Until looking up something yesterday I had not realised that when we made our last FA Cup final appearance in 1936 we were in Division 2.

I looked back to our other cup final appearances and our league appearances were pretty mediocre

1899 16th out of 18
1901 14th out of 18
1902 10th out of 18
1915, bucking the trend a bit, 6th out of 18
1925 back on trend 14th out of 22

It looks like our recent cup history is more a return to our roots and a not a modern development

rod currie had a seniors ticket for it.
Still to be seen at Shirecliffe and The Lane.

You mean that Rod was a senior way back then?

He trained the white horse in crowd control for the 1923 Cup Final. Came up with the sugar lump pacifyer.
Actually he organised the Charrabang for the team to get to the final at Crystal Palace in 1902 as a 40 year old.
Amazing guy is rodcurrie.

I recall from my stint on BM. I recall a decent chap as well as knowledgeable about the Blades...he should pop over here Sean, think he'd add to what's an already decent Blades site

I wonder if there's actually anybody still alive who saw us win the cup in 1925.
The Queen Mother did but she died in 2002 and possibly the last person alive that was at the match.

Her husband shaking hands with Blades players before the kick off

Our players from L to R;Tunstall, Mercer, Boyle, Sutcliffe, King, Cook, Milton, Green, Johnson and Pantling. Gillespie must be hidden behind Prince of Wales

Agree totally. Thing is it's taken him decades to learn how to post on BM. Since then dial up has somewhat died off but roddres dosen't have broadband, nor a mobile phone, running water or any other mains services.
Cats whisker and the shipping forecast mate.
That's his life.

Forgot to add that the old man on the far right is Charles Clegg who was at the time the FA president. He was also President and Chairman of both Sheffield clubs. He played for England in the first ever International football match in 1872 against Scotland

Great photo Silent, don't think I've ever seen that one before. Before seeing you're addendum was going to say is that Clegg on the right.

They should display that photo somewhere inside Bramall Lane as an inspiration and hope that one day we can reach the FA Cup final again.

I meant Duke of York
Coincidentally the Kings Speech was on TV last night at about the time you posted the picture, and the documentary afterwards said that it was in1925 that the Duke of York started speech therapy with Lionel Logue so that Cup Final might have been one of his first public engagements, or even the cause of him seeking help.
