We weren't as prolific as we have been tonight but did enough and again picked up another enormous 3 points which in my opinion has now firmly put us down as in the play-off hunting pack. We started bright and could have had at least one early on and it was a cracking Baxter goal to win the game but after that we didn't really do enough to put it to bed as we have been doing in the last few weeks and Carlisle could have pegged us back and we would have dropped 2 points and to be fair they had a few chances to do so especially in the second half and might be going home feeling a little hard done by.

Not disappointed really. Been a busy period for us and Charlton is only 72 hours ago so overall very happy that we keep picking up the points in quick succession and all things said and done I don't think we were poor by any standards I think maybe we've just been spoilt with some cracking football of late and on paper we expected more of the same when to be fair 2 months ago we would have been more than happy with this performance and result.

Now time to take advantage of a couple of extra days relax before entering the "make or break" stage of the season. No fixtures will be easy from now in but we have shown we can beat good teams on our day in fact we thrive from the challenge however we will need to step it back up a gear again.

Anyhow well done United on our new record. Well done on picking up another huge 3 points and enjoy the rest before going on the hunt for another 3 next week. UTB!

Felt for the lads tonight, they ran out of steam. First time I've seen us lose shape since the Crew game. Well done for winning with a Semi hangover, it shows character.

A few looked knackered second half, I'd love to see the stats on the mileage the likes of Flynny have covered on the pitch in the last month or so.

Another game, another clean sheet, another three points.... Lets keep it going.

#believe - keep winning

I believe mate hard not to at the minute :D The two comments above pretty much nailed it as well, a good few were understandably shattered. Expected clough to make a few changes again tonight but that said I am glad he didn't, we weren't poor as I said just not as sharp and as said above tired.

Yeah they did look tired tonight, at least we got the 3 points as there is not much to talk about in that game.

I don't know I think we started well enough and deserved the lead, had we got another in the first half I think we would have been more happy with the drop in tempo in the second. While we were only 1 goal in front Carlisle obviously still fancied their chances of nicking something and we didn't always make it easy for ourselves. Made slight hard work of it but never the less another win, another 3 points and another clean sheet.

We had plenty of opportunities to put the game to bed by half time and their keeper did well. Second half, as already mentioned we simply ran out of steam. I,ll take the 3points and the boys can now have a well deserved rest for a couple of days.

Other than the ref?! Jesus, I've seen some crap displays at The Lane but that has to be the most clueless display I've witnessed.

Well done to the Blades tonight though, some looked dead on their feet in the second half but did well to keep on top. Well worth the win tonight.

How bizarre was the ref? Some very dubious decisions imho, fortunately not h ing game changing

I'm not sure which one of the top three was the best:

  • Watching a Carlisle man blast the ball to clear, which then bounced off him and out of play... Only to give a Carlisle throw in and shortly after change his mind. All the while, neither linesman had a clue what was going on.
  • Watching a Carlisle man play the ball off another Carlisle man and out of play, then give them a corner. All the while, neither linesman had a clue what was going on.
  • Watching the ball go out of play in front of the kop, but forgetting that it would be handy to notice who touched it last, so stand for a while and then just guess. All the while.... you know the rest :)

oh yes the Carlisle player kicking the ball off the ref and the ref nearly giving them a throwing just the most foolish decision I've ever seen. Still nothing really positive to talk about that game I won't likely remember anything from it apart from that bizarre decision.

Funnily enough Carl Boyeson's "rate the ref" stats point out his lack of fitness and positional skills. Other comments go on about his inability to spot the most obvious of decisions. Can't remember much about his myself, don't recall seeing him ref us this season. He wasn't too clever though must be said. If you had a marking section to rate the referee in the player ratings bit on here I would have given him a 3 and that is generous.

Tis true that it was a strange performance by the officials but I did initially welcome him not giving soft (or any) fouls for either side. What followed was a bit strange. As for the Blades, I thought we were what we have been recently for most of the first half. Credit to Carlisle, they did finish the half strongly and I thought that it would be good thing as I thought that it would chance for Clough and his management team to sort us out and catch Carlisle out. As it panned out, it did appear that we were on a bit of a come down and we did look tired. As a result I thought that we rushed all forward movements and on this occasion we moved Murphy up top too soon. Still very happy as we held on and the character of the squad seems better than it has been for many years.

UTB and goodnight.

Definitely the second was the best. If only to see Morgs boot the drinks halfway to the kop!

I'm surprised that Clough played so many of the team from Sunday, but it gave them a good chance to stretch their legs. I'd say this is as big a result as Sunday in terms of pulling the energy out from within to get the 3 points. It's games like these which build fitness. A few days rest and then a tough game against Preston. Big game yet again!
