how much value do you put on that?
