And Bona Fide Club Legend.

Thankfully there are many of us that know better. Those that actually know what good looks like that is. Performance levels haven’t been anywhere near as desperate as some would make out. Trust me on that.

Ignore it. It’s white noise and is perpetuated by a noisy minority.

The lack of respect is a fucking disgrace.

Billy is a bona-fide club legend and easily one of my favourite players of all time but whilst I've not seen all comments, it's not disrespectful to suggest he's showing his age.

He's done amazingly well to play to the level he has into his mid 30s but promotion appears critical and results trump sentiment.

Agreed our Billy deserves at minimum a stand named after him. But he isn’t the Billy Sharp on the pitch that we saw ripping defences a new one anymore, not at this level anyway.

He’s got older with grace, but to suggest comparatively that he’s his best version is quite frankly deluded. Let’s be humble not daft.

Is that what I said ?

NOPE.

What I DID say is that his performance levels have not been as bad as many would have you believe. And I will stand by that 100%.

I’ll additionally say right now that he hasn’t exactly torn it up.

Not quite what you seem to have interpreted it as !

I think it was more the contradiction of “he’s not as good as he used to be” before stating “the lack of disrespect is a disgrace”.

I’m sure you weren’t asking everyone else to check their opinion, whilst making a de facto contradiction. But like I stated, I agree with what you said, and was trying to respectfully side step using the term “mild hypocrite”. Semantics.

He's not first choice anymore and his performance level ATM supports that decision. I wouldnt put it past him getting a key goal or two between now and the end of the season. Probably his final season with us too.

I think the game has changed and the traditional ‘centre forward’ is no longer, Billy has been an amazing player, and will always be a ledge, but he’s lost that half yard, there was a couple of situations today when the ball was ricocheting around the 6 yard box, I was looking for him to stick out a boot ala Bournemouth but sadly he’s no longer right there

We need the mobility and pace of Jebbo, or drive of Brewster etc

But you can’t take this off him, once a Blade….

As a person, as a player, as a goalscorer, bas a role model, as a loyal club legend after once being shit on by the club...... I can not knock him in the slightest. I agree, name a stand after him and keep in on at the club in a coaching capacity. His knowledge, experience and goalscoring prowess are invaluable to those coming through the ranks.

I don't agree with slating off or making things personal in the slightest, to attack our captain and one of the finest servants of our club is moronic.

Whilst I agree that his tempo has now dropped and that he may not be the player that he once was, I still feel that he is a valuable member of our squad as we chase down promotion. Maybe he is more suited as an impact sub these days, or a player thay you bring on to ruffle feathers and run down the clock. But we have to continue rotation and experience is invaluable as well.... Jebbison and Osula may be raw young talent, but never the less they still have loads to learn.

I dont expect Billy to start religiously in the remainder of the season.... But if he does have to start games then support him and back the fuck off. He will put a bigger shift in thay most, he will wear the badge with pride and represent every one of us in the stands. Don't get on his back and / or be moronic for fuck sake.

Trust me on that.
I agree with the sentiment of your post. Billy Sharp absolutely deserves respect and thanks for all he has done for the club.

But your comment above leaves me scratching my head. Why would anyone trust you on an opinion regarding the game? As has been pointed out before, it isn’t as if you are regarded as possessing any extraordinary level of football knowledge beyond that of the the rest of us on here. Because you’ve never posted anything to suggest you are in that category.

Said it many times, the best thing Billy can do once he retires is get as far away from United as possible and never look back.

I pray that he never takes up a position here, especially in a managerial capacity. Regardless of what he does, it'll only end one way, and that's with him being shit on, slandered and his name dragged through the mud, and that goes double for anybody born in Sheffield.

Because this fanbase is dominated by human detritus who compensate for their room-temperature IQs by having endless reserves of pettiness, vindictiveness and jealousy.

He deserves so much more.

Warnock, Wilder, Billy. Can't argue with your assessment. It's a weird thing about United. Everywhere else it seems to be the opposite.

It's the weird thing about Sheffield in general, a severe case of Tall Poppy Syndrome.

I honestly don't think I've ever heard a kind word said about anybody local who had any sort of public profile.

Billy Sharp is a club legend. Nothing will change that. Age has got him this season but he's not awful, but not a top level championship striker anymore.

It's tough being a Sheff U striker, problem is you've never been quite as kind to any other strikers of ours.

I Respect Billy

But he is in no way shape or form good enough for us it should have been Osula on ahead of him today and he shouldnt have started the recent games at all

He wasnt last season

Maybe the coaching staff are paying him a bit too much respect going on the past and not the actual prsenet player he has been this season

Again you can say he isnt good enough and still think he is a legend

You were (and to a large extent probably still are) very happy to stick many a boot in on McBurnie - the lack of respect is a fucking disgrace

He should be kept on in some capacity as he completes his coaching badges.
Player liason officer, anything, just keep him involved with the club.

I said that we'll sink back down the leagues again one day, and stay there for a while until 50 year old Billy Sharp gets the club promoted all the way back to the Prem again.

Billy deserves to leave his way and on his own terms. The club owe him that, we the fans should let our greatest scorer, one of us leave us when he has captained us back to the premiership, we all would like to see him retire here, hopefully coaching our strikers. I want a statue next to Dooley’s and the kop renamed in his honour. We may never see so many goals by a true blade again in our lifetimes. History has already been rewritten. Nobody deserves it more. Its been a pleasure.🔥😍⚔️

He is a natural finisher and in any side creating chances in the box, he will score. We create every little at the moment so can’t expect him to score.
When hecky took over, we were getting the bal down the flanks and into the box without fucking about with it. In recent months we look like Slavs team going forward just with a better defence.
Admittedly he is coming to the end of his playing career but we hardly play to his strengths

An absolutely bonafide club legend, I love the bloke…. But..…….

….he’s clearly done now at this level, I don’t want to see him pulling on the shirt of another club, I hope he announces his retirement at the end of this season, I hope we find him a role on the coaching staff whilst he learns the ropes, I hope we can celebrate his retirement alongside our promotion.

What was the story behind the removal of the Billy Sharp Scores Goals banner from the kop? I missed all that at the time.
