Id be very surprised if this decision was anything to do with SUFC.

We tried to do some mobile graphics about 15 years ago for the Blades and everyone down at the lane loved them and said if it was up to them we could do use the logo and such no problem but they then said it wasnt up to them in any way and they had to seek permission to use their own logo on anything digital.

At the time it was FLI who owned all the digital image rights to all the clubs except about 6 and they had to give permission for anyone to use it not the clubs themselves.

For us to use the logo they wanted £100K (Twats!) and about 40% of profits

Ive done a fair amount of work that comes close to infringing copyrights before but Im in no way a solicitor (Twat). My take on it would be you can use whatever you want except the club crest, they cant copyright the words Sheffield and United for instance.

I wouldnt think twice about a hand drawn logo though, I would argue its artists interpretation of something that is in the public domain (you could also argue that by hand drawing it you have altered at least 30% of the copyright material and so it is then original).

The painted Umbro logo mentioned earlier would be absolutely fine.

The solicitors however will just send out a letter to anyone they can and try to scare them into removing it and in 99% of cases it will work as nobody wants to take the risk.
That was my argument about the Umbro logo, but they wouldn't budge and as I wasn't making any money on those prints anyway I just gave in. I think I would have had a good case if I could have been arsed to contest it.

Yes, the charge out rate will be very high. Wages paid to the person doing the donkey work probably won’t be. That’s how consultancy works.

I reckon i will set up a better company, call it Back Three Ltd (in honour of the Wilder way) and get some internet geeks to scour social media and of course contract our very own Roy to check the opposition forums whilst he's doing his view froms.

I do prefer posts based on actual knowledge and personal experience over ill-informed, aggressive rants.

Ta.

I’m just registering Back Door Ltd and www.backdoor.com

Yeah they'll tell you your wrong all day long but Im pretty sure they wouldnt have even started court proceedings if you'd just told them to F'off

Its just a scare tactic and often works as we think they must be correct as they are solicitors and it would cost us too much time and money to even check what our rights are.

Don’t underestimate their lack of common sense. We live in a village in North Notts called Everton. Guess which football club’s lawyers tried to stop the local farm shop calling themselves...Everton Farm Shop (their branding and logo were nothing like the football one)? The Farm Shop eventually won but had to go to the time and expense of defending themselves.
And then there was the notorious attempt by the self styled prettiest skeleton from The Spice Girls who thought Peterborough United were infringing her copyright.

No no no and no 20 times over.

This club, our club, has a defined culture that's close to it's roots. THE FAMILY CLUB. As soon as this bollocks starts we lose that.

McCabe and Prince give your heads a shake. Money can't buy you love .

I've been looking for these, an answer to a question i've often asked myself and many others.

Our roots aren't located in any political or religious cause/belief, what in our roots makes us any different from our neighbours across the city?

I tried that for a while over fixtures...

Until they made it very clear via a solicitors letter they were willing to be a test case for our use of anagrams to get around their claims... They were 100% willing to take me to court for a listing of Queer Gran Spankers v. Stained Hen Rectum on the same day as their fixture :)

I didn't have the disposable income at the time to display my distain in front of a judge and turns out 2 years later I had the last laugh when they lost the ability to throw their weight around over them.

They’re subservient, brainweshed and deluded, we’re independent of thought, bloody minded but a bit moany.

I had similar, no little people like us could afford to really challenge it. Took someone the size of Paddy Power to stand up to them in the end

Soon they'll send a car like google's camera car around and send letters to anyone who has SUFC logo on gates/house/windows/cars.

What an absolute farce.

When it looked extremely likely they were going to lose the case, they did very graciously offer to sell us a licence to display them.

I think we ignored that email.

I'm getting very worried reading this thread as I have a tattoo on my leg that looks remarkably like a Blades badge and if I have to have my leg off to keep PL happy it is going to be quite difficult to get up the stairs onto the kop!

Quite possibly. I know sweet FA about this. So will need to brush up. But would a licensing fee cover clubs, their sponsors, brands, player image rights?
I don’t know but the site seems to be very well publicised including on Four Four Two so I suspect if it was breaching copyright it would have been shut down.

Have Shoreham Street Magnifique also had their pages shut down?

Possibly. I've heard nowt off him since my shirt arrived and asked for a swop as his sizes are well different to official shop.

I can see the point where individuals are taking someone else's work i.e. photographs and artwork, popping a Photoshop filter over the top and passing it off as their own work.

But last time around, we were contacted by agents acting on behalf of the Premier League reprimanding us for displaying the club's badge. Might be one to watch out for if you are selling original works.

Videos of goals were also routinely taken down regularly and without notice. I'd expect streamers to get their collars felt (particularly when the club know exactly who they are).

Different ball-game this Premier League lark.
that's incredible. surely the club owns the badge?

Do I have permission to have that tattooed across my face? I'm in a spot of bother if not

Be embarrassing for me in court then if their lawyer makes me drop my pants so the jury can see the evidence :(

It’s not capitalism, it’s corporatism. Capitalism would embrace entrepreneurs taking advantage of an opportunity.
But doesn’t capitalism inevitably lead to corporatism as those who make profit look to use their profits to take control of more of the means of production?
